  7. ~S~ Greetings and salutations, This post is to announce the release of a new Flash cockpit trainer for DCS:Blackshark. If you ever flew Falcon 4, then you are probably familiar with the cockpit trainer for that sim. This is very similar, but much more detailed. When you mouse over buttons, switches, and guages, a pop-up window will give a brief description of that item. Some items are clickable giving you an even more detailed description. This Cockpit Trainer was developed by a fellow War Hawks member, WH_Snacko, for our squadron Training Module. But once we saw the level of detail Snacko had put into this, we knew we could not keep it for ourselves. War Hawks Training Module Full War Hawk members have access to all training courses, but some are open to the public. The cockpit trainer can be accessed by clicking on the above link. You can then scroll down to find the KA-50 Cockpit Trainer in the Blackshark specific area of our training module. You will be prompted to log in or view as a guest. Guest access will allow you to view this trainer as well as a few other courses. If you have any questions or would like to join us for full member access to other courses, feel free to contact us from the War Hawks Website. Thanks to WH_Snacko we now have a stand-alone version available as well. Currently hosted on a mediafire account here: Stand-alone DCS:Blackshark Cockpit Trainer Respectfully submitted,

  8. So TEK you had to open a can of worms. You know when people say some things I simply cant stand still and do nothing. :) Basicaly, I disagree with your comment above you made on the FC 2.0 maps thread. This is because the vast majority of flanker variants flying today are of technological level 30 years behind most falcons flying today. As I see it: Advantages of the flanker Su-27S/P: -Max speed -range Disavantages: Just about everything else. Most notably identification friend or foe and SA. Falcons are flying with labels on and share all data. And it has more than 1 system for identifying aircraft. This is fundamental for first shot capability. Further more All flankers are till using old R-27R missiles for their main BVR weapons. Most falcon users are on AIM-120C5 and C7 variants. Should the SU-35 get proliferated, MAWS, AESA are future upgrades (for countries with small budgets), soon to come to mitigate the gap. Any F-16 can take these and F-100PW-229 Engines on demand if necessary, all these items can be added to the aircraft as fast as the manufacturer can supply them. Notably some falcons are 2 tons lighter than others, imagine the new T/W ratio by this engine:) IF PAK-FA development evolves into the Su-41 Flounder (My bet for its future military designation :D ) then yes, there will bo no room for the falcon to deal with it. Automatic F-35 upgrade should be in order. :)

  9. At the ending of this Tacview file there is show of abilities R77, which tryied to hit me. I was hitted by one few seconds earlier, and was falling down in a spin. The second misissle was drawing nice circles near me. So, maybe a spin is good manoeuvre to avoid R77 :pilotfly: http://www.mediafire.com/?i5znby2fww3

  17. Well at the end of the day, the purpose of this game is entertainment. If you find that checking everything in accordance with the startup checklist is not entertaining, then you shouldn't be doing it. If, like many people here, you are very much entertained by the process of running through all of those checks, then you should do them. Random failures aren't completely random. That is, things don't fail randomly, by and large. They fail after some time frame of use (mean time between failures), or perhaps through misuse/abuse. Failures due to abuse are generally modeled in the game (at least, the things that are possible to abuse, such as the engines). Failures that "just happen" as in real life are not modeled because the chance of them happening is so infinitesimally small, that the code required to create the failure is simply not justified. An example: A light burns out in the cockpit...a warning light maybe. Well, there are two bulbs in each caution light, so do we need to write code that makes one half of the indicator dim by a small amount? But lets say it's something else...how much time is on that particular part? Well since you just started the mission, the aircraft is brand new, along with all the parts, right? Persistent airframes are not coded into the game, and again, coding for it is simply not justifiable when comparing the cost of additional code and the benefit from having that code in the game. If the part is mission critical, then you either won't fly without it, or you'd have it replaced before you went to fly. If your ABRIS (or any other critical component) fails, you will either not fly at all, or a new ABRIS will be installed (either from inventory or from controlled exchange with another aircraft that is broken or otherwise not flying). Finally, for the time being, we must all realize that the game title is Digital Combat Simulator, not Digital Maintenance Simulator. It pains me to say that, sometimes, since I am very much interested in the maintenance side of things, but I also want to see these games created in something resembling a timely manner. Besides, who knows what the future holds, perhaps it will be possible in the future for the community to create a mod that allows for this kind of thing.

