UPD 3:

  2. Tanks are sitting ducks in the current implementation in the sim. But I talked about the need of a ground AI and ground units rework. As it stands now, a tank sim would not work. A lot of work needs to be done previously. IF that rework is done, player controlled tanks would not be sitting ducks. As GG said, a proper radar network would bring EW to all datalinked vehicles in the net. Even if not datalinked, radio comms would alert the ground crews of nearby enemy planes. You can't even count on firing HARMs or MAVs at will because of enemy CAPs (yes, in an open war you are not alone in the sky burning tanks). If you fly high, EWR will track you. If you fly low, MANPADS will get you as soon as you overfly any kind of enemy concentration. In a case of 50/50 air superiority, being in a Hog is not as easy as you seem to think. Mobility and the cover of woods, buildings, and self defence AA units, do the rest. And when I talked about "MBT sim", I was thinking more in a "Platoon sim", or even multi-platoon sim, something close to Microprose's M1 Tank Platoon, where you could drive 4 tanks and take control of various support platoons. Those were great sims in their time, very challenging and fun. You did not need to drive 2 hours to get anywhere, you took control when forces where in close proximity. Every sim needs proper distancing between forces when designing missions. A-10 can be 300km apart, KA-50 can be 100Km apart, and tanks can be 15Km apart. But, of all the ideas posted, the one I like most was the possibility of integrating truly realistic ground war in what already is a truly realistic air war scenario. It's very very important in two sims that simulate some of the most effective tank killers of our time.

  3. Aplologies lads and lasses, I probably have made too much of an issue of my non combat interest in simulated flying! I have no issue with people enjoying their flight simulations in whatever concept they like to play them. Who am I to criticise anyone ;) I believe that ED has created the best flight sims ever, that is just my opinion. It just happens to be military orientated and that is also where my interest is. No big deal surely how we all appreciate individually a wonderful product of flight simulation. Yes I have tried Xplane but it is not as good as flying the Su25 or A10 that ED have produced and also the environments that ED create in their maps are just second to nobody. OT: I remember flying Flanker many years back and thinking, wow I like this! It's a shame that many of the old ED team are long gone now, but as a Company their values have remained the same. We should be very proud of ED/TFC to stay with us and believe there still is a market for what they specialise in, so small as it is. I am surprised they (ED) are still willing to produce such high demanding flight (combat) simulations for such a small audience although I understand that their talents benefit military markets as well. Short end to this monologue, thank you Igor/team and TFC, may your future visions prosper. A grateful Mizzy

P.S. ECM или EW

  9. I got it!!! :cheer3nc::joystick: MUUUCH better than I expected!!! Pros: Everything good everyone else have been saying about it. I dont know where to begin.. Stick and throttle movement and control are very good!! All the hats and buttons feels perfect (except slew and china hat, see cons) Force is perfect if you have them close to your legs, I think I would have problems if I had these higher on a table (get tired in the arms). But for me its perfect since I always have my HOTAS close to my legs anyway. Cons: Slew control doesnt feel as good as the rest. The fake throttle friction control is a bit too far for me to use as Zoom, so im using mic switch for that, works great. Its a bit hard to reach the china hat, not very ergonomic, but this isnt TMs fault, blame the USAF ;) I think I will get used to both the slew and china hat, so it will be no problem soon. And zoom is no longer a problem since I use mic switch for that. But the slew feels like it could break much easier then the rest. The real mic switch commands I use with the extra pinky button together with mic switch, it was easy to set pinky button as modifier in DCS A10. I use this modifier for everything else that isnt mapped from the start, gears for example. No problem at all strafing with guns, feels very good, precise, easy to control and hit the target. Also have very good control in both regular flight and other combat situations. But I dont know about dogfighting in something like IL2, perhaps for that something else would be better. But I havent tried it. I am a cougar hater, for very good reasons IMO, but I LOVE this even though I only used it for a few hours. Very different feel from the cougar. Im so glad it doesnt feel like the Cougar! Cougar was easily one of the worst purchases I ever made, this is probably going to be one of the best purchases I ever made. Unless it breaks or something LOL :helpsmilie: Bottom line: Very good first impression. Feels great and really enhances the DCS:A10 C experience. Much better than I expected.

  11. no seriously, I do. uploading link... http://books.google.com/books?id=UAQYAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&cd=1&source=gbs_ViewAPI&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=false it's probably not the full one, hope it works! I drooled over this for 5 hours when I first got, especially the part detailing engagements! I had to dedicate 5 hours to fishing for it after I found a bit of it on the 13th page of a google images search. This is the stuff I do in my free time.

  14. Although ED has added many categories, I noticed that some categories only have a few functions added, not all switches in the added panels were added. Still, many categories and many switch functions have been added in this beta version, which is already awesome. I foresee many more to come.

