TARS is amazing!!! Great job!!! Do you hear ATC chat of another player on same freq?

It's not that advanced I'm affraid...

(one can barely communicate with ATC in MP, what to say about the others :) )

Please do NOT rush this product :)

I want the finished product as much as the next guy ...BUT if there is a showstopper in there (ex: like the ii and II thing) i would be a bit disappointed and i think that the boss behind dcs A-10 would rush for his axe ;)

I'll shed some light on your lack of understanding then: You are not getting it today/tomorrow/after the weekend ;)

Regardless of how it is phrased, it means it isn't ready for public consumption yet, period. The rest is fluff and any perceived or real significance may or may not be related to some internal target that you are not and will not be privy to or some desired publicly stated or speculated target that is NOT a promise.

All I'm saying is I can't understand why one person will say "It'll be ready when it's ready", when another says "It won't be ready in time". The difference being, one statement suggests there is a somewhat narrowed target date, while the other one says there isn't. That seems significant to me.

That's like saying "I'm not sure when the bus will arrive...because it's too close." Just saying.

Given the topic of this discussion and the fact that TARS has come up, let me share an anecdote: When I had the idea for TARS I thought to myself that it would be ready--in its current form--by the first week of December. Then my 10 years of software development experience (both as a programmer and someone who manages programmers) threw up a warning flag in my head, and I decided to give you guys the "Q1 2011" estimate for the first beta, because with these sorts of things, you know it's going to take a lot longer than everyone (including you) thinks.

The psychology is interesting but largely irrelevant--the bottom line is this, even comparatively small projects are temptingly easy to underestimate when it comes to time. You really can't hold it against many developers if they're making good faith attempts to release on time and have sound project management. This stuff is very, very complicated. It's pretty obvious that ED is putting a lot of work into this. Let's all be patient.

Can someone shed some light on what TARS does? I know its a plugin for TS but thats it. How is it different than just running TS in the background?

I could be wrong but basicly;

If your on TS normally, you will have to switch channels manually in TS

What the plugin does. (should do)

Is change channels in TS when you change the frequency of your Radio or use a different radio while playing DCSA10C.

So, for example, you can set it up so that the frequency for Shochi AP matches the channel ATC in TS.

Then when you contact shochi AP in game, you will be automaticly switched to the ATC channel in TS so you can also talk to the people there and avoid landing on top of someone about to take off.

Bit lengthy and not as clear as it could be but i did my best.:smilewink:

I am wondering if the reason were getting some better increases in FPS is because ED turned down the objects drawning distance? I see helicopters disappear on the ramp at 20 ft away, I see bridges only show up less than a 1000 ft above, making them impossible to bomb from low to medium altitude.

I'm afraid Silicon based CPU are as fast as their going to get due to the heat limitation we have reached with silicon. I am afraid we are not going to see Gallium processors in the near future until the price comes down to under a million for 250 Ghz. Intel might stretch to 4.0 Ghz but any electrical engineer know's that Silicon breaks down at 4.6 Ghz if not cooled by liquid Nitrogen for no more than about 13 seconds. So unless ED is going to start using multi-core and off-load to the GPU were just trading Peter to pay Paul.

ED is it time to take a look at some other options. I really love this sim, and I don't want to see it end up like so many other unfinished flight sims. It's been a long time since I have flown a sim of such high fidelity. Some nights I can't even go to sleep until i finish replaying the day's mission back in my mind to figure out what went wrong. I know you would never cut corners, so don't stop trying to make this the best sim ever.

By the way, if were not going to get a Beta releases like originally promised, can we at least get a status update regarding what's be worked on.

Nobody said we wouldn't get a beta release. ;)

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Well I don't know if they are engineers, but some of the forum members here may disagree with you:

Also these guys, and many others like them around the web:

Check here re TARS http://www.excessiveheadspace.com/tars/

It basically simulates RL radios in DCS MP (distance degradation, tuning panel radios to correct freq. to be able to communicate to team members, no radio when dead etc.) Pretty amazing.

What? I would like to see the proof on this. I know of people ocing the new Sandy Bridge processors at 5GHz + ON AIR. Here So where in the world are you getting this info?

Intel themselves demonstrated an i7-2600K (where the "K" indicates the processor has an unlocked multiplier) running stably overclocked at 4.9Ghz on air cooling (Details not yet revealed).[10][11] This has gained some attention, as of 2010, it typically requires water or better cooling to achieve 4.9*GHz. Liquid Nitrogen Overclocking has refuted that it probably was not an accurate performance demo, saying "not a demo where the system was stressing all cores and threads, and it was not a statement confirming this could be maintained for 24×7 operation."[12] Liquid Nitrogen Overclocking has shown instances of an Core i7-2600K processor operating at 4.5*GHz on a P67-chipset motherboard, and a Core i5-2500K processor operating at 4.2*GHz using a H67-chipset motherboard. All other details are still unknown.

Allright, then supply us with a single published paper that states that high clock frequencies can damage silicon based semiconductors. :)

The ''clock frequencies'' wont damage the chip likewise, but they might do (dont know if its the right term in english) ''electron migration'' if it's getting to hot (because of the chip beeing made so small, wich can shorten his life). But you can run it at 5ghz or more with LN2 and it wont damage it, the important thing is Temperature

Do you think that getting 9 women pregnant will get you a baby in 1 month?
