Hello. What I meant was X-Plane doesn't come with this scenery by default,You can import/create it with The Open Street Map tool,or you can download scenery that others have made using this tool.

Beta 10.10-6 is available with a new flashlight feature.......pretty cool

the landing and taxing lights are stunning in x plane 10, i was hoping ed would follow suite with this effect, from a distance we get large halo. really like the flashlight idea and it comes in red or white.

another feature needed in dcs world.

X-Plane has always been a favourite of mine. It captured that elusive 'feel' of flight from the very first X-Plane I bought (version 3). Had a bit of a hiatus then have updated consistently since ver. 8.

I've always loved the 'world' playground of x-plane as it's a nice balance between real world terrain, good visuals and playability. DCS terrain is awesome too, but not quite as expansive a geography ;o).

Now, if ONLY I could get a Tornado, with DCS level systems fidelity in X-Planes world that's been *activated* as a combat arena (e.g. TacPack for X-Plane) ... I'd be a very happy chappy. We're getting a Tornado in 10, which I hope has a high level of fidelity (

).

For the time being I'm cool flying x-aviations creations. The MU-2 is sweet (for 9 ... I hope it's patched to 10).

For those of you who have the talent, here's the x-plane developer link http://developer.x-plane.com/ ... and for scenery, theres WED.

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!

 Me too, but you DO know what you're asking, right?

I think this here is the exact thing almost ALL combatsim devs would like to create, ED included. :book: :joystick: :D

Phantom; Thanks, yes I understand. But you are mostly on-top of all things X-Plane, so I thought you would be the one to ask. Others have helped very well, though, with the pointer to OSM2xp. Very cool tool.

I really don't see the benefit of the flashlight option, though, aside from a nice little fun feature. Even less so in DCS. :P

as i develop my own scenery,..i switched my tactics to operate in original OSM Data. i guess it s the best possibility, to create,..accurate scenery data, without doing things twice,..my experiments with adding trees and first buildings in smaller villages are outstanding..

the openstreemap activ profile is for free, you can edit data, add data, add routes..see sea traffic plugin by marginal!) yes, i guess..if some more people could step into this project to provide more detailed data,..we all can help making xplane, and i guess other sims in the future, too,..look more realistic with accurate objects, roads and forests placed on real data.

so come in an add the details you want to see wothin next OSM imports!)

cheers

I DLed the demo a while back and never tried it ( I have used X-Plane 9). After looking at those pics I went to get the demo and what a pleasant surprise...

I read the first post (dated back in 2010) and was really disappointed. It talked a lot about grass, but made no mention of trees :( But, looks like a lot of work has happened since then and the screen shots do look amazing. I might have to have a look at this product.

I really couldn't get into the demo and went back to fsx pretty quickly, those shots look amazing though, might have to give it another go...

Out of the box on looks alone, X-Plane wins by a mile. When you start to factor in other things such as flight model ... its also above and beyond. But sometimes I guess its just what we get used to.

Hey Phantom, is that X-Aviation's DC3? (And how does she fly?).

plug in driven combat scenarios are under development by community members. as far as i knew it is possible yet. community projects are growing quickly and there are many great plugins available, you can try them in the demo too.

OK, I broke down and got the North American regional package (I figured $30 is worth a look). After a quick spin around a few places I like, I have to say it looks pretty good.

I am somewhat concerned about the fact that the 'Langoliers' seem to have visited Washington National airport and eaten the buildings. An aurora over Las Vegas seemed a bit odd as well. ;)

EDIT: One thing I have decided; if I could not run it with all of the graphics cranked up, I would probably not use it.

it will get into better performance when updated to 64bit, planned for next after 10.10 release.

we will see,..but as far as i see, you do not need to crank all up to get nice visuals,..just check the options!)

No I don't think so, but there used to be officially endorsed Piper models downloadable for X-plane. I am not sure if they still hold up for the current version of X-plane though.

Patent Troll Sues X-Plane

"X-plane is a cross-platform flight simulator app, notably the only serious one that supports Mac OSX and Linux. It was the first to include NASA data in their terrain modelling. It's now under threat by an NPE (Non-Practicing Entity) called Uniloc. Uniloc is suing for things X-Plane has done for decades. X-plane cannot afford to defend this suit, so if somebody doesn't step up and defend them then we lose X-plane forever. Quoting: 'I have spoken to a lawyer about this, and I am told that it will cost me about $1,500,000 (one and a half million dollars) to defend this suit. He also told me that it should take about two to three years to defend. This is more money than I have made selling Android Apps in the first place.'"

I quite often fly the BK117 ... love it :)

Re PA aircraft in X-Plane, there's a great PA34 available from Carenado, available as an addon aircraft. It's possbily my favourite aircraft as I often fly the virtual commuter route between YTWB (Toowoomba) and YBBN (Brisbane Intl) vbg! Occassionaly also fly the YARM (Armidale) to YSTW (Tamworth) route as well ... I believe that Tamworth was the location (back in the 80's and 90's perhaps) from where British Airways used to conduct some of their pilot training for wide body jets.

Another great addon from Carendao for x-plane is the C208 Grand Caravan (Cessna) ... beautiful aircarft and part of their HD series.

I'm hoping that Carenado port their brilliant C90B KingAir (which I fly in P3D) across to X-Plane ... only because I still prefer the 'feel' of X-Plane 10 compared to P3D.

If I may continue the aircarft and handling comparisons across sims (I know ... off topic), I have Heinz' payware P51D for X-Plane and I must say that if I were to limit my perspective to the modelling of the P51 ... the DCS Mustang is by far the superior in every respect.

i actually only fly the bk117

i really enjoy it,..it is same problem like with other sims,..you can have high fidelity in xplane if you have the right company or team realising it,..see the as350 comin in from Dreamfoil creations..it s outstanding project..using nemeth designs 3d modell adding nearly 100%accuracy on flight model, sound engine, and cockpit response..i am really looking forward to this bird..offering a interactiv tv cam system..and so many other variants..

dcs is great..but another kind of simulation for me..

cheers and many happy landings in your sim!)

can I ask those of you who have X-plane 10:

what is the difference between x-plane 10 30 buck version (north american) and 70 buck version -10 + 40 degree version? one is only NA? all aircrafts in NA or just global?