  15. Good news guys. Ok I said earlier that only a few panels now appear in the Options/Control panel. If you have some input hardware like a leo board, it will appear as a column as BU0836 in the key assignment screen. Just select the desired category in the drop down list, find your function, then select the JOY button. This is the simple part. It works. Since the LASTE panel exists in the drop down, I selected that category, then the AAP engage/disengage function, then assigned to JOY BTN 12 on my BU0836. Fired up the sim and went into training to verify. Pushing down my push button wired to the leo board is mirrored in the sim. Cool! Now the more interesting part. What about the many functions added to the keyboard.lua (which is now twice in file size in beta 3) that don't appear in the control panel for button assignment? I learned this from Kuky (thanks Dude!). Here are the steps again. 1. Connect your input hardware. eg. BU0836. Fire up the sim. Let it detect the hardware. It'd add a file eg. BU0836 Interface {F92F83B0-DB0E-11df-8001-444553540000}.lua to the path \config\aircrafts\joystick. When you edit it later you'd have to give write rights else you can't save. 2. Go to the adjacent folder 'keyboard' next to the joystick folder, open up the keyboard.lua. Make a backup copy. Even though you won't be editing this file I found out that when I make changes to the BU0836.lua this got changed somehow. Once inside, choose a function you want, say you want to test the oxygen indicator test button in the environment panel, which doesn't exist in the key assignment window yet. You look for it and copy it from the keyboard.lua and paste it to the bottom of the bu0836 lua file. eg [789] = { ["up"] = 1505, ["name"] = "Oxygen Indicator Test", ["category"] = "Environment System Panel", ["down"] = 1505, }, -- end of [789] 3. you add the section in red. If you have a physical button button wired to joy button 12 in the leo board (verify which joy buton in the windows joystick controller control panel), then below is JOY_BTN12. I assume you know how to wire the leo board pins! [789] = { ["combos"] = { [1] = { ["key"] = "JOY_BTN12", ["reformers"] = { }, -- end of ["reformers"] }, -- end of [1] }, -- end of ["combos"] ["up"] = 1505, ["name"] = "Oxygen Indicator Test", ["category"] = "Environment System Panel", ["down"] = 1505, }, -- end of [789] 4. Save the bu0836 lua file. 5. Launch the sim again. Go in and press you push button. The sim will do likewise! Note: the stuff in red will the same for all toggle/push button functions, except change your joy button number. I can't say it'd work for the more complicated pots/encoders, rotary switches etc. I tested it again for the VHF AM panel load button. Worked like a charm. Note: once you do the above, the category you added now appears in the drop down list. Conclusion: now we have hundreds more switch functions to use compared to the original keyboard.lua. Thanks ED! Even if you can't find the category or the switch function in the key assignment screen, as long as you can find it in the beta 3 keyboard.lua file, do the steps above, copy and paste into the joystick input file, in this case the bu0836.lua, then add the section in red and watch the switches come alive! This is really awesome. The only problem is I don't have my OC cards yet! I tested push buttons in three different panels and all worked! Go hook up some buttons and enjoy! And thanks Kuky!

  17. Look in the Forum and Site Issues forum for info about the beta forum. e.g. this post. It's the email address for your forum account and digitalcombatsimulator.com account that must match, not username or password. Edit: here is a longer post I made on the subject which might make it clearer what you need to do.

  18. Whatever problems I was having before are gone in Beta3. I've tried every combo of refuel inhibit button state I could think of before. Now it's clearly works with them popped and doesn't work with them flush.

  19. Also, torrent manager is installed on HDD and temporary directory also on the HDD. Its recommended to relocate all temporary write trash to the HDD to keep the SDD at peak performance (garbage collection and TRIM functions should be able to keep pace for the rest on the SDD applications) one exception to this is the page file. You need that on SDD for quick responsiveness of the system.

  20. Thanks, Grimes. Was hoping for a sound conspiracy theory and that's good enough for me. :D That's a fine looking list, too. To the ones that think not even ED has a clue as to what will come after DCS: A-10C. Welcome to the forums, you must be new. :D My guess is they probably have an idea of what they would like to do for the fourth and fifth modules, and I'm positive they've been working on the third module in parallel with the A-10C. ED aren't tight lipped by choice and were forced to for good reason since post Flanker 2 days. I'm sure they, as with any pround parents, would love to let us in on features and flyables. But back when they would throw us juicy info, a lot of people would hold them accountable to their words. If an announced feature happenns to be some grognards' fetish and said feature does not make it to release, they are hounded to no end. Nasty stuff.

