empeck Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Merging install is probably like asking IL-2 1946 to be merged with CloD :D I mean older jet version with new WWII version . I guess it ain't gonna happen :music_whistling: Cheers, HG Wrong. Both DCS: World and DCS: WW2 will use exactly the same engine, only thing different will be content that is compatible with both of them. Edited September 2, 2013 by empeck
St3v3f Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Not thrilled about the WW2 stuff as I am not interested in old warbirds, but having a European theater would be exiting aka: Baron [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
HolyGrail_FxFactory Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 PS CloD was merged with 1946 basically after almost all shiny graphical features were cut off by patches :) . A great response thx ! Yep , it feels like , L.O.L. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.youtube.com/user/championfx
sylkhan Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Expanding to meet the needs of others that like that era of planes.. Open your mind a little more. Do you remember the old bad days of multiples intalls of DCS DCSKA50, DCSa10, FC patching one, waiting some months for the other to be patch to be compatible online and so on... Now imagine multiple install of DCS, and the potentials problems in the futur... DCSW was design to avoid all this.
HolyGrail_FxFactory Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Wrong. Both DCS: World and DCS: WW2 will use exactly the same engine, only thing different will be content that is compatible with both of them. " DCS WWII: Europe 1944 will boast an all-new EDGE landscape engine, as well as many new and updated features " Oh , I thought they've said that WWII will feature a newer updated version of the game engine  Edited September 2, 2013 by HolyGrail_FxFactory [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.youtube.com/user/championfx
OttoPus Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Great and exciting news, and I find the splitting in two DCS:World and DCS:WWII on a "time period basis" idea perfectly logical. Way to go!

zaelu Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Oh , I thought they've said that WWII will feature a newer updated version of the game engine  EDGE will be made primarily for DCS World (ED World). Nevada being the first map to benefit fully of it. I hope something can be inherit by Kuban/Georgia map but... will see. I also am sure the game could launch both graphical engines which also calls rather for keeping it unified than split. Royraiden Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Perhaps in the futur we will see DCSW DSCWW2 DCSWW1 DCS Choppers DCS vietnam era DCS... Serioulsy... What is the point of DCS world then? If that did happen, what is the BIG deal? Im sure by reading some post that they might be some fair and legitimate concerns about the matter, but from other posts, for example the one Im quoting, the problem seems to be a simple label/classification or grouping. By the way for the person that replied to me mentioning the ME 262,my mistake , I forgot to add the word "modern". To me DCS biggest asset is the realism, yet some people are complaining about this issue, stating that not having a A-10 on WW2 era map would be a problem.Really? In the same way a Mustang doesnt belong along side an A-10, an A-10 doesnt belong alongside a 1944 scenario Mustang. I dont want to sound disrespectful to anyone, just sharing my opinion.Im new here and I realize most of you have been with DCS for a while.I came in after the mustang was released and as soon as I flew it I could only imagine a proper WW2 scenario for it to let lose alongside its contemporaries. Thanks to Luthier and co. and of course to DCS that scenario is on its way, so Im fine with the which ever approach they take regarding the issue, just as long as I can get a WW2 air combat sim going on given the multiplayer aspect of it matches what we have been used to before. sylkhan Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Now who has a closed mind.. Is it so hard to understand potential management problems of many installs. Why do you think ED merge all modules in DCSW.
Merlin-27 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I have to say, it is a great thing to see this passion and people so protective over the sim they love. I feel the same way and I want DCS to truly achieve the incredible potential it has. My first comment is this: ED/RRG have to gear their product to an extent to "marketing metrics." It's a matter of survival. And we all need this to occur...despite what you think you may want. While I commend everyone for insisting on quality and fidelity, certain decisions are based off chances of success and risk mitigation. As has been said in prior posts, very delicately I must add, if the financial backing of this entire endeavor was dependent upon only the contributions of our devoted forum members, this project wouldn't have a chance. Funding is required and it has to be generated in a wide scope. Please try to be aware of the big picture while expressing "the love of the game". At the same time, I believe the forum is an invaluable tool for the developers to use in fine tuning the World to help make it run at its best. Of course we want it all, but like most things in life we should be happy to find a happy middle ground that keeps this effort moving forward and helps the genre stay far from extinction. I'm not talking about compromise as much as facing reality. Personally, I think the division of World and 1944 can work. I do agree there needs to be a common interface that displays what that specific user has purchased; World, 1944, or Both. And ideally, any differences in file structure or arrangement of data should be transparent to the average customer. Revision and configuration control will be crucial. I came here to try the A-10 & I stayed here because of the P-51D. I want very much to stretch it's legs in a true WWII environment. The key thing that I think we all want is expansion without compromise. That is a very tricky notion and there is not one piece of software I'd like to see succeed more than this one. hegykc Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I have many ground units available for WW.II era. All of them are aligned and tested for DCSW, Combined arms. Has their accurate own weapon characteristic as well. If you need need some of them later on or cooperation or whatever just send me a PM. :smartass: This!! It all sounds rather over ambitious to me. I'd love to see this be achieved in single year. But i won't be holding my breath. You'd be surprised to see what one can achieve when not working underneath a group of financial decision makers that have abolutely no knowledge or interest in what you are making in the first place. Yourself/team being the only thing standing between you and success/profit can be an incredible incentive and motivation. And a question for Luthier: Since your team is a 3rd party developer, would it make DCS WWII world open for 4th party content? If a team decides to make a study level plane, that's not on your list, would it be compatible with your world? www.replikagear.com
Double_D Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Is it so hard to understand potential management problems of many installs. Why do you think ED merge all modules in DCSW. And how quickly we forget all the updates, that have created modules problems here and there..while they fix one module problem it creates another problem to another module..I understand your concern..but why should WWII ear members be punished for DCS World errors with other modules..in that era..instead of having limit issues with one group you are putting all the eggs into one big problem..so now everyone has issues... Separation I feel will eliminate everyone from having to deal with issues not related to their flight era..and from enjoying themselves.. Raven68 Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 The great idea and the progress was DCSW, one intall, one core game, with multiple modules. Two installs isn't a progress. Now who has a closed mind.. I wouldn't call it a closed mind. This was the path ED took to bring all products together and it has been working well so far. I guess that means I am favoring one install with the current modular approach also. I'm sure ED and RRG Studios will work it out to make it seamless which ever route they take. Double_D Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I refer to the core game bugs Fair enough  But I do feel the separation is a good thing for everyone..remember all the server list problems and everyone's server crashing( core related )..so separation I believe would eliminate these issues with the different era's if DCS WWII has server issue's it won't relate to DCS World...and so on... [TABLE][/url][sIGPIC]http://forums.eagle.ru/signaturepics/sigpic89949_15.gif[/sIGPIC][/Table] Recruiting for Aerobatic Team/Fighter Group...
