PeterP Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 (edited) Hey guys ! - this is a long shot... Anyone with this "white-box" problem is using of SoftTH ? My guess is to try to use SoftH as "man in the middle" - so the driver uses a different render-path and maybe eliminate this problem. This might maybe sound strange but it helped Kuky with a really different (he wasen't able to run DCS stable with his 7970) problem but it is might worth a try - who knows. I Have a HD 6870 and everything is OK at my side - so I can't test this. I thought also to post it here to give YoYo a head-ups about problems he might face when his 7970 arrives. Follow the link for the whole info: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1373129#post1373129 I installed IL-2 Cliffs of Dover and it runns quite smooth on High settings and remarkably does not crash... why the hell are DCS titles the only ones crashing?! I'm watching your suffering now a week and it really makes me also very sorry that you have to go trough this... But I have a Idea and this is also very vague but it might work. .... My idea is to try a different render-path by using SoftTH. SoftTH also works when you use only one monitor. I'm curious what will happen. Just give it a try: http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=2123.0 when you have problems to configure - give me your exact monitor-layout and I could write a working file for you within minutes. Just a guess to bring you back into the cockpit until you have working drivers for you and PeterP... mate you are a genius! It actually seems to work as I was able to stay in game for 10min and there was no crash... before crash would happen to within 2-3min at most and on average it would crash within 1min. Is it normal that V-sync does not work, and I notice bit of worse performance with this, I guess it's because Aero is disabled by it? At least it works now... I hope next Catalyst fixes this and everything is back to normal. Also, if DCS works with SoftTH and not with regular card driver.. what does this say/mean? Why is the game crashing with regular drivers??? Edited January 15, 2012 by PeterP
MustangSally Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Sorry, can't. I rely on Helios....which doesn't work with SoftTH. FreeFall Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Good. In this week I will have 7970 so Im very curious about white boxes on this g.card. I hope you'll tell us about your experiences when you get the card. I think I might buy 7970 too.
Kuky Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) Good. In this week I will have 7970 so Im very curious about white boxes on this g.card. I did not see a single white flash on HD7970 in DCS, but I can't it to work stable for more then few monites at most. I thought SoftTH solved it after giving it a try for the first time as I was able to run DCS A-10C v1.1.1.1 for about 10min, but having trying it again last night, it still eventually crashed about 12min in game.... further tries were even less lucky as I DCS A-10C was still crashing even at shorter times just as without SoftTH. So at least I can say when the card runns it runns good and I have not seen any flashing or artifacts in DCS. I was unable to try any preview driver from Catalyst 12.x as it simply does not see this card. Only driver that does work currently is one of the CD and 9.821.1 PS: if you and FreeFal end up getting the card please post if you have problems running DCS A-10C and BS2 (or either of those two) Edited January 16, 2012 by Kuky PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
FreeFall Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Thanks for the information. Too bad you have problems... I think I'll wait a bit, until there is a wider range of cards with non-reference design coolers.
Aries Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Have Sapphire 6950 2GB, tried with SoftH renderer, no joy... white flashing buggers are still there... By the way, SoftH is a really marvelous tool... just arranged my two MFDs on a vertical pivoted monitor right of my main screen and it works like a charm!!! Seems like I'm gonna get into this one... love to tweak... :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining...
YoYo Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I hope you'll tell us about your experiences when you get the card. I think I might buy 7970 too. So, from yesterday Im owner of ASUS HD 7970. Did 30min test with BS 2.0 and A-10C with HDR on ect. No white boxes ! Uffff...... In A-10C - + 20-30% FPS more (64bits) ! Wow! Just I had one crash (freez of driver) and noticed new bug with textures (when you go belly at the runway without gear - bug of textures of sparks). Looks like artefacts but temperatures was ok. Perhaps new bug :D or still beta drivers from AMD. We will se than AMD give to us official CCC 12.xxx In BS 2 - no white boxes, but small improvment of fps, better if I campared with my 6970 but something like +5-10%. YoYo Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 YoYo, thanks for your report! Yes Im very happy with 7970 & DCS10C. With this sim and FSX too the biggest improvement with FPS. Kuky Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 YoYo, so is your 7970 running DCS A-10C and BS2 without any driver crashing? I see you have montherboard with X58 chipset same as mine, just also wondering what is your PSU as you don't have it listed in your PC specs? AussieM8 Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) Hi all, Further update email from AMD in regards to Flashing White Box problem.if anyone wants to give it a try to see if it fixes the problem. I'm not tech savy when it comes to doing this! Dear Customer, Your service request : has been reviewed and updated. Response and Service Request History: Any type of display corruption is caused by communication breakdown that may be caused by any component including the card itself. We have also not seen this issue here at our support center which also suggests that trouble shooting should be applied first. The instructions below include trouble shooting steps for the card; this has a layout plan that consists of the following: · Thorough un-install and re-install of the drivers · Updating the motherboard’s chipset and BIOS · Ending all background processes leaving hardware and Operating System · Ruling out the operating system · Replacing the video card The instructions included are a complete trouble shooting guide to rule out the video card from causing the problem if the problem is not a known issue. The first step would be to clean out all aspects