Why?

In RL, visible chips or cracks would ground the aircraft I should think (hope).

Yes! Why not model ground crew flokking up around your aircraft changing the canopy? :pilotfly:

Even large/a lot of noticeable scratches would require a canopy change

Even smudging the glass with fingerprints was considered a no, no in our Air Force (no matter who did it, pilot or ground crew). Our ground crews were always vigilant to keep the canopy clean.

You might get a crack as the result of battle damage (and I think most canopys are designed to withstand birdstrike, so you get a mess but not a crack).

Unless he is thinking of bullet holes when in action then :P

I seem to recall an old post where someone put the refueling boom through their canopy but that damage was only modeled in the exterior view, or something to that effect.

im sorry, i should have made my post more clear. Hijack got it right.

after a sortie the exterior damage model i think i great, why not damage model the canopy front glass (or what ever they call it)

Should show "Paths of Hate" but only crap is loaded to Youtube. Search for the video in VIMEO

As for refueling, I wish the boom could create dents and possible broken glass. I had seen an A-10 at Quonset ANG base, Rhode Island (2009). The bird had just returned from overseas the day before and the front glass was stíll busted. The pilot said the boomer was having a rough day... first by putting all the dents in the nose, then came down onto the front windshield cracking it real bad. I have pictures somewhere, but I'd have to search. It would be great if that were modeled. Especially the dents as it looks like every A-10 has dents on the nose.

Yeah, they do. Kind of ridiculous that they can fly like that.

The pilot said the boomer was having a rough day...

Typical pilot :p

I think it would be real nice if someone from ED finally explained why they gave up on any crazing, scratches or battle damage modelling on the canopy...

Just say it... we'll understand...

For example say: "It kills framerate like when you pass close on a smoke animation from a ground unit and it cuts FPS to 1-5... cause it's bitmap graphics and we still can't render it fast nevertheless you bought top of the line CPUs & GPUs..."

How things stand now, there is only a big questionmark over my head: "Why is something existant in the Producer Notes videos been removed???"...:sad_2:

It would be kind of nice to hear the reason why. I know that a lot of people say that there wouldn't be any, etc. But, when you watch videos from inside real planes, they often have them. *shrug* oh well...

Live every week like it's Shark Week. :D

IIRC the crazing didn't move with the canopy when it opened - it was removed from the original Warthog LOM cockpit. Since the LOM cockpit no longer had it - it never made it in to the reworked EDM Cockpit. No idea if it will return.

Makes sense, I remember seeing the static crazing in the first Producers Notes, and after that never saw it again.

Not to threadjack, but along the same lines I'd like to see better modeling for killed pilots. I know they show a little blood on the canopy for exterior view and on the HIND I know the pilot will slump over the controls when killed but I always thought it was a neat concept, ever since I shot the pilot of a HIND with the cannon once.

I guess bottom line is more noticeable cues when the pilot of an aircraft has been killed?

Half people want a cracked canopy and glass and half don't want...

Simply idea...

What about create a cracked canopy/glass and a simple option for disable it for people who don't want that ?

Same thing for the yellow windshield missing ?

Its better to have a big page with a lot of options and can personalize the simulator how we want than minimal options with no choice...

Unfortunately that leads to a higher PEGI rating - not really desirable.

Ah crap, yeah I didn't think about that... Hmmm

How hard of a mod could it be to make, then? ;)

That is a very important consideration. When the market is already small, it does nobody, including the current users, any good to reduce it further.
