Hey all :)

So I'm big into Flight Sims, but can't afford the full cockpit setups and such. But I do have a good computer, a large single monitor, nice controls (stick, throttle, rudder pedals), and a track IR. I'm very happy with how it all works out. The one thing I have wished for, though, is an easier way to activate controls in the cockpit than what you can with a mouse. I've looked at the setups using a 2nd touch monitor and moving control panels there and such, but it's both costly and a bit complicated (I have no problem with complicated, but costly on the other hand).

I remember when the Leap Motion device first surfaced a year or so ago. It looked nifty, lots of cool things to do with it. I went ahead and pre-ordered one, because it wasn't that expensive for what it does, especially when you compare it to the price of a Kinect.

I'm not sure why it's taken so long, but today it just suddenly clicked. Forgive the "OMG", but holy cow....I'm picturing myself looking around the cockpit with my track IR, and reaching out and clicking buttons without needing a touchscreen monitor, or even having to touch (and dirty up) my screen ! Will it work as I envision ? Not sure, but I sure as heck can't wait to find out.

And yes, it's precise. Here's a link so everyone can check it out. Anyone else think this might be a frugal, easy, awesome addition to the Flight Sim world ?

I have 3 Leap Motions on pre-order. Once they arrive, I will give them a thorough workout in DCS and report my findings. :)

Since the release for the Leap Motion is coming up, has anyone got the dev kit and experimented with it in dcs?

I think it would work simple enough with the virtual cockpit. We stil have the pointer on screen to show where we are pointing and need some simple jestures for left and right click as well as mouse wheel up and down.

Not tried the dev kit, but I have a leap on pre-order.

I have been on the forums looking around and asking questions. Mainly will it do mouse emulation and left and right click, and the answers is yes it will so far.

Looking forward to trying it out and if it works well I hope it will be a good companion from Oculus Rift when that arrives

I filled out an application to get a dev kit and never heard from them. We'll see what happens when they release, but it definitely seems intriguing.

I'm having a hard time believing that it'll work in a way that's actually functional enough to be able to press buttons like you'd want to given the 3D space and no real visual cue as to where anything is in the cockpit but it'd be interesting to play with either way.

At the very least you could make some fairly complex gestures that made it feel somewhat like you were touching stuff.

I just hope it simply emulates the mouse so we can move the yellow cross in DCS and then left and right click.

They have started shipping so hopefully will not have to wait to long to find out.

I certainly think it has potential when paired up with an Occulus Rift. I'll let you know next month when mine turns up. :)

This is what I hope would work. The yellow cross as a visual reference to where you are pointing. A left click could be as simple as breaking a plane in 3d space to emulate a button press.

I pre ordered but I keep getting emails saying that my info isn't complete. I keep editing it and updating it, but they keep coming back. I'm a little suspicious they will cancel my order because my info was 'wrong' but really they have more pre orders than stock.

I only received one of those, didn't do anything with it as my info was correct.

Might be worth contacting them just in case, but if all your info is ok. I'm sure it will be fine.

I would assume you are in the queue. Assuming they ship 'first order, first ship', it might be a little while before yours ships. I ordered mine many moons ago.

I'm really interested in leap motion, more so than Oculus Rift.

fwiw it's available for pre order on amazon.co.uk for £69.99. Cheaper than buying it direct, plus there will be no customs charges for us guys in Europe.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C66Z9ZC/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0BD077HBZ2EJMB1T72Q1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=358549767&pf_rd_i=468294

True but here in the UK I have never paid FedEx any customs charges the reason is they are trying to avoid paying it themselves as confirmed by my accountant as their invoice reads Payment for administration and handling not Customs and Revenue collection which my accountant challenged them on at which point they waved the charges on 3 occasions strange that.