of ATI from your system. An attached document will guide you on how to remove the ATI files and folder from the system. The step will try to eliminate any files left from an old install that may be causing the new install to fail. Removing previous drivers from the system, Please also ensure that you remove any old display drivers from the system to try to eliminate. This will ensure that the operating system is not confused about what driver to use. Good third party utilities would be: Driver Cleaner: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/desktop_software/other_tools/driver_cleaner_pro.cfm Sweeper: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655 Please note that both are third party utilities and have no affiliation with AMD. The next step in trouble shooting software is communication break down between the motherboard and the video card. Update both the bios and the chipset on the motherboard to ensure proper communication between the two chips. The north bridge chip on the motherboard which is called the 'Chipset' may be located in your motherboards manual. Try to identify the chipset and update this driver to the latest driver. Please do use the manufactures driver and not the driver provided by Microsoft. Verify the date in device manager the listing should be under Device manager in the System device's section. There you should be able to locate the PCI-Express entry or AGP entry if this is an AGP motherboard. This will ensure that communication flow from the video card to the motherboard is responding correctly. After installation reboot and test again. If the test fails we are still working with software trouble shooting, the next thing to eliminate would be any running background processes from the system. In your task manager should list your running processes underneath the processes tab. The number of processes running on a fresh install of Windows is around 17 processes. Try to narrow your software configuration to where you're only running the hardware, the application you are using. You may visit www.processlibrary.com to try to identify the non essential processes. Remove these processes and try to bring the number down to just the operating system. Test the application, if this fails you are left with just the operating system and the hardware to trouble shoot. To try to eliminate Windows causing a problem you may either reformat the system, or install a second hard drive with a fresh copy or Windows, install the motherboards drivers first and then the video card. Try to test the application, should this fail then you would be looking at hardware causing the problem. You may then http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-19285WarrantyServiceRequest.aspx or exchange the product at the point of purchase. If this is a partner produced board like Sapphire, Asus, Visiontek or TUL, ECT then warranty service will be provided by them directly. A second card would rule out the card is not defective. You may also test the card in a different system to see if the problem follows the card. Those are the complete steps to trouble shoot the video card. AMD support can only provide general trouble shooting steps, any registry hacks, or modification to files may be obtained by posting, or researching our online community forum at: http://forums.amd.com/game/ User discretion is advised, here. If complete trouble shooting from the above steps does not resolve the issue or if you are reporting any bugs to the driver team; then visit our website and report any bugs to the Catalyst Crew driver feedback team at: http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D27E29B0E3 Release notes listed on our driver page will provide known issues with the driver, as well as any resolved issues. In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact. skeemo Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 This is a ridicilous answer. They just provided a standard troubleshooting guide like "Re-install drivers", "check for background programs", "card is defective". Wow AMD-Sherlok, thanks for those clues. I bet they didn't even tried to install A10-C and reproduce the issue. As ED already stated, there is a bug in the driver for the 69xx cards, that implements a certain DX function wrong.
Lucky Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) My reply to that e-mail would be. Thank you sir, but I think I'll just switch to Nvidia instead. Mustang Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) I'll have a 6850 arriving here on my PC early next week, once i get a hands-on with it i'll see if i can get around this flashing HDR bug; my thinking is that it'll be possible to inject the atiumdag.dll from Catalyst 11.6 straight into the sims root folder to bypass the main display driver. sylkhan Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 As ED already stated, there is a bug in the driver for the 69xx cards, that implements a certain DX function wrong. Perhaps, but i don't have any problems with other sims, BMS, ROF, ARMA... and ..don't forget that HDR in DCS is Buggy (you must atl tab to activate it) What do you think, AMD problem or ED Problem ? :smilewink:
Aries Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 AussieM8, AMD's answer is totally ridiculous!!! They routed you to the same feedback form that got you into communicating with them in the first place... INFINITE LOOP SUPPORT STRATEGY... LOOOOOL!!! I tried an 6770 1GB card yesterday... a card that is 160€ cheaper than the 2GB 6950 that I have... And guess what!??! I get the same 30-50fps in DCS A-10C and the white boxes are not there... THIS IS CRAZY!!! :megalol: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ...the few, the proud, the remaining...
MustangSally Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 (edited) Only 69xx cards have the issue. Could I ask everyone that is having this problem to write an email to tech.support2@amd.com to log a ticket. The more ppl we can get complaining of the issue the quicker the resolution. Aries Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Mail sent... it's funny... how we are maybe barking at the wrong tree... cause if you think about it... in all other games these white buggers don't exist, DCS-related "feature" only... bah... will be changing graphics card soon if they don't sort it out in 12th Catalyst edition... Nate--IRL-- Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 Thank you Nate... hope you understand my frustration... I do - it is just that we are powerless to fix it. The only solution is to use the 11.6 drivers. I have no problems with 6850 and 6870.
