71st_Mastiff Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 is this working in 1.2.1? or I have to install the mod? :joystick: "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes. Mustang Posted October 1, 2012 Author Posted October 1, 2012 v1.2.1 has a new sun effect, have a look at before installing any mods.
PeterP Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 is this working in 1.2.1? or I have to install the mod? DCS 1.2.1 now uses basically the "alternate version when flickering" with a slightly softer version of my rays.tga. Well - the DCS sun has still the double size of the realistic sun but I think ED did find a good compromise. So there is normally no need any-more to use this mod with DCS 1.2.1.
Megagoth1702 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Playing DCS 1.2.2... Sun is friggin HUGE! Downloading your package Peter. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System specs:2500k @ 4.6 GHz 8GB RAM HD7950 OC'd Win7 x64 Posting tracks to make your DCS better - attention bump incoming!
NRG-Vampire Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Playing DCS 1.2.2... Sun is friggin HUGE! Downloading your package Peter. same problem is in 1.2.3  sun is acpocalypse sized again as far as i can remember in 1.2.1 was smaller - normal sized why ED using this huge sun again in present patch ? :wallbash: anyone modded back to small sized in 1.2.3 ? TY
Speed Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 why ED using this huge sun again in present patch ? :wallbash: I do remember someone saying that 1.2.3 would not be released until the Sun started swelling into a red giant; maybe they were right. Corrigan Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 I don't understand -- I'm pretty sure 1.2.3 uses the small sun; at least, a vastly smaller sun than earlier. Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
Hubris Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I don't understand -- I'm pretty sure 1.2.3 uses the small sun; at least, a vastly smaller sun than earlier. Maybe it is smaller, but it is still gargantuan sized.
Mustang Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 I've been experimenting with a different rays.tga texture and reduced sun luminosity i'll post up a package soon if anyone is interested with trying it out.

Mustang Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) Ok heres the stuff :) To install simply extract the file contents with WinRAR (or 7zip whatever you fancy) to the root directory - typically C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World, it'll ask to overwrite or merge folders so everything goes in the right places. P.S - if you try using cold HDR with this package, you will discover the sun washout is highly reduced (examples below) P.P.S - if you're worrying about multiplayer server integrity checks you don't have to, none of these altered files are checked for in servers so you're all good :) Edited March 23, 2013 by Mustang 1

Hubris Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Absolutely wonderful mod. Sun looks right and the HDR isn't overbearing like the stock one
Frogisis Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Really like this mod, it's a much more "tasteful" sun that's a lot closer to what it actually feels like to get it in your eyes. Corrigan Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I've created an alternative version that has 50% sunray and glare size, feel free to give it a try if you think the sun size is still a little overbearing. Do you have any recommended HDR settings for this? Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
