Grimes Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Just having a look through files for beta3. Under english speech files for the player you have..... A-10 Ka-50 Which are expected... but there are a few more.... Ah-1 Ah-64 F-16 Fa-18 Mi-8 Mi-28 Mmmm, the player can't control any of those aircraft. Yet :music_whistling: There are also weapons that the player says that you can't use with either Ka-50 or A-10c. JSOW, HARMs, and Hellfires are just a few. Anyways. I guess this means the next product might be "DCS: Hornet Hip Havoc Apache Cobra Falcon" or, "DCS: HHHACF" :smartass: The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Moa Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) Speculating just gets people in a froth. ED themselves have stated they have not yet decided what will come after Warthog. I think they are upgrading lots of stuff, so it might be unwise to take the presence or absense of various files as a 'divine sign'. There are/were upgraded Su-25 cockpit files for example, but I think that is someone experimenting during development rather than a decided direction. Similarly, that genius 4x4 Easter Egg doesn't mean that DCS:UAZ is going to be the next module. Edited November 17, 2010 by Moa Typo: 'stuff' has two 'f's.
Dimebag1 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 Actually, if you look on the dcs homepage the banner at the top has an f/a-18 hornet, an ah-64 apach, an m1a1 abrams tank and some kind of frigate, my guess is we might be in for a mixed bag of goodies. Of course I am joking, I can't imagine a frigate sim, maybe a tank sim but that's not ED's style yet. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Lixma 06 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 The Mi-8 pilots lurking in the TestTextures folder are suspiciously well detailed.....
Grimes Posted November 17, 2010 Author Posted November 17, 2010 Oh dear... Just curious as to how the english speech file point you to that conclusion? Its under "player." File organization combined with the fact that all other entities have their own voices, ATC, JTAC, Tankers, AWACs, land units, Germans, Russians, Wingmen 2, 3, and 4. Honestly its more of a, "hey while we have you in the recording studio why don't we record a few extra lines for the future." Its just something simple I noticed. Geskes Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I think this a a well thought-out deception. They are trying to put us on the wrong track. Everybody knows the next module WILL be DCS: UAZ. Cant wait! In/deflatable tyres, 4WD AND rear or forward drive mode, fully analog working 6DOF driver cabin, fully modelled clutch system and, there is a hybrid version included as a bonus which you can charge from ground crew units on airfield!. I mean forget about A10, this is what you really want! I7920/12GBDDR3/ASUS P6T DELUXE V2/MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G /WIN 10 Ultimate/TM HOTAS WARTHOG
DiabloSP Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 DCS: MBT would be a nice addition. I know it won't happen because of engine limitations, but it would bring many good things to the table, if all the systems were made to be integrated with A-10 and Ka-50. For starters, tanks are not -that- classified. Info about them is easier to come by. Their systems are also a lot easier to model than jets or helicopters. A bundle with M1 and T80 would be very easy to model (ok, not that easy, but I bet it's easier than modeling an F-18). Armor and ballistic models would be developed, enhancing realism in the two previous DCS models. Ground AI would need to be reworked, enhancing realism in the two previous DCS models. I think you get the picture. Everything that is lacking now in the DCS series, is exactly what needs to be done in a ground sim. It would compliment the two present models perfectly. A true combined arms sim, with A-10s supporting players in tanks. Apart from that, there is no competitor on this kind of sim. SB is ages old, and it's the only one. From there on, the sky is the limit.
Boberro Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I heard currently you can drive Strela :D Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Geskes Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 It would be sooo boring in a tank. You sit there, waiting and waiting until BOOM, you get blown up by a maverick. You never saw anything but you sure are dead. It sounds appealing but the reality is you need a lot of players to make it interesting and with lots of players it will become a mess. You'll inevitably end up with something like arma which is too arcadish. A flight operation might take 1 or 2 hours, ground operations take much much longer if you want realism. Who is going to spend 2 hours driving somewhere only to get pounded by the avenger cannon, a vikhr missile, or any of the other tank busting weapons the pilots would be able to use? So then you can say, well we can have player sam sites. That would be totally boring too. Sitting there staring at the same screen for an hour, then eat a HARM. You see, two A-10 pilots would be able to take out a whole company of player controlled tanks without a sweat. The only use I see for it in multiplayer is the joy you get from actually killing human tanks instead of AI. The players in ground vehicles would be pure cannon fodder for anyone lucky enough to be in a airplane slot on the server. GGTharos Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 No, I'm having YOUR stuff, that I'll take from YOUR base ... with my tank. I find it amusing that people think these things - and SAMs - are just sitting ducks. Mobile warfare employed properly will see your mavericks and LGBs miss, and will render JDAMs less useful. A SAM operator isn't going to be sitting around with his radar blasting away at you, waiting to eat a HARM. He'll be watching his datalink that is fed from an EWR or a larger SAM, wait until you are FIRMLY inside the NEZ, and THEN he'll push the 'automatically turn on radar and cue and keep shooting this target 'till it's dead' button.