  22. Hello there Musty :) I had no time to spare the team so I had to tell Matt to remove me as it was wasting EDs time having me as a passenger! Well, for the other posts, I did say it was a waste of time asking but I could not help but to ask ;) I have FSX 2004, Falcon 4, SF, Flaming Cliff 1and 2 Lock on 1.02, Flanker 1.5 and Flanker 2, Black Shark, Janes USAF, Janes F18, IL2 (all of them) and WOE. Oh I also have EAW and EDs A10. Eh hem...now then....all I do with them all is just fly around not because I can't work out how to fight (although the ED simulations are hard for me as with Falcon 4) it is against my beliefs to kill anyone either in reality or in cyber space. I just have a facination for aircraft and in particular military aircraft. I have done mods or artwork for most simulations out there and incidently FSX doesn't come close to EDs flight simulation, nor does Falcon 4 so that is why I play EDs simulations when I get time, which is'nt much these days. Greetings to you all. Mizzy

  23. Only argument I have for you coolts is this. Yes, you get to learn the sim before hand. I have learned a lot of the systems but I only have maybe 20-40 hours tops in game. I am not trying to become an expert though. When the sim is released it will not have hundreds of new missions and campaigns. It will have many of the same missions and campaigns from the betas. So, if BS got boring after playing the same missions over and over, so will A10. Especially if you have already mastered most of the campaigns. So, you will have paid $60 for the beta and got most of the game under your belt before the unbugged retail version. You dealt with bad mavs, bad flir, bad gbu12s, bad PAC, bad EAC, bad canopy, bad seat height, and all the other bugs of the beta. Instead if you wait, you spend $60 to get the much less bugged retail version. You can dive right into the training missions without having to figure out what button needs to be pressed to get it to continue, or any headaches like that. Not to say I regret getting the beta though. Its just like buying most title's release versions on launch and fighting through the early adoption days of endless patches and hotfixes. Only difference is this is called a beta pre purchase bonus and not a launch day version. By the time both marketing options are smoothed out to perfection, you have beaten the game and done all the surprising and exciting things and all that is left is pwning noobs by camping on a sniper hill overlooking the spawn point. :D Again, not regretting my purchase, just posting my thoughts. They are mostly not worth the read so sorry if you spent your time reading. :P

  24. No, in pre-contact it just stays there at half way out in the green zone. When the connection is established I think the up/down distance is really important. It should be shown by the indicator on the left side of the Stratotanker (indicating boom elevation), but I usually see it indicating U with a red arrow (post #55 above). As the indicator is almost impossible(?) to see from the cockpit I'm having a hard time figuring out other visual cues that I can relate pitch adjustments to. On one occasion I have seen the indicator indicating something other than U: I really have a lot of problems getting that as well - I just tried a couple of times and I can only do it when being lucky to hiy the right spot and using autopilot.

  27. Moar bugs to report. Actual bugs. Not just me screwing up the game. Silly AI thinks he can kill me. But seriously, this is annoying. I can understand enemy planes trying to evade me in order to not be shot down, but this completely unarmed Yak-40 is actually trying to CHASE me! It's very easy to replicate this glitch as well. I've done it twice now. The plane's task is "transport". Also note that the plane exceeds its "maximum" speed and altitude in order to give chase! This game is still loaded with AI bugs including but not limited to this. I know they fixed the AI for the Sochi-Adler base in the last patch, but ALL airbases I have used so far have problems with the AI in one form or another. The AI is still screwy as you all know. But this is just the beginning. Still a lot of problems with the map editor and the in-game map. There's even invisible hills I've crashed into. See below. Damaged helicopters LANDED on this invisible hill. I can't count how many times wingmen have taken off from an airbase to follow me after reloading. They just turn and throttle it, flying through objects, floating in mid air, and flying in a straight line with wheels down until I tell them to RTB. Then they just stop in mid air and sit there about 100 feet above the ground... Oh, and then there's the carriers. They launch off the deck with their wings folded. Got a screenshot of this one. Stupid pilot. >_> Oh, and for the record, skin mods don't screw with the AI. I love how everyone assumes that a simple mod like that will break the programming of the game. I've been modding Lock On since the original. It won't mess up anything. Oh yea, and the helicopters... This is a terrain glitch, but I saw them land in mid air too. I have screenshots of that too and a location on a map. Likewise, my plane magically explodes flying over this region. Happened not once, not twice, but ALL the time. I just don't fly there anymore. Oh yea, and anyone who's developed a decent mission knows that the mission editor map does NOT match up with the in-game terrain. And compass directions are still screwed up. The game either ignores my inputs or resets them most of the time. And the AI still behaves wrong on airfields except for Sochi because Sochi is the only one they fixed. Don't know why... Water level is also wrong further south, it seems. Weapons often fail to hit because the water is in the way, or the phalanx fails to shoot down incoming missiles. Please tell me Eagle Dynamics EVENTUALLY has another patch planned. :\
