One of the members of the community, known as STRIKER, playing with 3sqn, was in an CV-22 that was shot down over Afganistan the other day.

Last news from the VTB forums is that he is currently fighting for his life.

Update:

Chris made it through surgery and is in recovery and is going to get sent to germany from there he is going to get sent home on leave

Edit: The military has listed the cause of the crash as unknown, so the title I gave the thread could be wrong.

Holy crap! I flew over the crash site last night, just minutes after it happened. It was still on fire. We had talked to that element on the radio earlier in the evening. We were parked in the FARP next to the other two Ospreys while we were waiting for gas as the medevac birds were bringing in the injured. Since our bird was empty, we offered to help, but there was no need, so we continued on our way.

The weather was absolutely atrocious in that area last night when they were flying. Not raining or anything, but zero illumination (no moon) and overcast, so it was very, very dark. There was also significant haze, dropping the visibility even lower. The area of the crash was also very flat and uninhabited, making altitude difficult to estimate.

Very sobering. I wish Striker all the best and hope for his speedy recovery. RIP to those who did not survive (3 service members and 1 civilian contractor).

My thoughts are with Striker.

There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

My prayers and thoughts goes to Striker. Speedy recovery.

Best wishes for Striker and so sorry for the loses of those families with loved ones that didn't make it. Thank you to those people that make these sacrifices to help protect their brothers and sisters.
