Lets talk about Beer

Hi guys thought this thread could be interresting since it combines two great things of life. Beer and flightsims.

 

Im currently employed as a diploma brewer in one of the larger breweries in Denmark. (I have also a past in the army as a recon scout for seven years but that is another story.)

 

I would like to know if there is other people in here who are interrested or have questions about brewing or just want to share some of their favorite brands/types of beer. I would be glad to try an answer any questions regarding brewing. Personal favorite types of mine are Pale Ale, Porter and Stouts

I am a fan of hand crafted goodness. I live close to the largest macro brewer in the States - Coors in Golden. I prefer smaller batch micro brews as it affords me the opportunity to taste what you brew masters are up to outside of what is already been done, and whats been done really well for thousands of years and not enough of. :drunk:

 

I love hoppy beers and malty beers. I guess I like them all!

 

Favorites are IPA's - always some of 'dat in the refrigerator. Stouts and porters fit well always... Pilsners and Wheat beers on occasion as well. I njoy hitting the breweries in the mountains and taking home growlers of seasonal as well...

 

My favorite brewpub to date: The Church Brew works in Pittsburgh, PA. Fashioned in a 1903 church in the heart of the old steel district, pues cut in half to make tables; hops garden in the convent; copper right on the alter. Its awesome. Tremendous food and the Best Munich Dunkel on the Planet (of the ones I have tasted :beer: - i am sure the still make a pretty good one in Germany)

Here's a pic of my beer shelf.

 

The center shelf is mostly Belgians. Towards the right are the Unibroue's, but they do the Belgian style so well, I throw them into that category.

 

Hard to see on the right, but it's most of the Great Lakes line. Great beers from those guys.

 

Kasteel, Duvel, Maredsous 10, and Tripel Karmeliet are still my fav's

 

One of these days, when I have the time, I would like to home brew my own triple. Just haven't had the time :(

I've just come back from a beer weekend in Brussels. I'm a big fan of trappist and abbey ales, as well as lambic style. One of my favorite beers is Tripel Karmeliet:

There are too many beer pubs in Brussels, but I'd like to recommend Le Poechenellekelder. Great selection of beers and good atmosphere, far from the crowded Delirium Tremens.

I started helping my dad brew beer when I was still too young to drink it. When I got older I brew my own beer a few times. Made some brown ale with strawberries and cherries. I think my notes with the recipe are still somewhere in my dad's books about brewing. Haven't brewed in years as I now live in an appartment and don't really have the space to do it.

 

Ofcourse most of all I love Belgian beers. I probably like some beer in every style Belgium has. Westvleteren, Rochefort, Chimay, Westmalle, Dolle Brouwers, Rodenbach, Cantillon, Drie Fonteinen, Hansens etc.

 

Strangest beer I ever drunk was a 10 year old Kasteelbier bruin. Didn't taste anything like the fresh one at all. Sweetness had gone and there were some port tones in it. You also needed to filter it as the yeast had all broken down. Strange, but tasty in the end.

 

Best beer memory I have is going to the Belgian GP with my dad some years back. We arrived at our hotel Thursday morning. We went for a walk in the afternoon and soon stumbled across Moeder de Gans in Teuven. They had a sign outside claiming they had a lot of kinds of beers. Looking through their beer menu we noticed the Westvleteren 12 right away. So that's how we ended up spending the afternoon. Sitting in the garden drinking Westvleteren 12 :)

My Favourite Pilsener: Flensburg Pilsener and Stoertebeker "1402" Kellerbier.

I also recommend: Uerige Altbier (Duesseldorf). Best enjoyed in the Brewery itself, right in the Duesseldorfer Altstadt.

My votes go for Pilsner Urquell as mentioned earlier. Budweiser(chezch) place two. Also very good is Tyskie Staropramen or Breznack.

I'm a big Belgian trappist and abbey beer lover.

To name some of my favo's: Orval, Rochefort, Maredsous (brown).

 

Last summer I also tasted some surprisingly good American beers in Sweden: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo. My goodness ... nice and bitter!! In combination with smoked Lund sausages ... drewl :)
