About Iris Simulation A-10A Warthog add-on for FSX

Hello,

I have just discovered the existence of this commercial add-on for FSX..

Did you know about this add-on ? I checked the presentation and it looks really cool. Too bad it's not free :-) (45 dollars).

How would you compare this add-on to DCS:-A-10C so far if anybody has bought it?

But I don't want to be kicked out by DCS because I quote a competitor: and anyway I thinks DCS: A-10C Warthog is by far the best and ONLY A-10C simulator. :-)

I have the IRIS F-15 package. It looks nice, but flying it doesn't feel right....it will go supersonic on 80% power.....the IRIS A-10 my have similar unrealistic characteristics.

You are compareing two totally different products. They are not in competition with each other at all. As for the IRIS A10 it is a nice addon for FSX, but like all addons in FSX it is for flying not combat. :pilotfly:

The supersonic flight model in FSX was BADLY flawed pre P2. They did make some changes to it in SP2 I believe but it might still be flaky. Somehow FSX and combat aircraft just does not compute for me in any case :joystick:

With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

Its decent, the external model is a bit off, and its nowhere near the complexity that we have in DCS, but as an FSX add-on it's certainly not the worst one out there. But I have to agree with RogueRunner, combat aircraft simply do not work very well in FSX.

I really liked their F-16D, in my opinion it flies better than most combat aircraft in FSX, still its not perfect.

And they are asking $45 for this? This is not even close to DCS A-10C... the aircraft 3D model looks nice and the cockpit looks nice but that's about it.

No longer active in DCS...

it (and other iris aircraft) were $5 over xmas, wait until next holidays for a sale if you're still wanting to try it

haven't bothered loading it up myself yet :)

The IRIS PC-9 is nice (and by extension, probs the Texan aswel). I like flying the military trainers, but if I want to fly a combat jet on my pc I use a combat sim. Why would you opt to fly a version in FSX that cannot simulate a great deal of it's capability?

DCS A-10C compared to A-10 FSX release

The DCS A-10 does not compare to the FSX engine and flight Dynamics. DCS has made a amazing engine for the plane with real Flight Dynamics. FSX has two releases for the A-10 one from Aerosoft and another from Iris; Aerosoft A-10 is old and bad model; Iris A-10 is really good the only thing holding it back is the FSX crappy engine. Heres a test try Slow flight on the A-10 in DCS and then in FSX then practice stalls.

Its exterior model looks okay, but ive never really liked iris's planes because to me they dont seem to fly realistically.

It should be around $10. Total rip-off.

It will be when the Tacpac is released.

Although aircraft would have to be modeled with the SDK to be combat effective.

Then we can truly compare the two sims right?

I'm betting that once tacpack is released you'll see a big difference in how weapons and the corresponding avionics are modelled between DCS and FSX.

And this is just for the weapons modelling.

IMO tacpack will just add another notch as to why FSX just isn't a combat flight sim. Good for flying around and possibly blowing things up Hollywood style via tacpack but there is no way it's going to recreate the in depth simulation that is DCS, Falcon or even FC.

So in an nutshell - Iris A-10 ($45) + tacpac ($30) or DCS:A-10 ($60).

imho asking this question on this forum is a bit daft.

It's like going to a pub in Manchester and asking who is better - Man U or Barcelona.

JD

IN which case all the Man. City fans will say Barcelona.
