HarSu Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi to everybody! I think it is time to start the HarSu´s A-10C cockpit building thread. First of all, I have to thank ALL of you guys for being so much inspiring for me to start this whole project at all... Special thanks to Duckling, Oakes, y2kiah and Gadroc. It is nice to see what you guys have done with your own cockpits, and that has give me a lot of ideas and inspiration. Ok let's start. So, I had this little thing called "cockpit" for a while. In there was it's own seat, throttle and control stick...(I played Falcon 4.0 at those times) and I was very pleased for that setup for long, long time. Then I found DCS A-10C. And I ordered one OpenCockpit's card to improve my cockpit.... But when the card arrived, I did not have any time to do anything with my cockpit. (family issues) At this period of time the game was changed to DCS-WORLD, and so I think that I was F****D... And my expensive OC card was worthless.... But.... There was some guy from Sweden, who help me out of this situation, and gave me trust to build my own cockpit. (Thanks Gus!) OK, that enough for that, so let's start.... First I like to show you a little peek of my upcoming cockpit. Here is few pictures of it. I'll get back to my cockpit (more photos), after I get finished my ACES II look a like Ejection seat. And maybe it's good time to say now, that I'm not intent to building equal replica of the seat, just something that looks and feels good, but so much alike than it is possible with my resources. :( I do not have any CNC machines in my use, so all of my constructions are handmade. I use chipboard, fiberboard and lot,lot filler. Here you go... "ACES II" Here is what this all start (started 31.7.2013) It looks like spice rack... Here is something for parachute container.... And here I did make some sort of mistake with angle of "container" now it is correct. ( I think?) Starts to look like a chair... A little improvement. Hmm... Ejection handles painted. Hmm... Back of the seat.. Well, I think I can get the seat "finished" at this weekend, but there is so much to do with the details.... I'll be back.... HarSu.
Sabre-TLA Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Well done! Keep at it. It will be well worth it in the end. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates

HarSu Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Hi! Thanks for the nice words to everybody! That keeps me motivated at this project... Well, I did get the paint job finished at last weekend, and carry the seat at to my cockpit. It turned out, that it was just perfect fit... :smartass: There is still one good question, that I don´t know. WHAT IS THE RIGHT SPOT for the seat? :helpsmilie: I found this picture, and I think I´m gonna make it like it shows. However, the seat height might be whatever so it does not give me any answer. My purpose was send some pictures to you, but my ejection handle mechanism turned out faulty. There is one ferrule that don´t hold, it loose little by little when the right side handle is pulled( Left side works fine) I´ll fix it tomorrow, so I can get back to details of my seat. Well, here is one photo of my seat in strange position... More to come, stay tuned ! HarSu.

HarSu Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Hello to everybody! A little progress... I just finished the seat cushions, as you can see I´m not very good with sewing machine. The cushion is little too narrow, but I can live with that, and I'm very proud of myself.:music_whistling: The seat fit like a glove in my pit, maybe it is little too close of consoles if you compare it to real one. But I hope that my seat don´t fly anywhere when I pull the ejection handle. I think I get my seat finished in couple of weeks. i´m gonna do my parachute harness rolls next week in my real life work, so I can put my seatbelt assembly to it´s place. Oh. One thing. Can somebody tell me the diameter of the oxygen bottle?:helpsmilie: Couple pictures of my cockpit. I have to start to build some "flesh" around my cockpit that it wont look so bald... I'll be back.... HarSu.
Sabre-TLA Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 I picked one up on Ebay a while back. Diameter measures out at 15.3cm Length is 34cm (from bottom of bottle to top of regulator where black hose starts). The green bottle itself is about 28cm and regulator is about 6cm. Hope this helps. HarSu Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Thanks Sabre-TLA. That is just what I need. HarSu.
HarSu Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Hi to all. Little update to my oxygen bottle... Here´s some stuff what I use to build it.. I have one old silicone tube and the red ball what is stuck in to tube is some old wooden ball. Some kind of filler, and then there is soda bottle upper section, that is waxed from inside with normal car wax. (to avoid the filler to get stuck in to a soda bottle, it is kind of mold to upper section of the bottle) Here is the picture of the "mold" with filler. And here what it turned out (Pretty good, I think. Just a little sanding and it´s fine) Uhh. The bottle looks pretty good, but the painting is quite blurry, there might be some wax left on surface....(1000 sandpaper couple of time and repaint so it should be fine) Gauge is from some old fire extinguisher that needs new background... HarSu.
Sabre-TLA Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Good job! Looks great and 10x cheaper than what I bought. I can't wait to see what you are going to do next! MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates

HarSu Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Hi to all! And thanks for the nice words... again. Not much improvement, cause I'm confused of the ballistic hoses of Aces II A-10 version seat. There is hundreds of different pictures that I have seen and there are some differences. For example. Here is picture from KLaFaille, on Flickr And here is another one from Ejectionsite.com http://www.ejectionsite.com/anon1/A10ACESrt.jpg As you can see the KLaFaille photo shows the ballistic hose on the right side of the seat than Ejectionsite.com´s picture shows anything on that side??? Can anyone confirm what is the official thing with these hoses? Is there both side hoses in A-10 seat?:helpsmilie: Two pictures of the seat... nearly ready.:music_whistling: HarSu.
Deadman Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 The ACES II picture on the ejection sit are quite old in fact. There are now two ballistic hoses and disconnects on the A-10C ACES II ejection seat http://www.moody.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123189368 http://www.moody.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/100203-F-5271W-003.jpg https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Dropship Pilot Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I came across these fittings, that are very colse to the original ones: ebay #170945529544 Not exactly cheap, but available in quantity. Cheers, DSP
Deadman Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) 4 times that price for a complete set makes it a very pricey set of connectors plus the price of the T for the left side you can spend over $100.00 pretty quick.
