Hi Mustang - can you cross-check if everything is OK now?

DCS 1.2.1 now uses basically the "alternate version when flickering" with a slightly softer version of my rays.tga.

 

Well - the DCS sun has still the double size of the realistic sun but I think ED did find a good compromise.

So there is normally no need any-more to use this mod with DCS 1.2.1.

same problem is in 1.2.3 :cry:

sun is acpocalypse sized again

as far as i can remember in 1.2.1 was smaller - normal sized

 

why ED using this huge sun again in present patch ? :wallbash:

 

anyone modded back to small sized in 1.2.3 ?

I do remember someone saying that 1.2.3 would not be released until the Sun started swelling into a red giant; maybe they were right.

I don't understand -- I'm pretty sure 1.2.3 uses the small sun; at least, a vastly smaller sun than earlier.

Maybe it is smaller, but it is still gargantuan sized.

I've been experimenting with a different rays.tga texture and reduced sun luminosity

Ok heres the stuff :)

 

To install simply extract the file contents with WinRAR (or 7zip whatever you fancy) to the root directory - typically C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World, it'll ask to overwrite or merge folders so everything goes in the right places.

 

P.S - if you try using cold HDR with this package, you will discover the sun washout is highly reduced (examples below)

 

P.P.S - if you're worrying about multiplayer server integrity checks you don't have to, none of these altered files are checked for in servers so you're all good :)

Really like this mod, it's a much more "tasteful" sun that's a lot closer to what it actually feels like to get it in your eyes.

I've created an alternative version that has 50% sunray and glare size, feel free to give it a try if you think the sun size is still a little overbearing.

 

Do you have any recommended HDR settings for this?
