Apache is too mainstream and somehow connected to word CLASSIFIED (longbow), and that's what disqualify it from being DCS module.

Well, then what is CombatHelo actually doing?

And... let's say, the Huey UH-1H is a "mainstream" module as well! Everybody loves that, everybody has "Ride of the Valkyries" and Nam Movies playing in his head... and many, many people love to see that mainstream bird!

For me it is: Janes Longbow 2, Apache by Ed Macy, etc. vivid stories of fighting actual engagements in the Apache... of course many people would like to see an Apache, or a Hind or an Euro Copter, or a Cobra... if I can opt for getting ALL of them done in 6 months I would vote for that.

Since we were aked about our personal preference, I must say mine is the Apache Longbow, no doubt.:P

My first proper sim I had was the Jane's Longbow 2. Had hundreds of hours in that one.

Then I had Enemy Engaged both the Apache and Comanche one. Over the years the apache got quite a nice upgrade from volunteers.

The apache one is my top choice for a chopper.

Combat Helo is doing nothing, as the project currently is on halt. (EDIT: i've just checked. There are some moves, but more or less they're similar to moves in Jet Thunder development or Seven-G)

Combat Helo isn't meant to be on DCS level of 1:1 realism.

Well, yes, the two guys building this thing, have daylight jobs, as well. So they do not proceed very fast. That was not the point... were did you find the statement, that Combat Helo is not about 1:1 realism aka accurate physics, full implementation of the avionics and weapons systems? All I read the last years was to the contrary and the videos show a very detailed and accurate simulation of MTADS, PNVIS, FCR and its various modes... the physics model focusses on 100% modeling rotary wing physics in real time...

And hell, I couldn't find one statement, we can't model this or that because it is classified.

I remember a few posts, one point in time, where Richard(?) was in contact with DCS about including the model in DCS... well maybe when Combat Helo is out.

So back on topic: What exactly disqualifies the Apache Longbow as a DCS module, other than your personal preference? :smilewink:

Don't hold your breath...

AH-64A -Maybe... in my lifetime

RAH-66 - Never..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

explain why never????????

Because there's 2 prototypes of it and that's that...

You wouldn't even know what to model. There's no subject matter experts, no access to data, no anything. You can't build a realistic fligth simulation on a pile of "i heard it can do this or that".

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I think we can play "DCS World: AH-64A" someday. It's the day when ED took permissions to simulate it. But I think it will be many many many years later (like Ka-50). Really... ED may not simulate any helicopter long time (or anymore), after Huey. That's just my opinion.

Sometimes I check Combat-Helo's website hopelessly...

AH-64D would be amazing.

Any 3rd party who would pick that one and be able to do it properly would basically get every apache nerd come rushing to DCS.

It's no module or software out there to fill that gap. Except Enemy Engaged series, but that's like 10 years old now.

It could be that ED already have decided to do the Apache in the future and it's off limits for 3rd parties. We just have to wait and see.
