(model parts and texture) ^ Doesn't feel like EDs work to me (I'd love to be wrong) It is very similar, being a Russian type airport, but it doesn't have the same feel. ALDEGA Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 It's not ED's work, check the video on this site: http://www.htpostrava.cz/ At 2:48 you can see a map which looks like the Georgian coast though ...
JaNk0 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 It may not be ED, but check out this scenery! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Blaze Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 (edited) Woah, never seen the sky those colors before. It's like a mix between DCS runways water and ground mesh, Outerra trees, and X-Plane ground textures. Yuck! :D Edited April 7, 2012 by Blaze i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement. Moa Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 The sky colors are likely to be correct accounting for Rayleigh and Mie scattering, rather than the artistic guesses we're used to in existing products. See "Accurate Atmospheric Scattering" on a good approximate that can be done with current GPU shaders: http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems2/gpugems2_chapter16.html

Daze Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Potentially stupid question, but here goes: Is Groom Lake/Papoose Lake/Area 51 etc in the DCS Nevada map? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] First to Fight, First to Strike.
ALDEGA Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 That's what I figured, but the real one looks a lot different.
HiJack Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 That's what I figured, but the real one looks a lot different. Any picture of the real one?
ALDEGA Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Google maps :) While you're there, look up the other airports which are modeled in DCS. You'll find many of them are in a bad state, some pretty much gone/abandoned. You can also see traces of the bombings of Senaki and Kopitnari (named Kutaisi in DCS) in the 2008 Georgian war. Lastly, you'll see that two airports (at Poti and Marneuli) are not present in DCS.
HiJack Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Well, from google maps I would say FC2 and DCS version of the airport is the more correct one. And I guess Russia has the same problem regarding what airport to keep operating as all other countries. (HJ)
Newt Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Is anyone else a little sad that the ED newsletter did not include anything about the Nevada map? I understand if there isn't much of a release date or something, but couldn't they just throw out some additional pictures now and then? I guess it will get here when it gets here. But it sure is taking a long time. I hope it really has changed (for the better) since beta, considering it's been over a year since we flew it there, no? Mostly, it kind of makes me worry about the state of their company. Perhaps they are working on too many different things at once and are stretched too thin? Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D
EtherealN Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I hope it really has changed (for the better) since beta An entriely new terrain engine would qualify as "has really changed", I think, yeah. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

You have never flown the Nevada terrain in development - it's an entirely new terrain engine being developed by a seperate development team. Newt Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Well, that is good. And I really didn't mean for it to sound like a complaint, just expressing "sadness" lol. I know that it must be annoying to always answer questions about it. But it has just started to feel like all those games and movies that end up in dev hell and as I mentioned, it makes me feel sort of bummed. lol Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D
159th_Viper Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 There should be another Nevada update in May. No promises though :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Newt Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 (edited) There should be another Nevada update in May. No promises though :) Is that what they said before? For some reason I had remembered April. That could just be a mistake on my part. Ah, yes, I just found the post. My mistake. Edited April 9, 2012 by Newt Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D
ALDEGA Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 You have never flown the Nevada terrain in development - it's an entirely new terrain engine being developed by a seperate development team.I wonder how it will compare to an engine such as Outerra ...
HiJack Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 An entriely new terrain engine would qualify as "has really changed", I think, yeah. :) I haven’t read the whole thread but does introduction of a new terrain engine (EDGE) require a redo of the Caucasus map? (HJ)
sobek Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I haven’t read the whole thread but does introduction of a new terrain engine (EDGE) require a redo of the Caucasus map? (HJ) IIRC ED stated in the past that they would cease working on the caucasus map. The map would however have to be redone to be able to use the new technology. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Blaze Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Correct, the Caucasus map will not be re-made to utilize EDGE technology. i7 7700K | 32GB RAM | GTX 1080Ti | Rift CV1 | TM Warthog | Win 10 "There will always be people with a false sense of entitlement.
