It was mentioned in Wags VR Update thread:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=162487

"we added the "laser pointer" mouse to interact with cockpits. When the pointer is over a cockpit interaction element, it will turn green. We also greatly improved the presentation of the menu UI to make it look nicer and more readable. "

Yes it describes the general idea but I wish to know how you move the cursor on screen. There are two possible ways. One would be to slave the cursor to the center of your view, so basically you move your head and position it dead center on some switch and then you have click button mapped somewhere (hotas ideally). This is great because it eliminates need of mouse interaction. Another way is to still keep the mouse and move/keep the cursor independently to your view. This method also has benefits as you can click things in your periphery while looking at something else. I'd like to know if ED experimented with both and which would be more natural.

yeah.. second gen its really going to need to be "flight sim ready"

i wonder how long we're gonna have to wait : /

As a DK1 and DK2 user, I can tell you this. EVEN with DK2 resolution, I will *NOT* fly w/o VR. It makes that much of a difference.

Anyone Try the Oculus CV (Consumer Version) yet?

If there is anyone out there that has gotten the latest Oculus Rift CV let me know. I ordered mine on release day and it was suppose to come this week. I received an email last night that it will be delayed. I am interested in your opinion on the quality of screens and motion blur issues. I am also interested in what version of DCS you are using it in? Also let me know if you used the prior version DK2 and can compare the 2.

I got mine on the 31st. I've made some comments about it in the main rift thread, but I only can compare it to the Gear VR.

As far as DCS, I'm waiting for ED to release a patch because CV1 rift support is currently broken.

I'm curious now. Did ED mentioned any details how the "laser pointer" input works? Is it locked to the user gaze like fixed point which move with users head or is it more standard mouse operated? Both would have some benefits. I'm not sure if anything was mentioned hundred pages before.

If it works anything like flyinside with fsx/p3d it will be great. You pick a button on your joystick, and where you look is where it goes. The only issue I see though, is reaching those out of view switches, or the ones behind the seat.

True, but the gain in immersion beats any disappointment in resolution about 100x over.

I second this. DK2 is (almost) fully Flightsim ready*. Once you go VR, you never go back to 2D.

Many good games have left my HDD because of lack of VR support (IL2 BoS,...)

*except A-10C everything works perfect

I actually find the A-10C to work really well with the Dk2. I wish it was a little smoother, but I can live with it. I only have a GTX 750ti also... if I could afford a 980ti, that would make things much better.

I just hope ED updates to the 1.3 runtime real soon for those who have the CV1, and for us DK2 owners who want a little better system.

YES I am waiting for ED to release this patch, are they even working on this?? I think people would be more open to DCS with it. And will the patch work with the HTC vive as well? Does anyone know which one is better I want to preorder soon but dont know which one to get.....

Lucky's tale seems to work really well with DK2.

Not sure if it's free for all or just for those who preordered CV1

AFIK, its available for free to all CV1s, but EVE is only free for preorders.

I'm expecting big improvements in 1.3. DCS would really benefit from Asynchronous Timewarp (ATW) which should eliminate judder even if the frames drop below 90fps. Something I really hated with my experience with DK2.

That will probably be a 'must buy' once my Rift arrives. Since that is looking like the end of the summer, it might even be out of beta.

I think the "Virtual Desktop" app has the same feature as well.

I just glanced at it once. As I said, considering my order number, I am not in a rush.

Both headsets are very good, and you shouldn't go far wrong with either one. BUT if your more into flight sims the Rift may be the better choice. The displays, optics, comfort, ATW software are more refined, and better suited for flight sims. The Rift is also a couple hundred dollars cheaper if your mainly into flight sims. If your into full room hand tracking, and can't wait, the Vive is the better choice. That said the Oculus Touch inputs are due out later this year, and they should also be more refined than the current Vive wands.

Check out this review from a flight sim developer. http://forum.flyinside-fsx.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1617 The only thing I think he got wrong was the FOV where he suggests the Vive FOV is slighter bigger. The FOV of the Vive is slightly wider, and higher, but its circular where as the Rift is more square. A square has more FOV area than a circle which should make the FOV of both units approximately the same.

I'm getting my CV1 on Wednesday and absolutely gutted I won't be flying about in the Huey in it. It was one of the main reasons I bought after the Dk2 experience.

Oh well... Let's home the devs get DCS up to speed with the new runtime whilst I brush up my lap times at Nurburgring

That's how it works today with DK2, so I don't think it will change. You move the mouse, the yellow crosshairs show up, then move your head and it follows you.

I having problems figuring out what could the graphical differences be in DCS between using a mouse to click on switches, and the Vive wands. Will the Wands extend hands in the 3D space, or will both likely just have a moveable curser.

if you mean the hands of the 3d Pilot, then I doubt it as there isnt free range motion animations on them.
