I've had quite a bit of success with either radar or boresight. The main key is distance. 5nm is the sweet spot and requires patience - F and M (tested mostly vs. Mig21, Mig23 can take longer shots) If you try to fire outside of this (outside of the concept of getting him defensive first), it's a low PK shot.

I had similar problems with my Crystal Light. My Rift S, Reverb G2 and Quest 3 headsets all did head trackng perfectly All sorts of light setups, qr codes, waving my hands in front of headset (actually works somewhat) really didnt make it better, and newer software updates made it unplayable It definately got worse over time, usually after 15 minutes I had to quit DCS I finally went to a lighthouse setup (2 HTC Vive BaseStation 1.0, HTC Vive controller (used) and Pimax Lighthouse faceplate) About $500 for everything...yes lots of $$ but the difference is DRAMATIC. Shame we have to spend this on a $$ headset With the lighthouse faceplate, the stock controllers dont work anymore if in lighthouse mode. The HTC Vive Controller is needed for room setup and centering the headset. You might be able to live without the controller but I use XRNS and without centering the headset with Controller, when I would look left or right using XRNS, the view would be from outside the airplane. You still need to center the headset thru DCS after centering it with controller.

Just a followup on the headtracking issues The elgato light worked very well for me for a few months. Sometimes though, it would get bad and simply waving a hand in front of the headset seemed to fix the issue. This was until a few months ago when a new pimax software update made it absolutely horrendous. Headtracking would be fine for like 15 minutes or so and would then get so bad, I couldnt play DCS anymore. It even went so far as changing my centered head position to all sort of funky places. I actually took a 1 month break and decided to go with a lighthouse setup which also required a different controller (I used a 'used' HTC Vive Controller) Lots of $$($200 for faceplate, $60 for controller and 2 HTC Vive Base Stations V1.0 ($200)) but I can actually play DCS now...smooth as silk now.

mabe you should try increasing the carrier's speed to 28 knots and sailing into the wind, while also setting the aircraft to a ramp start state in the mission editor instead of a runway takeoff.

No as I don't have access to the lua files in the F4E. They are encrypted with Jester 2.0, so the current metthod used with the F-14 can't be employed (this makes perfect sense for HB to do this given their investment in that IP). I do have another idea which is in works for passing DCS icommands, which would allow the passing of Jester 2.0 commands from their new API, this would also pick up George for the AH-64. But alas time is short at the moment as I have many RL commitments, so it's slow progress.

Yeah, I was actually using the GPT but I'm not sure it was prepared to deal with ESP32 variants with two USB C connectors and it never tried. I actually initially started using my Pi 3B as the listener and switched back to my main PC as I ran into problems. Related question: Is there a way to run CockpitOS on a headless Pi? The HID manager seems to require a desktop environment, which generally isn't how I'd use a Pi in my simpit or nearly anywhere for that matter. The current UI is fantastic and informative when setting up but something that works just on a command line would be ideal for daily usage. This is a fantastic project and I'm shocked it hasn't had more interest. There's another that I've been working on that is focused around the RP2350 and RP2040 by a user in the DCS BIOS discord and I'm genuinely surprised that interest in anything that isn't a Nano or a Mega seems non-existent.

From known stats a Mig-21 should out turn a F-4E Phantom. I have try to kill a F-4E with a Mig-21 with guns only. Every time I am about to get him on my sights the Ai seems to know when I am about to pull the trigger. He does an instantaneous turn at the right moment, and I miss. There is no way a human being can tell in a dogfight when to do that. The Ai does it every time repeatedly. Hopefully ED can change the behavior of the Ai to be more human. When I am at low six there is no way he can see me, especially in warbirds with no radar.
