I'd rather let someone from ED make comments and valuations on system specs since I'm just a beta tester (tricky to talk about this stuff without violating the NDA ya' know?). What isn't a mystery is that my system is about 3 years old, is a P4 3.4 (not overclocked) 2 GB of system RAM, and the video card is an BFG 6800GT PCIe (256MB). When I flew and recorded the video I would guess I got about a 20% reduction in FPS because of the FRAPS overhead...but as you can see, the video is still pretty smooth. Granted, there wasn't much going on. As I mentioned, I had most of the settings at MEDIUM (similar settings to what you see in Flaming Cliffs) and a few like "scenes" to HIGH. I'm not a real guru on what settings most affect FPS and where you can give and take..I just messed around and found a good mix that worked at 1280 x 1024 resolution. I think it is reasonable to assume that if I loaded up an airfield attack mission with 20 planes and helicopters zooming around blowing stuff up that my FPS would drop significantly. Then again, with this current rig, I couldn't max out Flaming Cliffs either..that sim I played with pretty much the same settings (MED mostly and some HIGH) as I'm playing Black Shark. I'm not a coder or a graphics or objects guy..so I can't tell you if in the development time that is left if FPS or optimization or whatever they call it will cause performance to go up or down or stay the same. As you can see from the Mod Team..who are doing unbelievable work...the airfields have more objects and look like real, inhabited places now. That doesn't come without a polygon price. The new trees, landscape textures, and pavement and apron graphics are really, really nice. They really help impart the feeling of low flight and (in my opinion) give a nice bit of depth perception and...uh..I guess I could call it "gritty realism". Things look a little dirty and smudged..stains on the ramp..exhaust marks. It just sort of feels really lived in. Ya'll will dig it..very good for helicopter ops... And I'm pretty enthused..(as you can tell) and I haven't even scratched the surface. Seriously - I haven't even armed the weapons panel or used the ABRIS yet! All I've done is start the thing and fly around a little. And I don't even know half the gauges or switches yet. There is a lot to discover... And I'll remind people that there is an EASY mode..so don't let my thoughts on the coolness of the complexity scare the "lite" simmers away. ;) Sorry 'bout the long response.. BeachAV8R1 point

Cheers To today I always tried to avoid example gunpods or rockets but I waould like to try it, but when I fire them I lost many FPS so often = crash. An suugestion how to fix it? I also can remove smoke when gun shell hit ground but dunno which file it is, so any suggestions how don't lost many FPS during gun or rockets firing? Thx! PS. in example Su27 cannon is all OK, I don't have any FPS lost.1 point

Yep..same problem for me. Actually, I *can* get them to work, but the problem is the collective axis is being reported as the little slider there under your thumb on the throttle. The cyclic works fine..and I actually learned to fly the helos using that little slider. By the way, the trick to getting the X52 to work *at all* in Vietnam MedEvac, for me, was to leave the controller unplugged until you start a mission, then plug it in right when it goes to the splash screen where it says the mission is loading. If I left my X52 plugged in, the controls would default to a diving left bank. The lack of controls mapping is a shame..and the fact that the UH-1 sounds like a Eurocopter Dauphin... ;) BeachAV8R1 point

Translation for you: The missile 48N6E2, is only for the naval variant of the S-300F "Fort". The carrier is the missile cruiser "Moscow". This is not really correct as the S-300F already IS the naval modification of the S-300 complex, there are no land based S-300F systems (just to clarify). Okay you capitalist pigs, read and learn the basics (the specifics are still classified). The first system of the S-300 line was the S-300PT system (S-300P, towed) which entered service in 1978, this used the 5V55 missile which emloyed a traditional radio command guidance. In this modde the missile flies to a predetermined point on autopilot, and once reaching that point the illumination and guidance radars begin to track the target and send guidance commands to the missile. The 5V55KD missile offers improved range and a semi-active guidance mode, this to inclease the accuracy (I assume you know the principes of semi0-active tracking). The 5V55R missile also employs semi-active guidance, but also has track via missile (TVM) guidance, in which both the coordinates of the missile and target are measured by the tracking and search radar on the ground, and then compared to the coordinates produced by the 5V55R missile. By comparing these three coordinates the system has a high jamming immunity. The development of the 5V55 missile started in the second half of the sixties and employed the most progressive technologies of the time. It has a solid fuel engine, operating for 8-10 seconds. Start mass of the 5V55KD: 1480 kg. Maximum range: 47km Start mass of the 5V55R: 1664 kg. Maximum range: 75km (other sources state 90 km) In the second half of the eighties the complex was modernised to S-300PT-1A S-300PS The S-300PS (self propelled version of the S-300P) entered service in 1982, the export version is known as the S-300PMU. It uses 5V55KD and 5V55R missiles S-300PMU1 Development began in 1985, in 1990 the first production started, entered Russian service in 1993. This one has enhanced engagement characteristics, targets travelling at up to 10000 km/h for target designation and 6450 km/h for engagement by the 48N6 missile (48N6E for export). Range for aerodynamic targets: 150 km Strategic cruise missile flying at 6-100m; 28-38 km. Ballistic missile: 40km. The 48N6 Single stage, single mode engine with a burn time of 12 seconds, maximum speed is 1900-2100 m/s, after the rocket has burned the missile coasts on inertia. Weight of comtainer+missile: 2580 kg, ejected missile weight: 1900 kg Warhead weight: 143 kg, missile length: 7.25 m S-300F The first concept work started in 1969, but had a lot of troubles, and the first test version was installed in 1977 on the "Azov", project 1134B class cruiser. The government tests were very slow, taking almost 6 years to finish. The testing ended in 1983 on the nuclear Kirov cruiser, and at the beginning of 1984 it entered service on pr. 1144 and 1164 classes. The nuclear powered 1144 class had the B-203A launchers, with two pairs of 6 drums with 8 missiles each (96 missiles total). And the pr. 1164 had the B-204 launchers with 2*4 drums (64 total), which is the 'Moscow' in lomac. Oh, the missiles used, oops... The naval version of the S-300 initially used the 5V55RM missile, which only differed from the 5V55R in terms of connectors with the container. Around 1990 the 48N6 entered service, and the complex was renamed to "Fort-M", the maximun distance was 150km, however, the designation system in 1993 only allowed for a maximum engagement range of 93 km. The 48N6 has a directional warhead (which creates a concentrated energy wave in one direction), for this the missile rolls in the direction of the target before detonation (to kill ballistic and high speed targets). Yeah, there is still the S-300V for the Army, but you know what, I'll write some facts. The testing was done in 1985-1986 and entered full service in 1988, the partial system, with the 9M83 missiles entered in 1983 though. 9M83: for planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles of the type "Sergeant" and "Lance". 9M84: for warheads of "Pershing-1A" and "Pershing-1B". Then some rambling about the radar systems, which is really interesting, but 3 pages long :(, so basically it detects the warheads of Pershing-1s at 175km, tracking at 140 km. Oh, my source: Encyclopedy of fatherlandish missile weapons 1817-2002 (litt.) by A.E. Taras, 2003. ISBN: 985-13-0949-4 So back to my question, where can we get models to enable the S-300V in lomac?1 point

