Succellus Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Well, so far i m very happe with my pig. Althought i have some obs. that are probably dhu! First thing its the fact the stick is projected to be really fixed, if not it tend to slide a little. This mean its uncomfortable in my almost desktop setting, and i am really happy only with him beetween the legs making pressure on the plate again the chair cushion. (try to picture that ;) ) Other thing is that mine came with some tension almost Cougar like. It may be a grease issue like other got...so i should look into it. The second is that the friction wheel of the throttle (the real one not the mock up) gos from suck to blow...it does nothing and i am not the only one to have observed this Apart from those tiny things i find the T.A.R.G.E.T is a real hit and miss, some part of it like presentation can be vastly improved. The greater shame thought is the fact TM has no Rudder system and TARGET won t integrate any system so in some games its a PITA. Apart from that i m still programing it and learning to use, and its great, quite superior to my modded cougar. I was surprised how bad was my cougar stick (floppy center probably by overuse and material wear) after i handled it to a friend and showing some stuff to it. WynnTTr Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Very happy with mine. Nice just having all the correct buttons/switches/hats where they should be. Really nice and easy to obey the instructor as he tells you "china hat forward" without having to try and remember where I mapped the china hat function. I'd buy this again in a heart beat.
RAF74_Raptor Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I have to say of all the Hotas Systems I have bought it is one of the smoothest and accurate systems I have ever owned. I came I saw I got blown up by a SA-8:pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.firstfighterwing.com/forums/content.php
sobek Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Even though my throttle bricked on 5th of february, i must still say that i am most satisfied with this product. Thrustmaster support worked like a charm and the throttle is now on it's way back to me. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Mud Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Overall I'm very pleased with it, it's quite a difference compared to my old gameport Thrustmaster Top Gun :) Negatives: - Wobble/play on the right throttle - Coolie hat left is jittery in DCS A-10C. Pressing short left often results in the left MFCD jumping two, and setting the MFCD as SOI is near impossible. andysim Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 well i got mine on order from my usual helpfull and reliable online flightstore so heres hoping for the best. Still im not sure if its better to unplug it before and after shutdown though, Seems lots of ppl have had issues with the throttle dying. :pilotfly:
Succellus Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Well so far i m unplugged it when not using (only the throttle). I have forgotten it plugged a couple of time with no issue. Mine also had a diference from most report my led never stayed light up. They only did it the first time i plugged it while windowswas seeking drivers and then when i upgraded the firmware it blinked couple of time, then always off, even when i plug it and unplug it it doesn t even blink. vCUJOv Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I just got Warthog Hotas. I don't know why people are saying that this is the perfect stick. I think thrustmaster should be selecting better words when advertising their products. "This stick has no centre play" Please, micro managing input is impossible with this thing. I'm very very pissed at them. Maybe I'm spoiled because I was using Cougar with Nxt mod.
Milli Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Hello everyone. I've had my TM Warthog for about a couple of weeks now. No problems so far. I just wanted to know what the term "brick" or "bricking" means? I've seen it mentioned in a few threads now. Could someone please explain it? Also, I have been leaving my throttle and stick plugged in when I power my computer off and on. Is this not advised? I have had no problems so far. Should I unplug the usb connections before turning my computer off and on? Would this not cause issues with windows (win7 64bit here) detecting "new" hardware etc each time I plug the devices in? Any advise would be appreciated. Regards, Chris
Corrigan Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 It's a general hardware term. Something is bricked when it becomes completely non-functional, like a brick. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5

Sierra99 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 what he said :) Yeah... OK. A couple of you have offered the definition of "Bricking" which is absolutly useless. Either you' being smart azzes or just dont know. How about actually explaining why people are using the term when discussing the throttle. Perhaps THAT information will prevent someone from having to return a throttle to TM when it can be prevented. Executioner Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) Yeah... Gadgets Back when the TM:WH was released - several customers had issues with the throttle portion when powering on/off their computers. Several attempts were made to try and tie this down to particular motherboards or chipsets or issues with the early firmware in the throttle. Some people had their throttles fail at this point (possibly due to the device losing it's firmware) - others had them fail when a newer firmware was released and they attempted to update to this firmware. "Bricking" merely refers to the process by which an item fails to complete it's firmware update correctly (in this case, the Warthog throttle) and then will no longer perform it's original functions. New Warthogs should already come with the newest firmware and thus should no longer exhibit either the power on/off "bricking" (again - the loss of throttle function due to something untoward happening to the firmware at this point) or the update mechanism one. Any better ? :) Martin... Edited June 26, 2012 by Executioner missed a word out!
159th_Viper Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 (edited) ....How about actually explaining why people are using the term when discussing the throttle. Perhaps THAT information will prevent someone from having to return a throttle to TM when it can be prevented..... The Firmware/Circuitry inside the Throttle dies, effectively rendering the Throttle Unit useless. The exact cause of the problem is unknown (to me). Be that as it may, the effect is that you get as much use out of the Throttle Unit as you would a brick, hence the term 'bricking/bricked'. As for prevention, you cannot. Defective units have to be returned to Thrustmaster for a replacement throttle - no way around it. In any event, it seems to have been a problem that only affected a specific production batch as I have not heard of other units bricking lately and after the firmware update. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 26, 2012 ED Team Posted June 26, 2012 I am to old to be a "smart azzes" lol good old wiki lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick_(electronics) When used in reference to consumer electronics, a "brick" describes an electronic device such as a smart phone, game console, router, or tablet computer that owing to a serious misconfiguration, corrupted firmware or a hardware problem, can no longer function. The term derives from the vaguely cuboid shape of many electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) and the suggestion that non-functional devices are only fit for use as traditional ceramic bricks commonly used in masonry. The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my MP3 player when I tried to modify its firmware."[1] In one common sense of the term, "bricking" suggests that the damage, often a misconfiguration of essential on-board software, is so serious as to have rendered the device permanently unusable. However, another use of the term "bricked" is understood to describe a situation where a device is unable to function even when the device does have potential to be recovered later to a working state. In this sense, the damage may be reversible; it is only during the period that it's unable to function that the device is deemed "bricked". Forum rules - DCS Crashing?
