ED is not a charity organization. They rebuilt the map from the ground up, it's a totally different map development team and a totally different rendering engine. It's not the same product that was mentioned in A-10C beta. That Nevada map died with the dev group that was doing it.

I feel it's reasonable to purchase DCS: Nevada as the first proof of concept on the new terrain rendering engine. How else are they supposed to offset the cost of the terrain engine development if they give it away?

That were the arguments on the last couple pages why it would be reasonable, yes...agreed

To get everything for free apparently. :megalol:

where are people demanding everything for free, or expecting Nevada to be given away ?

It has already been paid for by the a10c pre-orderers.

have you?

Yes I brought this up kind of.

But anyways I didn't mean to sound unfriendly.

It's just in discussion bc how likely it might be that the Nevada that was promised to beta testers is not considered to be existing anymore but a new Nevada started from scratch that might has to bring in those extra costs again.

Remember Half Life 2 epi 3 included in the "orange box"? If they now bring out half life 3 with the same story continuing..would they still give it to those that purchased the orange box?

Just speculating of course.

Everybody (of the beta testers) hopes to get it still "for free" (or already paid) of course

I dont expect Nevada to be free.

I have already paid for Nevada (in my case, twice).

I would like what i paid for, whether that is the old or new nevada - so long as it works in DCS World (as that's the route we have to go down now)...I don't care.

Never got a promise of getting Halflife2 episode 3 free on any of my Orange Boxes.

Halflife3 i would consider a seperate product from Halflife2 episode 3.

In the absence of any delivered product to date, Nevada is Nevada.

Want the old Nevada in World? Just drag it over from your Beta 2 directory. :smilewink:

... contact the pre-orderers with a download link to the existing Nevada map they paid for so we could use it now.

But generally, if a company gives away feature y together with product x for a certain price they will have made their calculations to determine that price. The idea of getting the map "for free" was never explicitly specified and limited to the idea of a simple low-fi version of a map. (or was it?)

Now, if changes are made later on to improve said feature to a hi-fi version and it replaces the original feature y, the terms of the deal still don´t change because of that. Otherwise you would not even be delivering the low-fi feature as initially advertised and thus not fulfilling the original contract. There has never been a final version of the old map.

The production cost rises, but this lies very much within the responsability of the person who wants to sell something and has to set a price in the beginning. Of course, everybody tries to pass his own cost of production on down the chain, but this isn´t always wise and not even always possible.

Nevermind, it´s already way too late... :D

You are right.

DCS A10C was a beta at this stage and when it became a product they said Nevada will be payware but beta testers get it for free.

I really don't think they take that back.

The whole gesture of giving payware to beta testers for free was to keep their word to per-purchasers that expected it to be in the package they bought.

For those in the same situation as Chokko ( Such as Myself), Is there any chance the Beta 2 theatre can be uploaded to the user files section ??

Yup, and it was kind of a nice gesture. I just remembered that the A-10 beta-purchase cost 60$ instead of 40$ at present (of course it´s more than a year old, but still it has been the most expensive of all until now).

That is very true! Even way less in some specials sometimes now.

That should cover Nevada :)

Nope. Not Legal bc it was for pre purchase only. (which also confirms that it was considered included/paid in pre purchase)

But guess someone could give it to you via FTP or so in a legal way as long as you purchased the beta.

Maybe I missed it, but last I read, people who pre-ordered A-10C were still getting the Nevada content without having to pay anything else. Those who bought A-10C AFTER it was released will still need to pay for the Nevada content. Correct me if I am wrong.

:) yes it wasn't really a question here...more a speculation if they would do something like that considering the start over and production change on that.

But you are right we filled enough pages of this thread with that speculation.

Let's put it to rest.

The subject has been debated a lot in the forums for some reason. Even though ED has never changed their stance. [shrug?] So now that this one is done, lets kill the DCS:F/A-18x, DCS:F-16x, and DCS: Bicycle debate while we're at it, hahaha.

Disclaimer: ED has never announced any of the above.

[joking]...but anyone playing the Combined Arms beta knows without a doubt, DCS: Bicycle is next...right? [/joking]

When I pre-ordered the A-10 I did so in part because of the bonus Nevada map. I have also waited a long time for that bonus.

According to what has been said by ED, you will receive it when it is released.

DCS: Bicycle is next...right?

It strikes me that, if properly modelled, DCS Bicycle could be rather difficult given the lack of external stimuli to aid in keeping the vehicle properly vertical. :P

Ayt, regarding the F/A-18C ... :D

...you think that one will come before or after Nevada?

You are talking about the simplified drive model that 3rd party dev. could use? :D
