Zeev Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Hi. I have Flaming Cliffs 3 + Black Shark 2. There is a sale on Huey and Mi8. I am playing mostly the single player. I want a module which has more campaign and single missions. Thanks!
Cibit Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Huey is arguably the more finished module and fun with the AI gunners in 1.2.7 The Hip for me is favourite. It takes a bit more care to learn the flight dynamics and IMHO is more challenging. Both are great and before Hip was released the huey was my favourite. Get both;) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
Jona33 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 The huey has a few single missions and I think a 12 mission campaign, I'm not sure about the Hip though. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Nybble Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I would decide on one based on the helo itself, not how many missions are included, as there is a heap of downloadable missions / campaigns anyway. I would take the Huey if you are after a zippy little chopper that's highly maneuverable but lacks top speed, and the Mi-8 if you want a heavier one that can reach higher speeds. Justo Swank Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 The Huey is quite an easy module (to start anyway), even easier than the P-51. But though I own the Mi-8, I have not yet flown it, as I am waiting on my new flight equipment. But tbh, it is your personal preference. I rather like Russian helicopters, and aviation in general, so I rather like the Mi-8.
Suchacz Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 It doesnt matter, after you will try one, you will buy the other sooner or later :D Per aspera ad astra! 159th_Falcon Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Judging from your post you would want a Huey then. But i don't think you will be disappointed whit either of them. Mi-8 lacks a campaign at this point, Huey has one campaign. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)

lmp Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Get the Huey now and the Hip in the next sale ;). The Hip is my favorite too, but the Huey is more finished and has more content.

Im not that interested in cargo choppers but the huey is a perfect trainer for the shark. you can perfectly train your coordination and precision. I mostly fly the shark and benefit a lot from flying the huey! :matrix: =SPEED IS LIFE=:matrix: http://www.planeandpilotmag.com/speed-is-life.html

Where can I download single player missions (good ones) for Flaming Cliffs 3 and Black Shark 2?
Leviathan Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 For example here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/ on the ED website user file section. File type: "Single mission" in the filter. Or take a look in the forum section "Missions and Campaigns".
Rotorhead Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I agree with Watari that Huey is great for training. It has no autopilot, no SAS or whatever, just collective and cyclic - just pure helicopter dynamics. After the initial struggle, you will find yourself much more proficient in both Mi-8 and Ka-50, both of which utilize some form of artificial stabilization. So yes, grabbing UH-1 first may be a good idea, but generally, both choppers are really nice. I personally prefer the Mi-8, because I have a thing for heavier choppers, and I like Russian hardware more anyways, but it might be just me. You won't surely make mistake buying any of them, and as also said above, you will end up having both sooner or later. ;)
WildBillKelsoe Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 the campaigns are an issue of time only. IMO, huey offers more dynamics and a cibit said, it is closer to the finish line. she's also a challenge but AFAICT (!) both are challenging. you will never fly the shark again except to quench a solitary thirst for shortage of tank busting.... forget automations... huey is 100% manual flight, dunno about hip though. Justo Swank Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Get the Huey now and the Hip in the next sale ;). The Hip is my favorite too, but the Huey is more finished and has more content. No telling when the next sale will be. May as well pick them both up for the price of one.
skouras Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 get the Huey i have it since day 1 and i love it the HIP is great but the Huey is classic [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]W10(64bit)Asus Rog Strix Z370-F - i7 8700K - Dark Rock Pro 4 - 16 giga ram Corsair vengeance 3000 - MSI RTX 2070 Super - Asus Rog Phobeus soundcard - Z906 Surround speaker - Track ir5 - HOTAS Warthog
Leviathan Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Keep in mind though, that both modules (Huey and Hip) are among the hardest to master of the DCS series. Flying helicopters is a lot harder than flying airplanes in terms of aerodynamics and thus motor skills and hand-eye coordination. So don't expect to jump in either one of them and learn them to fly perfectly within a few hours. It needs practice! But if you are up to the challenge, get any one of those (or both) and have a good time! (Belsimtek makes DCS really strong in the rotary wing branch, best helicopter simulations that I know of)
javelina1 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I initially went with the Huey, when given the choice of buying just one chopper module... but with these doggone sales, I ended up buying the Mi-8 as well. I loved the Huey so much, I figured what the heck, can't go wrong with getting the Mi-8. :music_whistling: MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control
Darkwolf Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Well - more easy. Flip a coin. Pick one randomly. I can guarantee you will buy the other one anyway... more likely sooner than later. esb77 Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I don't think I've flown the Huey since I got the Mi-8 module. On the other hand the Huey startup screen has the best music of all of the DCS modules. Or at least the music that suggests, "Damn, we're gonna have fun up there today!" Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes. I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.
