Headspace Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 As I recall, the last guy who posted on the forum claiming to be a real A-10 pilot (retired) turned out to be legit.
Snoopy Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Nope but I'm not gonna make a judgement he could just be busy. My only concern was how the community "gravitates" to those with real world experience and I'd hate for bad info to be given. I will say I don't know many Fellow crew chiefs who would say "US Armed Forces" perspective. As I recall, the last guy who posted on the forum claiming to be a real A-10 pilot (retired) turned out to be legit. He was but he also gave info on his background. Again, crew chiefs by trade DO NOT know how to work the various avionics systems unless we spend time digging into Tech Data. We have specialists who work avionics, they're the experts. Robert1983NL Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 So this guy must be an absolute poser then, if he already says it's gonna take hours tonight, and there'll be follow on lessons. Should be funny :)
Headspace Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 My only concern was how the community "gravitates" to those with real world experience and I'd hate for bad info to be given. It works the same way in the ArmA community and other "serious games" communities, even with regard to people who weren't even infantry to begin with. There's a desire to be "legit" in some way or another. But you know my position. Since this is gaming the whole gameplay enhancement => fun thing comes first, for me. If stuff has to be slightly unrealistic then so be it. A lot of subject matter in aviation is excruciatingly boring until you really, really need to know about it.
Snoopy Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 What I meant is outright incorrect information. Again, I never said anything about him being fake simply asking his history more to see if we've crossed paths in our career. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
ishtmail Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Still plenty of time to see if it's legit, as 7:00 pm PT is several hours away. Also, Zoolander64 never wrote that HE HIMSELF would do the lecture. In fact, if you read his post, you can see that he will sit it out with the rest of us virtual pilots, so he may only be organizing this event. While I understand the skepticism (the guy did only register on this forum today and only has 1 post), it might be wise to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. All the info is in the flight manual. Don't think a crew chief could tell you any more than that.

dave4002000 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Here's what i make of this situation. If he's going to talk about aircraft systems and general crew chief duties. Then that's fine. It might be interesting for some people. If, on the other hand, he's going into this as a self-proclaimed expert on combat employment of the A-10 just because he's a crew chief. I wouldn't waste my time. Seeing as you posted a couple pictures Paul, i'll add this one. You might get a laugh out of it. USAF Bomber Avionics Specialist, Ret. Why dismissing something as useless if you haven't even heared it? At least a crew chief is closer to the sources of first hand knowledge than us "mere mortals". And that probably complements the theoretical knowledge that all of us has access to.

Deadman Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Guys it is just a nice bunch of guys getting together for a basic class. The Crew chief has a passion for the hobby and has payed attention and as Paul does asked the right questions to people that know in the real work. So IMHO guys running a basic class tonight and was gracious enough to offer an open invitation to the form, Good people it seams night https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

Robert1983NL Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Do you have something against Crew Chiefs? No, ofcourse not, but it just doesn't make sense when a crewchief says he'll teach us about avionics. Doesn't make sense at all.

At least a crew chief is closer to the sources of first hand knowledge than us "mere mortals". And that probably complements the theoretical knowledge that all of us has access to. Us mere mortals.... lol, seriously? I myself probably know more about most systems in the A10C than a crew chief. Do you really think a crew chief is some kind of god? Come on dude... stop worshipping and get back into reality. So... was it any good? Not many reactions. I wonder what's been said and done, would like to see a recording.
