Just wondering why there haven't been any takers (yet) for creating 3rd party WWII content for DCS World while there have been a lot of announcements for jet age. Does the DCS environment lack the right feel for the era?

Would be interesting to hear what my fellow P-51 and/or WWII enthusiasts think on the topic.

AFAIK good companies that would be willing to put the detail into such project such as A2A mostly feel as if they have invested far too much into FSX for them to switch to DCS. Of course, I am completely unqualified to make such assumptions on their behalf, however this is what I have heard from the grapevine.

There was some hints at some addons (German plane and some American bombers I think) in the works, but nobody has stepped forward to announce their development. I personally am messing with an 8,8 Flak gun, but development is slowed by a 4 month old that could care less about flight sims right now :)

I too would love to see some WWII era aircraft...I've already created a simulated Bomber escort mission(wip) using C-130's until someone creates a B-17 or B-25 bomber..plus would love to see the FW-109's along with some others

I would dearly love to see WWII content in DCS World. Just an non flyable axis machine would be great for now!

DCS is obviously entering a new phase with very positive developments happening right now with CA and the 3rd party fleet of flyables in the pipeline - these things must have taken a lot of time to get to even the announcement stage, I guess.

So I'm optimistic that these things will come (to a lesser or greater extent) with time. But it might take a considerable amount of time of course.

I'm tinkering with 3d max but it is just tinkering at the mo.

Fingers crossed for a WWII era map and a wide range of period assets driving, steaming and flying around the place, poofing their guns off at each other:) - but think how much work is involved in doing all that!

Still ever optimistic.

just adding my voice. i would also pay for a proper WWII environment for the p-51 to fly in.

Oh and also - how about WWII headgear for the pilot?

I am thinking of making the Spitfire MH434 for DCS P-51D so that I can do a spitifre and p-51 duo in Ferocious Frankie! The spitfire will be made public with high quality cockpit and nice sounds! I will upload some pics later guys! NOTE: The spitfire will probably replace another aircraft or be a stand alone model!

For be honest, i was a bit affraid to imagine the P51 alone on the DCS A10 environnement at first..

But dogfight, and convoy attack are allready really excellent, i will like see a environnement more " WWII ", more plane models ( a BF109 or a Zero ) ...

But at least the feeling is here, the flight model is really good ( even if perfectible ), and attack a convoy with the P51 is a pure joy.

The work on the IA is absolutely excellent ( making a lot more easy to fight real player finally ) who was not surprised the first dogfight ?

The P51 was still used in troop defense in the Vietnam ( the early years ) .. It was a good plane in the WWII ( the best and was the only one able to escort the bomber in the heart of Berlin with his additional tanks ), but his different version have really make this planes a good planes even when the first "jet" was appear for close support ..

I will so much like get a Corsair against some zero for a dogfight.. ( or fly the zero for once ).

I'd be in.

I'm not much of a script writer or animator, but I'm an experienced 3d modeler. I'd love to get in on a 3rd party project for an axis plane (so my 51 has something to shoot down). I have had experience doing 3rd party modeling for games in the past. I designed 3 of the ships for Pirates of the burning Sea by Flying Lab Software, for example.

I've been a lifelong flight simmer, and particularly love WW2 sims. Having owned DCS: A-10c and DCS: Black Shark 1, I'm a huge fan of ED now. I think this company has a bright future, and would love to lend my expertise to make an enemy for the Mustang.

That being said, if someone out there is thinking about it and needs a modeler, please hit me up! I own and use Maya for my modeling. I have some 3ds Max experience but can't afford both of these progs.

If there were some wisdom on how I might go about this project on my own as far as scripts and animation issues, I'd love the challenge and might be persuaded.

I was thinking a great adversary for the mustang would be a FW-190, or maybe a later model 109.

This was one of my major concerns about just putting the P-51 as a module without other vehicles of its time... however reading this thread has me pretty excited for what is to come :D
