I also think the focus is balanced overall - but, to reiterate, for simming it will be a bit of a pain. The Apollo switchgear is a bit more in your face than your average jet and even that is tough to make out without the tilted head trick. I really think the boys will struggle to get the HUD to any decent clarity but I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong! =]

Also - don't cancel it. It's worth supporting the cause for version 2... And there is plenty of other stuff to experience on top of the sims! I reckon it will be usable for casual flying still but just too soft to be effective in combat =\ once again happy to be proven wrong.

I'm curious, did I miss something or did DCS release 1.3 support? I understand that some issues will carry over from title to title but it sounds like the reactions are:

We can hope that 2nd generation VR will be worthwhile for simming. How are you all coming to that conclusion without having tried the CV1 in DCS yet? Or am I late to the party and missed that ED has got DCS working with 1.3?

As far as canceling orders, I wouldn't. In 20 years time the first generation VR gear will actually be a fought over collectors item. With that in mind don't toss the box it comes in. :)

You think the rift is much better

I'll let you know. I ordered both and will compare and report back.

All this talk about the bad things on the rift is making me think I should cancel my order and get the vive

I haven't been following people's impressions about the Vive too much, but as far as everything we're saying about the Rift, we're really nitpicking here. I wouldn't give it up for big 4K (and the GPU's I'd need to run it), much less any other display out there.

Oh for sure I have no expectations at all of being able to make out switch labeling. With FlyInside I have to use tooltips or binocular view to make out any of the switches, I expect DCS will be the same. I'm hoping everything on the HUD will be readable (perhaps with a mod)

No 1.3 support yet.

We're commenting about CV1 being sim-ready based on using it on other simulators. There's no reason to expect that the ability to read gauges and text are going to be any different in one sim to the other.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification.

This comment is what keeps me checking my email four times a day.

For real, too. It's the closest thing to a holodeck. I'm excited for the future and the improvements that will come, but the future is also here.

Anyone tried Oculus rift or HTC vive in DCS?

Hey I was wondering if anyone has tried the oculus rift cv1 or the HTC vive in DCS? Ive had the CV1 and CV2 but the resolution was too low to play in DCS, I was wondering what the experience is like with the consumer versions. How is the resolution? Can you read all the buttons and switches/dash on the full sim modules? How is the draw distance. Thinking about buying the vive or oculus just for this game probobly like a lot of people, would like to hear someones experience with either of these headsets.

Same here! I'm waiting to buy a VR dedicated only for DCS, and update my computer accordingly. I skipped on buying a new screen, new gfx card etc for more than one year because I want to make sure everything works well with the VR headset, as this will be my standard setup for simming.

Windows 10 - Intel i7 7700K 4.2 Ghz (no OC) - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8Gb - 16GB DDR4 (3000 MHz) - SSD 500GB + WD Black FZEX 1TB 6Gb/s

Are you from the future? Instead of asking what the CV1 is like can I ask you what CV2 is like? Joking apart, from what I've heard is like 480p and the screen door is 30% better. However, lots of people are complaining about a lens flare. So lens flare might have replaced screen door for been the most annoying thing.

Rift owners will let y'all know how it works just as soon as ED updates to the 1.3 runtime needed to use the CV1. ;)

Although we added Oculus 1.3 SDK support today, there are a number of areas we still plan to improve:

1- 2D loading screens

2- Object clipping at edge of view

3- Re-center key mapping

4- Xbox controller going into sleep mode

5- Improved hangar scene

We are getting closer though to what we feel will be a good DCS World implementation in the Rift.

Thanks

Thanks for not holding it back until fully complete. It's great we are now rift flyable again.
