Is there any way to penalize people who do taxiway takeoffs ..... someone ran up my back a few days ago ..... it was included in the brief that this is not allowed .

 

The only reason I can see for this action being allowed , is if your runway is damaged ..... but how to settle this is beyond me .

 

I admit I have done this when I first started and was new to FC2 , and didn't appreciate the rules ..... but not any more .

 

Ideas anyone ?

Put trucks on the taxi-way to slow down the planes.

Is there any votekick or voteban feature implemented in DCS-MP? Other than that I really don´t know, but at least it´s simple.

Even in DCS there are griefers...

What about those poles that pop up out the ground at the end of the taxiway if someone tries to go onto the wrong end of the runway :P

Actually you could really do this with trucks :) trigger them so that if a player unit has speed more than 100km/h around the base, the trucks start driving wildly across the taxiways. That'l teach them :pilotfly:

Traffic, program, trucks to do laps around the taxiways w/ gaps between them to allow a player to taxi.

is easier to live with it than complicate the mission with further triggers and moving units.

That's silly. What does that have to do with clients that take part in a MP mission?

 

Ounce of prevention is worth a pound... put those trucks in! (great idea) Make them immortal as they will surely become targets to the TK dumb-dumbs.

 

While you mission builders are at it, use some imagination when it comes to weather and time of day.

I created some mission editor logic that will create an engine failure in taxi way take offs ... Wasn't hard at the time as it recognized any ac in zone moving at take off speed and blew their engine... I don't have the miz file now as I reformatted but it's an easy fix

If there was a rectangular trigger [not a round one] then we could have it over the taxiways..

Here's a test mission I just whipped up, I'm fairly sure something like this has already been tried along time ago.

 

Anyway, the triggers are simple, one trigger zone covers the entire airfield (taxiways and all) and then multiple ones cover the runway.

 

The trigger activates when you going faster than 30m/s (100km/h-ish), lower than 60 feet and inside the large airfield zone and outside any and all of the runway zones.

Simply put, it checks that you at the airfield, on the ground, not on the runway and doing more than 100Km/h.

 

Once triggered, it deactivates you and sends you a message.

 

Seems to be working in single player (there are two client slots, so you could test in multiplayer) I know there's been issues with deactivating other players in multiplayer before, If deactivation doesn't work then you could try explosions or failures.

Although that would most definitely create craters all over the taxi-ways.

Instead of setting an instant explosion, set a flag. Then when they clear the airbase they explode and get a message.

I like this idea .... haven't a clue on how to do it though . Be nice to hear from some ED members about it though .

Just run a switched condition trigger on a small zone that only covers the width of the taxiway... set a flag for condition "unit's speed higher than 50knts" and "unit's altitude lower than 10 meters" (just so that you don't blow up a guy doing an innocent fly past).

 

Then your next trigger would be on the condition that your flag was set to true and make the action "explode unit."

 

Each aircraft would need to have this cloned for it- and you'd need to set an independent flag for each one (otherwise one guy would try to take off on the taxiway and blow up everyone.)

 

It's a rough way to do it but if I were going to implement that, that's what I might do.

Yes... I've been REALLY enjoying Speed's SLMOD as well for this task. Get some guys you trust in there as admins (really, really easy to set up) and trust their judgment when they kick or ban someone.

 

Saved our server, that's for sure.

The problem with exploding a unit is it will leave debris where they were killed at.

 

 

Ah! But then I guess you add in your "time since flag x" as about 120 seconds!

Don't know bout SLmod, but cant you votekick someone out as a player?

 

Possible whit Servman, as well as other things.

Unfortunately hardly anyone knows that.

 

 

That's why I like SLMOD... it's actively supported and because few people know about votekick... having that pool of regular guys in your server with admin priviledges- they can just kick or ban when the time comes.

 

In addition what I've found myself doing is auditing the chat logs for team hits.That way if someone slips through I can just ban their ucid and that way I don't have to worry about seeing them in there again. It doesn't catch EVERYONE- but it does a pretty great job overall.

 

I have a pool of about 8-10 guys who have the admin priviledges and my trust to do what is necessary. There's always one or two of them kicking around when the server is busy so its well taken care of.

Only one small issue, to make non circular trigger zones, I used really really big triggers that intersect over the airport. When you look at these triggers in the ME you can see that DCS does not refine the arcs of the circle, so you can't actually see the real edge of the trigger zones. This makes it difficult to precisely position the edge, so the version of this mission that is currently uploaded will punish runway takeoffs too. But it shows that the concept works.
