I'll just keep saying it. ED could take off (no pun intended) with the flight simulation market if they'd work on:

- World scenery.

- Open architecture and tools for creating 3rd-party aircraft and scenery.

It's a no-brainer from where I'm standing.

Scenery yes, aircraft absolutely not! I'd want all aircraft fidelity DCS quality, and not A10 physics attached to another plane...

Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car.

i don't buy this environment argument. a-10 can plausibly participate in a black sea conflict. the p-51? not so much. ed isn't guilty of this at all(yet).

the issue is really what ed's intention is. is it going to be a civilian plane for airshows around nevada or is it going to be shooting up su-25s over georgia?

there's a feeling of going "mainstream" if you will...of fantasy scenarios that are a little too much fantasy and too little reality.

simple solution. don't download the poorly simulated mods. what if the sceneries are poorly done? are you going to want ed to restrict scenery modding based on the potential of crappy sceneries? your argument is frankly, nonsense. better mod support will be the best thing that happens to this game.

History says open architecture and a modding community are what make a simulator popular and successful. Don't make it easy, but don't make it impossible, and you end up with groups like PMDG or VRS... with motivation, impeccable attention to detail, and skill to see it through.

I would love to see this for ED as well. With the fidelity and attention to detail they put into their aircraft, I am sure the general flight sim market would be very interested if ED additionally paid more attention to other things than the aircraft themselves, such as bigger sceneries, more attention to graphics, a better graphical user interface, air traffic control (just steal exactly what MSFS has, and I'll be happy), to mention some.

Indeed, very true.

Even with that said, I think it's a far-fetched idea to base a conflict between Russia & South America in a Hawaiian landscape.

Too extreme? Without a European map, I suspect that's how WWII fans will feel when they duke it out with those baddie Germans over Georgian skies.

You mean things like TACAN/VOR, ILS, Radios affected by line of sigh and distance, a graphic engine with shadows, HDR and lighting effects. Weapons that are better modeled than any other sim that I know of. Maybe, those things? Yeah, I can’t wait for that :smartass:

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

Allot of good points here. My hopes are getting a DCS wwii combat sim. If We could set up combat missions in a similar manor We get to in BS and A-10C but in western Europe and the pacific theaters, then this is where ED would have it all over FSX.

Well, correct me if I am totally wrong on this...but I don't remember the P-51D or any other American plane fight.. WWII on North American soil..it was fought on European soil..so what is all the bs about not fitting into the current terrain crap..geez..

Just another opinion.

Just my opinion...so live with it or leave it..no one is forcing you to do what you don't want to do..you live by your choices..not someone else's..

Time will tell how this will pan out. But if ED had to pick a legendary warbird, they would be hard pressed to pick a better or more historically important one.

I don't know about You guys, but I'm gonna fly My Mustang with a couple Vipers and pretend I'm Ed Shippley!! LOL!!!!!!!

I wonder if ED will model NVGs in the P51D. They should, since it is a modern environment and those should be completely independent from the rest of the aircraft in both P51D and Ka-50.

Depends if the Cockpit is designed for NVG use.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

TACAN/VOR, ILS

The simulation of radio navigational aids in DCS is possible, but the crappy collection of NAVAIDs in the Black sea region is not really the implementation we're looking for. That's what he was referring to. We want the whole world, or at least more parts of the world that are actually interesting or relevant to fly in.

I am so going to fly the P-51 in Nevada. Time to start the contract Casino air shows over Las Vegas!!

Someone mentioned above the essence of my concern but I lost the post so I will restate it:

When you buy Rise of Flight or Cliffs of Dover you are getting some assurance of a combat environment in which to fly these COMBAT planes. I haven't seen any such assurances with Mustang. Had ED announced the Ka50 as a module with no combat world to fly it in, only the truly helicopter-curious would have bought it. The same is true of WH. There is a huge catalogue of threats and allies that were included with that sim to provide the player with a logical world in which to fly his A-10. There is no promise of any of this with Mustang. Once you learn to start the thing, manage the engine and appreciate the torque, you are left with what? H2H with other P-51s? It will be fun but...jeeze, I don't know. Its the oddest simulator announcement in my 30 year addiction to virtual flying.

Please!

Please take your time reading all the post carefully don't skim thru them or you will miss something..here is an example of a question of addon aircraft to the P-51D Mustang :music_whistling:

I'm sure there will be a follow on at some point :)

Looks as though there just might be follow-ups..nothing is ever complete!...

270 KIAS at S.L. Yes, low level nav exercises and/or attack missions under an overcast will be fun indeed. That's at 46 inHg and 2700 RPM, max continuous power. Military power is 61 inHg at 3000 RPM, and war emergency 67 inHg@3000. We're getting ourselves a dragster. :)

How about 72" to even 80" MAP. There are numerous references especially late war in the Pacific... with if I remember correctly 150 Octane fuel.

It will also be interesting to see how the Structural G and G limits are modelled.

Depends if the Cockpit is designed for NVG use.

Even if the cockpit lights are not NVG friendly, someone could still bring the goggles anyway.

P-51 = waste of time ..not for me :music_whistling:

I would have to agree with you partly Paraglider30! I was really hoping they would have announced the next modern fighter plane in the DCS series (F18 8) carrier ops ). Even some latest patch news for A10C. :music_whistling: FC3 would be a good start. Bring back Fighter against Fighter sooner rather than later with the new DCS engine!

There are a few WW2 flight Sim's out to choose from at the moment.....COD, IL2 and Wings of Prey. Kinda over them! The WW2 Fighter plane wheel barrow is warn out for me. It was nice to see ED continuing the Modern Plane Path.

I will probably still buy the P-51 just to support ED. I have Lock on, FC1, FC2, BS1, BS2 and A10C so I guess I have been a long time customer of ED and the DCS Series so far.
