again with that stupid argument. people either like flght sims or they don't. making a dumbed down version of it isn't going to populate the dcs servers.

This is true to an extent but you're forgetting the crowd that like flight sims but are too intimidated by hardcore sims such as DCS. They know about DCS from reviews which all state the learning curve being near vertical. From a noob's pov that'll intimidate me. So if they hear of something easier, they might think let's test the waters with this dumbed down version. Then once they master that they'll naturally pick up the difficulty level then onto the holy grail.

2) My girlfriends 8 year old son can jump in and fly with me online on easy setting and I can fly with all the assists off.

Yeah that's a big plus we're all looking for.

dcs has a game mode which makes the game a lot easier than the average sim, so i don't buy it for one minute.

but even if that was true. how many are in this crowd for it to be such a good thing and have a tangible impact on server population, that we should praise microsoft for the free advertisement?

microsoft just turned the most enduring sim in history into aerial disneyland. this isn't a situation that can be brushed off with delusional wishful-thinking. crap like "flight" should be despised and laughed at. there is no mutually beneficial relationship here.

So would you buy a complete game knowing that you'll only play 10% of that game or would you buy a complete game to play the full game?

Game mode on a sim of this complexity is no sweetener to someone that's intimidated by what DCS has to offer.

anyone who professes their support for ed needs to stop pretending that the saturation of the sim market with the likes of "flight" is going to be a good thing for ed. that's my main point.

if it wasn't for military sponsorship, instead of dcs:flying legends, we'd probably be having our own dcs: flight. just keep thinking that coexistence is possible, right up until the extinction of the realistic sim. look at what 777 software stoops to in order to compete in the market. aiming sights and colored scarf dlcs. sigh.. that wasn't necessary just a fear years ago.

i remember when everyone used the same "everyone wins" argument on the tom clancy game forums right before everything became casualized/consolized. ghost recon turned arcade? it's ok, we still have rainbow six. rainbow six converted into a silly mess? it's okay, we still have splinter cell. and so on...

ridicule and criticize it like a true sim enthusiast should while the last bastion still stands. microsoft flight is abject garbage, and i wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. that design philosophy of low cost, low quality, high bottom line will be the death of sims and pc gaming in general.

you think they make easy games for the good of the casual gamer? they invented that demography so they can sell low quality, low production cost, highly advertised games to them. so you go ahead and do the sweet talking "everyone's a winner" platitude, i'm done with that nonsense.

and people who are intimidated by a game/sim...i can't begin to describe how pathetic that is. why do you play sims/games if you don't want to be challenged?

I've never seen soo many people bitch about a free game in my life.

They dropped "simulator" from Flight for a reason. Just because it isn't what you want doesn't make it "abject garbage". When was it EVER stated by Microsoft that Flight was to be the replacement for MSFS?

As far as 777 goes. They make DLC to continue to fund development, you don't have to buy the DLC to play or compete in that game at all. It's eye candy and variety, big deal. They are trying to keep it interesting and keep their product going. Would you rather have it like the 90's where all these "sims" are broke junk garbage with no update to fix it?

Other than DCS what other "realistic" sim have you played? Maybe broke old F4 but thats about it. As far as going extinct, the market was never huge in the first place. In my book ED has pushed the envelope and created its own market with DCS series...there is literally nothing to compare it to.

I don't know what planet you live on, but they were leading people on for months. Claiming the simulator side would be unaffected by the attempt to please the kids, and dropping hints about SDKs... absolutely the most disappointing attempt at restarting a franchise I've ever seen.

We have as much right to dislike and complain about it as you do to bitch about people voicing their opinion. If people don't complain, Microsoft learns no lesson. There's no such thing as a successful flight game... stick to flight simulation if you're going to try it at all.

Some people don't want to be challenged, they want to be entertained.

People should buy/fly FSX, before jumping into DCS. Spending time in a civil environment learning to fly, land, navigate, night, IFR,..., before trying the same in DCS, then go to weapons&stuff.

I agree completely, having not been smart enough to do that myself. DCS products are a lot to grasp when you don't know how to fly either.:D

awesome work slamram. so does this mean an end to FC2?

That's true. And entertainment brings more money than challenge. But, to us challenge IS entertainment.

That's why, after almost 2 years of owning it, I've decided to really see what I can learn in FSX.

Not totally abandoning the DCS duo though. I loves them too much.

To stay on topic, I'll see how much I enjoy the challenges in Flight. It was fun playing with the 360 pad, but I'm not sure I can enjoy using my HOTAS without TrackIR.

no they shouldn't. why put money into ed's competitor?

if you can fly fsx, you can fly dcs and vice versa. there's no need to buy 2 sims when they do the same thing. dcs just has additional things related to military.

you can still learn to fly in dcs.

Graphics are not bad and with good framerate but the reason I played for 5 mins were the menus.

Nice sound I hope DCS Mustang has an engine that can support that type of sound FX. BTW those are not ingame sound FX.
