Well I have to admit, regardless of where I've been in Europe and how many different beers I've tasted - nothing beats a cold Warsteiner!

I would very much like if in the future variants find and Serbian Gazelles (GAMA), just because of the different weapons - Malyutka 9K11 (NATO designation AT-3 Sagger) and Strela-2M (NATO designation SA-7B Grail). Thus, the Gazelle could be a hunter to other helicopters and attack aircraft.

Not sure but, I think Serbian Gazelle can mount both Malyutka and Strelas at the same time, or at least on the same airframe, whereas other Gazelles are all weapons specific variants i.e. an airframe can either use Mistral or HOT. So, this flexibility might be a desirable feature in DCS for some people, even with inferiority of weapons themselves, as well as their sighting systems.

 

Anyway, I don't tnink it is too liekly to happen.

It doesn't track anything automatically. You steer the missile using a small joystick while in flight. The missile is connected by wire to the helicopter. Slow moving targets can be tracked but it's done manually. It is not a fire and forget system.

I believe it uses a SACLOS system so you keep track of the target by using a gyro-stabilized sight (e.g. like TOW) rather than control the missile directly (MCLOS) as in the first portable AT-3 variants.

 

It doesn't have automatic target tracking, of course.

That's quite simple.

 

On older Gazelle version, the pilot had a sight, he aimed at the target, fired his HOT and used the sight to guide the missile manually.

 

On the Viviane version, it's kinda the same, the main difference is that the Camera itself will send informations to the missile to keep it in the center of the sight, so you can, for example, shoot while moving easier.

Yes, WinterH you're right. See attached images.

 

And there is no automatic targets tracking, but there is an automatic calculation of parallax. Operator entries magnitude of the error using foot controls (as shown in this video at 1:57, which has Dudikoff already given link). So the optical system moves in accordance with the speed of moving targets.

 

 

@xaoslaad: I would gladly waived 1km range, if I could get AA missiles. :smilewink:

OMG. Proof that Gazelle does have AA capability! How exciting. Don't know if this applies to the SA342 model though. But that would be the first chopper in DCS with AA.
