64 coming not soon enough, way overdue

64-bit is already here. The question is whether to continue supporting 32-bit or not...

Best regards,

Tango.

Yes it is.

As more people will vote, i'm 200% sure it will NOT shift towards more 32-bit anymore then it is now. And even when you double that 32-bit score, the outcome will be +/- the same. When i made my first comment, you had one vote for 32-bit, now you have 3 but the % still stays 98,17% in favor of 64-bit, just like it did back then... 32-bit is becoming a waste of time.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Not long ago, a speaker of the Russian Parlament said "The Parlament is not a place for discussions."

That is encouraging.

Which version of DCS do you run (32-bit or 64-bit)?

If you run both, please select 32-bit.

Please note that your answer will directly affect the direction of current and future 3rd party product development for DCS:World.

I run Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. But you do know it will run BS1 and FC2 also in 32 bit mode, re: Program Files (x86)? I have all the installations, except CA, on my machine and there are still servers up that cater to BS1 and FC2, especially in China >>> ping is rather a wee bit high.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war room. :D

But seriously, to whatever end, let's keep it on topic.

Just to be clear...people 32 bit versions will continue to work.....they simple wont be able to up grade further... Right?

Do you work in the Government as a statistician? "We surveyed 100 members of the Black party and they all supported the banning of the Red party. We extrapolate this 100% result to suggest that even members of the Red party support the banning of the Red party".

Get a life Tango. You'll see that i'm right when you close the poll.

What do you expect? Shifting it to 80% in favor for 32-bit?

There are various polls with the same topic around here on the forum (the entire forum) and they all show +/- the same result. If you then look on the internet for the same, you will find the same.

But hey... it's your poll... have fun gazing at the numbers...

Do you know what I find soooo funny? That everyone has the bizarre idea that I'm somehow trying to defend or support 32-bit platforms.

Hey - don't let me get in the way of your misguided ideas about what I may or may not being trying to accomplish. It's hilarious.

There was already a poll about who is running 32 or 64bit os, but what's wrong with him? He has the right to get a fresh poll if he wants just to get information. You guys are really abrasive...

Given that English is one of the most spoken languages in the world, I'd say there was a more than likely chance that many of the 1800 readers of the thread so far were not native English speakers. ;)

It's only pointless if ED make the next version 64-bit only. Will they? They're certainly not going to give me their sales stats, so I have to find out using other methods.

Make that 1800 views instead of readers... every time someone visits this topic, the view count goes up. How many times did you checked in here since you started it? 100? 200?

I don't expect you to understand this, but what it is deciding is a couple of things. The first, whether to support 32-bit at all. The reason for my other question about OS determines whether I use the latest SDKs or whether I use older SDKs to maintain backwards compatibility.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/hh852363

If you read the links, you can see I can even drop support for Windows Vista SP2 (note that SP2 is a specific requirement for compatibility - SP1 or Gold are NOT supported in the SDK).

If the resulting app supports Windows Vista SP2 as well as Windows 7 and Windows 8, set the Preprocessor Definition named _WIN32_WINNT to 0x600. If it only supports Windows 7 and Windows 8, set it to 0x601.

Dropping it is that simple.

So... if you think my questions are trivial, think again. I'm one compiler option away from dropping even Vista (both 32- and 64-bit versions) from the list of supported operating systems for the products I'm working on.

I haven't even mentioned Windows XP (again both 32-bit and 64-bit) yet...

These questions are not so trivial as many seem to think.

Best regards,

Tango.

Shouldn't you poll about what OS people are using then? I'm still scratching my head over what it is you are actually trying to achieve with this.

I think everyone is moving to 64bit... not only that the 3rd option is absent and it is suppose to use "people from that party" to 32bit argument but the question in the poll is misleading and the answer will be used in wrong direction.

So what if one has 32bit? (ok... 7) Ask him the whole question:

"Do you have 32bit and plan to use it even one year from now?" Cause you will release your module minimum one year from now rest assure.

Now see the relevance of the first question.

Same applies for "32 and 64" party.

"Do you use 32 and 64 bit? If so, do you use the 32bit for what purpose? Testing for compatibility? If so, please vote 64. Do you have a laptop that you plan to change it in one year? If so please vote 64."

and for this bunch you need to ask a further question:

"If you use 32 and 64 would you like that your vote for both to be used as a motive for keeping backward compatibility and to generally mess up everyone else game play?"

That is my feed-back on topic on this poll and I voted 64. Thank you.