  20. My suggestion is that, rather than worry about it and find other things to play, that you simply approach this with a plan. You may expect that a flight sim requires a learning curve and investment of time, but no one really tells you just how much - truth is, it really depends on how you go about learning things. Here's what I'll tell you to get you started: This is a flight combat sim. Learn the flight part. Love the flight part. Shoot things later. Start with watching the producer's notes and reading the manual, and for heaven's sakes, do NOT try to do everything at once. Don't worry about the start-up procedure at first. Get yourself a bird in the editor, ready-to-go and start feeling out the controls. Every action should have a plan and expect outcome: I will activate the FLIGHT DIRECTOR to eliminate auto-pilot input. This isn't the right way to fly this heli, but we'll pretend it's a little trainer heli without an autopilot instead. It also prevents me from having to learn about this autopilot stuff right now. I'm going to add collective. What do I expect to happen? I will increase torque slightly in one direction, so I may get nose drift. I will increase lift, so by adding collective slowly, I will see the nose gear lift off the ground. I am trimmed for a motionless ground position, so now the helicopter will want to roll or fly backwards. By adding some forward cyclic and trimming it out I will eliminate this. I will now add more collective, and lift off into a near hover. By analyzing and understanding every motion like this, it will take you maybe a little more time to study and learn, but you will achieve mastery much faster. After you get the hang of taking off like this, hovering the heli, flying about gently and then landing, follow up with a rolling take-off and landing (like a plane!), and different flight modes while in the air (ie hovering, straight and fast, turns, etc etc). Once you've adjusted to the basics of handling and trimming, it's time to take the FLIGHT DIRECTOR off. It's going to be a /huge/ change, because you now have autopilot input and the helicopter will appear to fly differently (in fact, it flies the same, but your input is even more filtered than before by autopilot action). But that's for the future. Focus on the basics of flying and -oh - keep the ABRIS off and just take care to monitor your climb/descent GAUGE (not the HUD, you can do that later. Heck, turn the HUD off!) and your airspeed gauge. If you can, find yourself a squad that teaches how to fly, or someone who's willing to teach you. If you go to a squad, expect to commit - not necessarily time, but it would be rude to join or pretend to join a squad just to learn, and then to leave. Joining a squad is nothing to worry about. Most have very flexible programs since everyone works after all, and everyone needs their own time. Expect to spend between two and five hours learning the basic handling of the helicopter in flight. It might seem like much right now, but it's WELL worth your time. It is a skill that will never rot (ok, it will, but you'll only need a short while to get your skill back, it's not like re-learning everything, and you'll need to take a really long break to lose just that little) and it will also transfer to other realistic rotary wing simulations. The rest? The rest is very important - the nav system, how you DO navigation, then the ABRIS, and your weapons ... but all those things really amount to little more than operating a calculator (as complex as it may be/seem - heck, you operate a computer, right?) ... the flight part will be what requires most skill, at least at first - defeating your enemies requires you to develop a tactical skill, but that's for later. Meantime, just remember: Have a plan. Plans help you learn faster ... and remember, if you fail, don't get frustrated, learn from failure. A simulator allows you to do this and walk away :)

