Wags update: F-15C: DCS Flaming Cliffs Update

Airshow Demo's aren't always 100% accurate, or representative of combat capabilities.

They can have limits applied for safety reasons, among other things.

Like F-22s for a while were not allowed to exceed 6Gs, even in Tactical Demonstrations.

Though, I’ve seen F-16s do some VERY Tight Minimum Radius turns, the thing just corners, it’s not even funny.

F-16 vs F-22 in a Minimum Radius turn is like comparing a Ford Mustang to a Honda CRX,

They are in a completely different weight class.

Even if they both have 1.0+ T:W Ratio

F-22 weighs more than Two Times the F-16 does.

Thrust Vectoring can only do so much, but against a fight half your size with a better LEX Design

Nice vid! Wonder how far out the F-15C is on that list and I have to believe vectored thrust gives something to the F-22. The deeper wing should improve maneuverability as well.

The F-15 has insane cornering g (it can sustain more g than the fuselage can take), but it's 21dps since it's at relatively high speed. AoA for the F-15 can be up to 55 units controllable IIRC.

It won't turn as tight or as fast as the other three under the same circumstances, but it's nothing to sneeze at.

And they do. If you read the aerobatics docs for F-22's, they're fairly restricted.

Yes, and it weighs more than two times the EF, yet it comes out even in fair guns only engagements with. The TW ratio describes how much power you have to overcome inertia.

Thrust vectoring isn't even in danger of being used in these demonstrations. The F-22 could just kick into it's constant 60deg AoA and 'win' that way ;)

In any case, 'min radius turn' is not the same as 'fastest possible turn'. So, what's being compared in the video?

60deg AoA? Could it sustain that or would it be bleeding speed?

The F-22 is quoted to 60 deg AoA sustained, the F-35 around 50 deg.

Condisering the shape of the wing and the drag it must create at that AoA, that's really impressive.

Actually, I've thought about and I should make a clarification:

This is sustained AoA, not sustained speed. It would probably bleed speed until equilibrium and then sustain 60 deg AoA at low speed.

I see. Well there are a lot of ways to describe how a jet performs in a turn. I remember thinking this was an interesting video on cornering speed: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2a.htm

Impossible.

If you zip a coffee, you still have instant coffee. Fits perfectly with every eMail-Provider. Once you unzip it by adding water, you have coffee again.

Same is for milk.

But how do you zip a Sandwich? I'm pretty sure a footlong sandwich is too much for my account.

I made an airshow video of it ;)

I think these are min radius turns and the vipers light but what ever way you look at it the F-16 can really crank a 360 turn!

HBlP4cCRVmk

The F-16 has a cornering speed of 330-440kts but the F/A-18E has other moves it can do in that video it appears the F/A-18E is flying a faster turning speed compared to what its capable of which is a pirouette at lower speeds. The F22 will out turn both the F/A-18E and F-16 IMO because of the TVN.
