F4 community says F4:AF's graphics SUCK.

Posted

I just bought it today and let me tell you that i am impressed how much the graphics sucks. I have a p4 2.4 ghz and a gf 6800 128mb and the graphics look very crappy, with the exeption of the cockpit . When you get close to the ground u can see the tiles and the special effects sucks, when the plane breaks it looks like an old atari game. This is with all the graphics maxed out. I hope the gameplay is as good as they say , i just started playing it.

It will be a -long- time before you get deep into it. And you will -not- be able to appreciate it until you -do- get deep into it. Personally the graphics still kill it for me, but I'm giving it a shot.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

But the gameplay itself will be better.

I really do think it bites hard that they encrypted the terrain and skins files

so we can't add tom hitiles..etc... (tho I do understand why, but I think it was a bit too much).

Thanks,

Brett

I can't understand this either! Why encrypt the skins and tiles? I can't even remember flying F4 without HRenners skins and TomW's Hi-tiles. I wonder if it has to do with payware?

There are a couple of movies posted over at Frugals that I was looking at a few minutes ago. They really turned me off the game but I'm still contemplating getting it due to the review over at SimHQ. I'd like to see how this Dynamic campaign thing works.

The graphics really do look like (from those movies) crap, like a previous poster said, "from an old atari game." I'm kind of on the fence with Falcon. Even with some of the problems we've had with LOMAC, LOMAC:FC really is and has been my jet sim of choice.

Anyone played it online yet? Namely, how's the netcode in AF. And even more specifically has anyone tried formation flying in AF.

Just curious.

Yes, some guys on frugals did, and they also inflight refuelled.

A DC works something like this, you start the campaign and the war begins. Whether you die, crash, land safely or sit on the tarmac. The war will continue. If its on a server and you're playing online you'll be able to pick your package and go out and do your mission while 100s of ai air/sea and ground objects are doing their thing. Its continuously flowing and can run for days. The graphics might not be as good as lockon but the dc and the immersion more than make up for it. Actually the graphics aren't that bad when you play it. The ultimate is F4 with FCs graphics.

The best 2D cockpits ever made where you can actually use 99.9% of the buttons and they all do something. Then when your in a dogfight you can use the 3D cockpit view as you won't be flying heads down pressing buttons.

What has happened is that more people now are graphics whores. Whatever happen to gameplay. Gameplay comes first in my book. Yes, LOMAC can wow us with it's looks and it does have a few nice touches with the Su-25T flight model. But F4 is doing things LOMAC can't, the dynamic campaing system for one. Non scripted suck down landings and the feeling that you are taking part in a full scale war and not just flying missions that are stuck together in an order.

If F4 had LOMACs graphics, no system in the world would be able to run it. Look at the job people have trying to get a heavy mission in FC to run smoothly, and thats only with a fraction of the number of units in a F4 campaign.

Personally, I love the idea of getting in a jet and starting it up cold. Going through a check list, flicking on a 100 or so switches to bring your jet alive. I'd love to see this in LOMAC, I really would. I'd pay 50-60 Euro for that feature alone and nothing else.

I'm not bashing LOMAC here. It's great also. It's like having two women and you can only pick one. Yet from time to time you stray from one to the other because they both give you a little someting you want, and you keep coming back for more.

I long for the day when a sim comes along that can combine the best features of F4 and FC. It would be like the second coming. Even if the damn thing cost me 100 Euro I'd buy it and have no regrets in doing so. Thats how much I love my sims.

We can all get very attached to our sim of choice. Stand up, get angry and fight for it, defend it, and tuck it up into bed at night. These are truely ground breaking and rare games/sims that we should marvel over. The amount of time it takes to roll out these creations, they are not like an FPS that are two to a dozen. I'm glad I've had the oppertunity to experience these sims knowing I'll never get inside a real fighter and fly one and imagine what it's all about.

Not true. Falcon 4 is simply more efficient in managing significant number of objects than Lock On is, because it was designed from the outset to use a "bubble" type system. You can search that up here or any F4 forum to get a description of it if you want. If F4 handled its objects like Lock On did (full time rendering), no PC will ever be able to play it.

Bottom line, it is actually very possible for "LOMAC 2" (just a personal moniker for ED's next project) or Fighter Ops to incorporate graphics and a dynamic campaign engine that are far superior to both LOMAC and F4:AF in the near future. It's not impossible.

I wasn't talking about this 2D coskpit, but about 2D cockpit in general, with flat lights are so separated from the scenery.. I can't look at a 2D cockpit...

And scenery still sucks a lot.. I expected some more honestly.. there are 3 kinds of girls, intelligents, pretty, and both.. I hope FighterOps will be both...

F4s pit isn't that bad actually, I like the ramp starts in F4. Wish I could use the F-16 sounds from FO on it(or lockon-if only it had a ramp start file in lockon). (ricos sounds rock) I'd like to see a Mig 29K or SU30 sim with ramp starts. That would be fun, especially finding some of those necessary buttons written in cyrilic.

But isn't ED working on this allready ?????

I seem to remeber a post awhile back from

Igor or Valery or one of the developers where they were discussing the recording of engine sounds for the upcomeing project.....

And someone else mentioned this fact also, regarding the sounds of the F-16 in Falcon .......

Well the developer said that they had been listening to this as well and they were interested in doing this but they were going to put it in a mixer to tweek it or something to that effect and their also considering the switch flicking options as well......

Subs wasn't that discussion in that thread the "The Future of Lockon" or was it "Things To Come ", I don't know I'm getting forgetfull in my old age (LOL)......

I think it was in the "Pretty big news for the future" thread. Which sounds like the ultimate in flight sim when they finish it.