  21. create textfile in mainfolder (battlefield operations) add line: set g_bForceSoftwareGUI 1 //default = 0 <<< this ONE set g_bNoRPMOnHUD 0 //default = 1 set g_bEPAFRadarCues 1 //default = 0 set g_fRadarScale 0.750000 //default = 1.000000 set g_fCursorSpeed 3.500000 //default = 1.000000 set g_bUse3dSound 1 //default = 0 set g_bOldSoundAlg 1 //default = 0 set g_bMFDHighContrast 1 //default = 0 set g_fMfdTransparency 30.000000 //default = 50.000000 set g_nSoundSwitchFix 0 //default = 3 (the other lines are optional) save and rename it to BFops.cfg this will solve your AA bugs....typical for Nvidia ...use 2x or 8xQ AA ...and you are good to go. Depending on your system, i suggest using only HAL instead of T&L and HAL... if you system is really weak..use 16bit textures (not resolution, that still 32bit). Anisotropic Filtering enabled INGAME and application controled on gfx-card settings ! MIpmaps ON. ...enjoy.

  22. options lua should be width = 2240 monitor setup (your custom one) abris aspect is determined by the height and width values you enter abris y = should be 0 if you want it to be top left of usb screen. use you full height of the usb screen abris height = 480 and adjust the abris width to get it to the desired aspect. better still rotate the usb screen 90' and use it as 480 x 800 (reducing the height value as required to achieve correct proportion/aspect) BaD CrC in options lua the "width" should = main screen width + second screen width = 2240 i believe the "aspect ratio" is only for the in game res setting eg: 1440 x 900 = aspect = 1.6

  25. You need to create a new multimonitor config within Blackshark with definition of 1440x900 (don't know if this is a definition that can be used by BS though) and 2 cameras (cockpit + ABRIS). Lets call it "mysetup" Then you need edit options.lua in \data\scripts\ where you need to have height=900 and width=2240 (1440+800) and aspect=2.488 (2240/900). Then you need to edit your multimonitor config file you just created ("mysetup.lua"in this example) which you can find in \Config\MonitorSetup\ and set CENTER starting at X,Y=0,0 with width=1440 and height=900 and aspect= 1.6, then ABRIS starting at x,y=1440,900 with width=800, height=600 and aspect=1.333 (800/600). Don't forget to set up your two screens in the display properties of Windows, the main one on the left and the one you want to use for ABRIS on the right, against the main monitor. Now you can launch BS. If the displays are still shifted, you might need to launch phantom monitor fix.exe that you will find on this forum. Hope this helps.

  30. Strike One to the Bomber-Boys :D Q. How do you know your date with the Fighter Pilot is half over? A. He says "but enough about me - wanna hear about my plane?" Q: How do you know if there is a Fighter Pilot at your party? A: He'll tell you. Q: What's the difference between God and Fighter Pilots? A: God doesn't think he's a Fighter Pilot. Q: What's the difference between a Fighter Pilot and a jet engine? A: A jet engine stops whining when the plane shuts down. A Fighter Pilot arrives in heaven. St Peter asks him if he has ever done anything in his life that he believes makes him worthy of admittance to heaven. The Fighter Pilot replies; yes, I once went into a bar with four of my Pilot friends and saw two Bomber-Boys harassing a young girl at the bar, so being a gentleman I went up to the biggest one and told him to leave this young lady alone. When he refused I told him again more forcefully. This time I slapped him across the face and told the Bomber-Boy to stand down. St Peter said this was a very good thing to do and asked when the pilot did this great act. The pilot replied; about 5 minutes ago! My friends should be here shortly!

  32. Then the easy solution for ED would be to integrate a pull down map selection in the user interface like the pulldown in Falcon 4 AF to select Korea or Balkans, so we can easily switch between Ukraine/Crimea, Georgia, and later on Nevada since the maps have limits on their size. It seems like a waste because Georgia terrain is very mountainous and while it is fun for ground pounders, air to air guys who enjoy BVR can have better practice with flatter terrain and less mountains for fighters to hide in. Crimea was very well done with detailed port cities and offers different gameplay styles. It was the original Flanker series map also. T-Bone
