Ohhh interesting. An ACRE equivalent for DCS A-10C?

Not exactly. ACRE adds content to ArmA by putting radios into the game (where there were no radios before, other than radio triggers). Since DCS already has clickable radios, TARS more or less "Teamspeak enables" those radios.

The projects are so close I wouldn't be surprised to learn it was the same team doing both. If not I hope they talk, there's so much they can learn from each other.

We do, actually. The ArmA community is small enough that most people know each other. And the ACRE people were very helpful in describing the pitfalls of the old sound system that TS3 used, which I think I acknowledged in my credits. Of course it is a moot point now since their (TS3's) use of FMOD is no longer a reality. While the projects may be superficially similar, there is a lot going on under the hood that isn't. ArmA 2 is a very different animal from DCS which is obvious on its face but becomes more obvious when you try to mod either of the games. While the former is very, very easy to add content to and a non-programmer can do it, DCS has the edge when it comes to exporting raw data.

So, the main issue is the moddability of both of the games and how you go about doing that. When you remove that from the equation you might as well say the walkie talkie mod for TS3 is of the same ilk. Actually, it's a pretty cool mod for what it does.

I assume it would be compriable with TS3 rc2 as well?

Yes, RC2 is what I am currently building against.

Edit: Small update, I ran a feasibility study on the current DCS public build and it appears that terrain-based radio effects are still on the table based on what can be exported from DCS currently. That doesn't mean you will see this feature in the next release (next release is intended to bring current functionality to TS3 RC2) but that it will continue to be worked on.

What's with TARS and 1.1.0.9.? We had to turn off the plugin before our clan sortie last night... We just couldn't hear each other... Does anyone have the same problem, or a solution? THX!

Rgr, beta36. Upgrading TS only once TARS is featuring the upgrade.

I wonder how a (maybe) FC3 would get integrated into the DCS radio environment... (meaning if ED have something in mind).

May be stupid question but did you make sure TARs was installed after updating to 0.9?

Not too stupid... Maybe the patch touched some TARS relevant files/settings!?

The new sound system is integrated and the code is all DCS 1.1.0.9 and TS3 RC2 compatible as of last night. Some internal testing must be done and if there are no major bugs I will release a new beta (TARS 1.0.1 Beta 1) that is RC2 compatible for broader testing.

The RC2-combatible version of TARS is out! Please read about the update on the TARS website. The purpose of this release is to test the new sound system against a larger player count and allow me to gather audio-related suggestions and bug reports. Have fun!
