Can't wait for this either. For the time being, I've been taking pictures of the briefing screen as posted previously. It works well enough, but an app like this would be kickass.

BTW, I'm on a jailbroken 3Gs 4.2.1. I don't have a lot of spare time, but if you are interested in beta testers, I think I could help out.

Nice work :)

Airfields maps and main check lists would be a good start before releasing a "beta" App for me.

One question about the check lists (at least the main ones) : will it be possible to check each step with the finger to see clearly what is done or not ?

Another question : I see a "countermesures" button on your screenshot : is it only for the CMSP check list settings or is it possible to have useful infos about SAMs or AA guns like range and code on RWR ?

I'm really impatient to get your App on my Iphone

Thanks!

Yes, the "countermeasures" button would basically send you to the same Countermeasure Panel Programming Checklist from the manual. For that matter, I'm basically planning on reprinting the checklist from the manual, just in an easier format to use with the iPhone interface. So as far as custom checklists or checklists that other forum members have made, I have no plans for including that. And to answer your question, YES, the checklist works like this:

Table list of Challenge and Response items (in DCS manual, the "Controls"/"Operation" portion of the checklist section).

When the user taps the item, a checkmark is placed to the far right of the cell and the checklist items scroll up one cell level.

A button in the navigation bar will allow you to "clear" all the checkmarks for that list.

When ready for the next checklist in that module, simply swipe to the right. Or to go back to a previous checklist, swipe left. To switch modules (say from normal operations to setting up your CMS panel), you would use the navigation back button to goto the home screen with all the different checklist buttons.

As far as RWR symbology or other aircraft/air defense/ground unit info, I could make another section (similar to the "Encyclopedia" section in the GUI) for the app. Just will take more time. ;)

And for the Android people, I have a friend who's going to try to mirror my app soon.

And lastly, thanks to all who have offered their time to be a Beta tester of the app. However, logistically it'd be pretty tough because I would need to you to ship me your phone so I could provision it and install the app. Thanks for the offers but I think it'll be easier to just wait till it's on the app store and give me feedback then.

Heyguys,

Just jumping in to say this is a great initiative! I use my ipad as my leg note book all thetime with the flight manual or quick guide a simpleclick away. I'd love to have a more interactive version if those documents available for easier accessibility but i can'treally complain. However what you are doing hereisjust amazing! Technology at its best!

As a suggestion, i don't know that it is possible, but having the posibilityfor the game to produce an email and automatically send the mission briefing and relevant information by email (as specified) would be great. We could all simply load the mail on our portable device easily.

One thing is for sure, im in the processe of cumulating all the revelant information ican find on my ipad for quick use, including airport frequencies and such.

Great stuff guys!!

Wow Great work, I have an iphone 4 so cant wait for this app, However I have to say it screams out to be used on an ipad 2, Guess I know what my next purchase is.

Cant wait for this, Just one question though, Is this going to be an official Iphone app, or will I have to Jailbreak to use it? Neither option is a problem, Just wondering.

Thanks Tyger! Not sure how useful this thing will be, I do like the laminated cards I've seen on the forums... But, I'll keep plugging away for the heck of it.

**UPDATE**

So, I've finished the interface for a briefing card (still need to make another section for airborne info such as 9-line, Net ID's, Laser codes, etc.) But, I don't have the database for mission info pre-stored on the App like I want... yet. I'll start working on it soon, but for now it's a functioning "piece of scratch paper" which doesn't have the ability to save or load info for a given mission. Also, the "checklist" page isn't functioning yet, but the Airbase PDF's all work and are scrollable/zoomable with drag/pinch (Thanks again Shu for letting me use your PDFS!) .

Anyways, would anyone like me to go ahead and try to get this on the app store now or would you rather wait for me to implement the database storage capability first? I guess I could always submit now and "update" it later. Thoughts? More suggestions?

Well I would say for myself, that any info is better than none, So if you could then get it on app store and then update it as and when the other options become ready that would be great. However if going that route means more work for you and longer to wait for the full product then wait.

Whatever you decide the community im sure will be more than greatful, Im just impressed that you have even taken the time for us to make this.