:) No..you don't need a twist handle. I just meant the rotor speed decayed because I had accidentally turned something off while I was doing my hover taxiing. You get a beeping sound and a warning light as the rotor RPM falls.. When you land and let off some of the power the rotor RPM increases. I can't remember what I hit that caused the rotor RPM to fall off, but it must have been some key combo that did something to one of the engines. I remember I was either trying to get the info bar at the bottom of the screen off (Alt or Ctrl Y I think it was) OR I was hitting CTRL and the / and * to zoom in the view and missed a key and did something. So no worries..no twist grip needed..1 point

Alright..just verified it by going back into the FRAPS movies I had captured. Indeed the rotor shadows are affected by the speed of the rotor system. As a matter of fact, in the video posted with the preview, you can just barely see the rotor shadow near the helicopter..because near the center hub the rotors aren't going as fast as the mid point and tips. I found another video clip where I got a low rotor RPM warning and sure enough..as the rotors slowed the shadows showed up on the ground. So it is rotor speed dependent.. BeachAV8R1 point

Yeah..you know, I remember seeing a video a couple years back that the developers released of Flaming Cliffs and the Su-25T. I don't remember all of the details about it..but I remember it showed the -T taxiing around on the Kuznetsov and I remember seeing the struts compressing and it rolling backwards and the nose strut bouncing up and down..and I was impressed. The Ka-50 is the same way..very impressive. Wish I had included just a short segment of tilting the rotor back and forth on the ground so you could see the airframe rocking around and the struts moving and the rotor disk arcing in different planes. Very dynamic feeling.. BeachAV8R1 point

Game probably will be good, but I have to ask aobut this: You see EricJ sign. So example if I play with EricJ and I connect to his server, do I see this EricJ sign too, or it is again like in FC that these things aren't exist? Texts don't have to be "skin" type that could be transfered to other players, it is only few kilobytes I think.1 point

Def a must to read them... Also, a good map check to go with it not only can save one's ass but even work as an advantage when in sticky situations... Those who dont read the briefing are usually the first to be shot down by flying into nomans land, or they just get lost and consequently start to spam the chat for directions... and no, being a newbie isnt an exuse in this particular case either, i guess its all about flight discipline really... This just as well applies for example to those who start taking off from taxiways, when the server rules (written in the brief) strictly prohibit that... Ironic as it is, but I noticed many so called 'veterans' who say they've read the brief do exactly that and couldnt care less... My own opinion at least on this case is that many ppl tend to play this game just for the thrill of the quick kills, looking to create an airquake while missing the whole point of it entirely... and to be honest, in that situation who needs the brief anyway right? The fight is gonna look like a mad furball fest anyhow...1 point

The issue has been coming back and going away. Right now it seems to have gone away. I guess this is a sign of early drivers. Generally it performs the same as a 8800 since lomac doesn't support SLI (or so I've heard, naturally I have other games which were the reason for the upgrade). However if you are thinking about 9800 and don't play anything but lomac? Don't get 9800. Another issue is that it seems to randomly select 1 of 3 different performance levels on starting lomac. ^^. What I mean with that is that I made a reference mission. I put 100 tanks under my plane where I spawn, then I setup med/high with 4aa/4af 1920x1200 and check the fps. Sometimes I get (rarely): Menu ~400 fps, in pit ~90 fps (if it launches this mode I generally just restart the game) 90% of time in menu I get: ~670 fps, in pit ~105 fps rarely, but sometimes : menu ~ 950 fps, in pit ~140 fps It is like sometimes is launches different performance modes. It seems to launch with these 3 distinctly different levels. All three with no background processes and with identical nvidia control panel settings. This card seems to have very immature drivers ;). However those times it does launch "mode 3" (or whatever you want to call it) it seems to show some pretty insane fps ingame And oh yeah, Clouds look like this for some reason =/ it happens after every reboot. The only way so far to fix this seems to be clicking random buttons (no kidding) in the nv control panel and then clicking back to what it was as after the reboot. Totally wierd :)1 point
