started here, but now it is scrapped, moving up!

this month was completely taken by living room repaint, which dragged electrical work, new flooring, another phase of structured home wiring (living room now has 3!!! ethernet jacks  ) and building some custom furniture (designed by my wife). all of that "making the lady happy" was not done without ill intent however - with the new arrangement i secured a dedicated corner for my simpit! :) of all places in the living-room! to make it more presentable the PVC pipe contraption is gone (anyone in chicagoland area can have it for free) and it is a complete, ground up rebuild.

framework is done. as you can tell i'm not going for a replica pit of any particular craft. playing with left console in sketchup, trying to mock up a collective stick as well as WH throttles for both fixed wing and rotary flying. debating between chair or from under the screen mount stick. for ease of entry there will be no right console. perhaps additional movable module later.

cut a recess into the seat and mounted the stick. the two vertical screws did not provide good side to side fixation for the stick base so i added a angle bracket - solid. stick now sits higher , probably bit higher then it should, but quite comfy actually. contraption with 4 shaved screws and hair scrunchies provides additional centering force.

I know.... just tell my bosses to stop setting up dinner meetings ;). I'm on the home stretch with just a few more LEDs to solder and then touch up the paint and ship. If I don't finish up here tomorrow night I'll take Monday off to ensure everything gets done.

Gardoc, thats no problem, i'll wait some more , i still have tons of wiring to do :)

Interesting. You secure it to the bigger piece by glue or Velcro?

Are you making the other panels?

Glued. now i realized i should have used the bigger piece for the face, oh well.

yep, making 2 more. these are not replicas, but contain some useful items. this time built in a proper way. i plan to make printed overlay to use these in other sims as well.

thanks guys.

wiring, wiring, wiring. isn't it fun?

behind the 3 panels. not military grade but tested ok. toggles are wired with common wire, while push buttons have separate leads and separate pin header. i managed to get the non momentary, but latching flavor of square buttons. to remedy the issue i cut the mechanism and glued some tacktile buttons (don't i love these?). end result is great, very light trbutton travel almost till the end and then a distinctive click. much better then the stiff round ones

2 more panels in works

innards of old logitec joystick with addon pin header for button input. had this thing lying around uselessly, now it provides 12 buttons + 4 more from the hat switch.

A bit to late maybe, but this is how i did my landing-gear leaver.

I use a pan-head bolt 8mm I think and a piece of 0.5mm rubber on head side to make it soft.

And I double trow switch, On-On. No need to connect more then 1 pole to it if you use Helios.

I drilled out a hole in landing-gear leaver for switch-leaver activate the switch...

thanks Strix. i thought of doing it similar but somehow the "design" drifted towards what it is now :)

i also used ribbon cables.

for now i think i have almost all the switches i want to :). i really like how the entire construction has room for more when its time to grow . for now I started mounting blank filler panels.

latest picture. i'm really excited to sit there :D

Going nicely there!

I gone build a break out board for my flat cables.

Hopefully that will make it better and nicer.

thank you guys, couldn't have done it without looking at awesome builds here.

so all the buttons are interfaced, yeah! instead of modifying the input files by hand i just added helios bindings from hardware to the sim :). Cleaned up and closed all the openings on front, even if with blank panels , keeps me with room to grow :) . added buttons and a toggle to the rail holding the UFC (red for weapon jet, three yellow ones for fire handles). what is really neat is that the GPWiz inside is 100% utilized . with 5 inputs reserved for hardware CMSC (WIP) and 6 inputs from the buttons i had to connect 8 buttons to digital axis inputs on interface board (did this with 1-8 digits). wrote autohotkey script that monitors that joystick and sends the LCtrl+Lshift_numpad# keystroke. works beautifully :D
