How long does a 6gb or, whatever the final game size will be, take to download?

I agree that inflation has gone up, but I am pretty sure designing a sim back in 95 took a great amount of resources as well. They were all forging the genre as they were making games. Computers were much much more expensive so designing on super computers cost a lot more then, than it does now to grab a 8 core mac off the shelf at the local apple store. ED made A10 in about a year I guess? How long did it take to make a new game in 95?

D2D does not have to go out of business. Some evil hacker just has to not like them enough to infect and destroy their mainframe.

Also, if my optical copy does get damaged, I still have a serial and some other options in getting a new copy of the game.

Not sure what the deal is with getting an actual game anymore. I do not like steam at all. I do not like D2D. I am not even sure if its legal to burn a disc with my stuff from steam or D2D......

With STEAM you can backup your game files via the backup utility within STEAM.. which I have done with all my steam games so I don't have to download them again..

I'm sure you can backup anything you want legalily... within reason

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I want a DVD version for sure. I just like having a box on my desk.

Snap, call me old fashioned but if i buy something i want said something inhand, i have downloaded a few FSX jets directly and had no problems but given the choice i will always opt for a boxed version.

No what i mean is if you physically have a disk if you blow your computer up and fry half its guts as your moving mud. All one must do is to reload the disk on the wife's comp at 0300 and move some more dirt. Its a owner ship thing if you don't have some thing in your possession it really does not exist. :pilotfly:

I'm sure the whole community here has their own opinion's on which they'd prefer, be it a boxed version or D2D version.

I'm really hoping their releasing a boxed version, didn't purchase R.U.S.E for that reason, my connection is really slow. Besides a download version I feel like I'm missing something, guess I'm old school:noexpression:

No you're not old school. You just have a different opinion than others. And some here agree that they'd like a copy in their hands too.;)

Not sure how steam works, but if your computer gets wasted, you will need to get the game back on your system somehow. Now, if you back up to a separate drive, you will obviously just need to reinstall.

You just download it again off Steam.

Not only is my internet not extremely fast but my pc is in the same room I sleep in, so leaving it on to download stuff overnight isn't really an option. Hopefully they release a boxed version and release it fast!!

I'd buy online, i am not fan of plastic box which later is covered by dust :P

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

I would buy the online version in order to have it ASAP, however I would rather wait to get a hard copy provided this one came with a full printed manual as the simmulators in the past.
There might be a printed manual with the game, but It won't come cheap.

Apparently it's much more expensive to print manuals now than it was 10-15 years ago

With a game such as DCS where reading the manual is nearly a must there should be a full paper manual included with the game at standard price.

Minimizing the game to find something in the manual, then back to the game to try and do it.. then back again because you forgot... not very smooth learning process.

thinking about games which came with big printed manuals: i paid more for m1 tank platoon back in 1990 and falcon4 in 1998, than i paid for blackshark in early 2009.

if cutting out cost of printed manual (+cost of shipping the heavy thing) is part of what keeps a game/sim cheap and the developers in business...i'm all for it.

if you need a paper version...print it. it's there on your disk !

or put it up on a laptop whilst playing on games pc

Having a 400page printed manual would probably up the cost another $50, especially if its a color copy. If you want to pay for that go ahead, but a lot of people would rather read the online version over forking out extra money.

Indeed. If ED's business plan for WH is anything like BS, they might consider selling a printed manual version separately.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

If they sold a bundled retail copy that included the full printed manual for $60 or something I'd probably buy that. Otherwise I plan on buying it online from them directly or on Steam.