Thankyou

That's the plan, I don't know how I'd release an unofficial iPhone app! ;) My phone is not jail broken so I'm only planning on releasing this on the Apple App store. And yes, if this is accepted on the App store and people like it, I'll immediately start work on the iPad version. My iPad is still 3 weeks out from shipping.

Currently, I'm halfway through the checklist portion... looking good so far. Next will be the "QRH" for emergency procedures. When I'm done with that, I'm going to get a reference section in there for RWR symbols and an "encyclopedia" like section for aircraft and weapon data. Still a few weeks away from submitting it to the app store.

Hi sick dog,

Nice looking app.

Be advised that releasing the app on iTunes will require you to pay $99. For this reason you may need to charge to recoup some costs.

There is also a way to make apps work on both iPhone and iPad without having to make separate versions but I still need to research how that works.

Before working on the iPad version I really think you should be trying to work on a way to connect it to the mission briefing.

I am going to attempt this and perhaps we can join forces at some point. It must be possible, it will just take a lot of research, patience and some time.

Retyping the briefing into a tool seems a little clumsy to me. If we can work out a way to get dcs to export the briefing as a xml file to a web server then it becomes cross platform as well. An serous developer writes an app that simply ads this file.

Am I right in guessing that this has lost a little bit of it's relevance since they announced being able to view briefings in mission for 1.08?

I think this still has value as a reference app, but as a mission card app it probably isn't so useful.

Any thoughts?

You might check the way Sandman reads the mission data for Helios. (I didn't read the details but looks like a way to go)

I little server tool connected to your Ipad or Iphone could transfer it realtime.

The server option is the way I use for my Ipadpit solution. (using a 3th party tool Touch IR)

I hope you get a Ipad version running soon, It would be a great addition for my A10 Ipadpit :cheer3nc:

Still waiting for this promising app on the app-store. Any news?

Yup, been taking much longer than I originally thought. The mission card is unbelievably cumbersome to program, many fields of data to work with (and I'm not a professional programmer, barely know what I'm doing!). On top of that I'm getting it all dialed into a database feature so you can save mission data for specific missions.

I just took delivery of my ipad2 so I can't wait to get the iPhone version done so I can make an even better and more useful iPad version. If I were to guess how much longer till I can submit to apple, I'd say another month to be safe. Sorry guys!

Thanks for the offer Tigershark! I think I'm good, most of work has been done by now... If I get rejected from Apple when I submit it for programming issues, I may seek help to fix/re-do things they don't like. Thanks again Tigershark and I'll keep you in mind if I need assistance. :)

Well folks, it's pretty much done. Just working out a couple memory issues and optimizing performance, but the main obstacle right now is getting permission from ED to use their copyrighted info (from the manual, UI Encyclopedia, and anything else they may consider theirs). The problem is I can't figure out how to get permission from them. I've written a couple members here but there the link on the ED web site "Contact Us" is broken. So if anyone has a red phone to ED and can relay my request to use their stuff, it'd be much appreciated!

Here's the Functionality:

-Complete set of Normal Checklist directly from the manual, but in a table view that scrolls and places a checkmark next to completed items.

-Complete set of Abnormal Checklist (and a key for all Caution Light Panel) directly from manual

-Mission Card with database to store info and create unlimited separate missions

1)Mission Description/Objective, your flight info, etc.

2)Friendly/Enemy Countries

3)Weather

4) 1° and 2° Target info, weapon to be used, threats

5)Radio Freqs/Callsign/Type of aircraft for up to 4 flights, AWACS/Tanker/JTAC info, fuel info, takeoff/landing speeds based on weight

6)Time Hacks, Airbase info, Misc Data (NET/LASER ID etc), bullseye coordinates, mission notes, 9-line with a quick and easy to use interface to minimize workload while flying, and a remarks section

-Airbase PDF's from a table list (complements of Shu77)

-and the entire Encyclopedia section form the DCS UI (minus the buildings, didn't see much importance for that) and an RWR symbol key.

It's pretty handy (especially having the encyclopedia section in the palm of your hands) and I think some of you might enjoy it.

I just need to get permission from ED first!
