EDIT (1/21/2012): I've added a new file along with the existing training pack (as a separate file). This file is a training mission that includes both A-10C and Black Shark 2 and supports up to 33 aircraft at once. This mission incorporates pretty much ALL weapons and air to ground and air to air roles you can expect to face (including air to air refueling). Me and some of my squadron have been working on a set of training missions for a little bit now and I figured maybe the rest of the community might get some use out of them as well. These are fairly short missions which you can go through pretty quickly and most are very focused so you can concentrate on one particular aspect until you are ready for a more general mission. All of these missions are made as multiplayer so you can either play on your own server as a multiplayer solo, or fly with friends. Included are: Takeoff and landing - Up to 12 aircraft are supported. Here there are 2 sets of aircraft. One set ready to takeoff from the runway (so you don't have to worry about startup), and one set as air-start. In each of those groups 2 aircraft are nearly at 100% combat weight, 2 are at about 50% and 2 are clean and near empty so you can practice takeoffs and landings under various weight/aerodynamic configurations so you can get used to how the aircraft handles in all conditions. Weapons training missions. In each of these there are several target groups of static targets including soft and hard vehicles, as well as light and heavy structures which will take varying degrees of accuracy to ensure a kill. The following weapons are covered: Iron bombs: (low drag and high drag for CCIP and CCRP employment). Cluster bombs: General purpose, anti-armor, wind corrected general purpose, and wind corrected anti-armor employment. JDAM bombs: GBU-31 and 38 employment. LGB bombs: LGB 10 and 12 employment. Maverick missiles: Covers employment of light weight versions of the IR and electro-optical models. Maverick missiles 2: Covers employment of the heavy-penetrator versions of the IR and electro-optical models. Rockets: Covers employment of the Mk1 High Explosive, Mk5 Anti Tank, M151 Anti Personnel, M156 White Phosphorous smoke Once you have mastered the basics you can move on to the Mixed Training mission. There the aircraft are ramp start so you can practice cold starting the aircraft and are armed with a wide mix of weapons. There are a wide variety of targets (and a LOT of them so there will be plenty of targets even if you have a number of people in the mission). There are also moving groups that spawn when you enter certain areas. There are also air units which spawn which vary from unarmed helicopters all the way up to top of the line air superiority fighters depending on various conditions. There are also groups of air defenses to practice against including AAA, IR SAMs and Radar guided SAMs as well as naval units. I have provided 4 versions of the mixed mission. Day LoDif (Day time, low difficulty). All external views enabled and all units showing on the map to ease new pilots in finding targets. Night LoDif (Night time, low difficulty). All external views enabled and all units showing on the map to ease new pilots in finding targets. A-10s are also armed with a pod of illumination rockets for practice of illuminating an area. Day HiDif (Day time, high difficulty). All external views disabled and all hostile units are hidden. Night HiDif (Night time, high difficulty). All external views disabled and all hostile units are hidden. A-10s are also armed with a pod of illumination rockets for practice of illuminating an area. This is still a WIP and not every missions has been exhaustively tested as of yet. Will post updates if there is interest. Here's an applet I've created for me (G15) and a friend (G19), and I thought I would share. It's quite a simple list of the different information concerning the airfields, such as the tower frequency, the Tacan channel, etc. displaying on the LCD screen. Here's what it looks like on both LCDs: Thanks to SHU77, the data is taken from his awesome diagrams. Note: The applet has no priority, so you will have to select it from your keyboard once it's running. [update: V.1.1 is uploaded] [Link is pending review] [Temporary ext. link]3 points

ALL Missions now also have at least 1 aircraft set up as Player so you should be able to launch these missions from the Single Player client of A-10 as well. The current version is 1-4. If you previously downloaded the Training Pack zip you will want to delete those and download the new set (the old zip in the original post has been removed and replaced with the updated pack). I did these mods in a bit of a hurry, so there might be some errors, but if you find any issues please let me know. Enjoy!2 points

I'm working on a small app that allows using the X52pro MFD to store mission important requency for reference. Frequency Scratchpad for X52pro MFD Usage: Using the UI you can enter various misson critical frequencies. The entered frequencies are then stored to the MFD for the time the application is running. You can use the MFD page scroll wheel (the left one below the MFD) to browse through the entered frequencies without the need of alt-tabing out of the sim. Just note that the fq are there just for reference, you still need to enter them to the radios yourself ;) Troubleshooting The App is compiled using DirectOutput.dll version 6.2.2.4. If you run in any problems, check the version of your driver dll first. The dll can be found in your saitek install folder\DirectOutput (i.e. c:\Program Files\Saitek\DirectOutput\), and the version is listed in the properties. The MFD SDK can have a mind of it's own. You can try to use the File->Restart Service to fix some weird behaviour the SDK has (i.e. the entered fq are not displaying on the MFD). If you have any problems or questions, then write here right away. I've been working on the app only for a few hours, and I didn't know anything about the MFD SDK before I started working, so there might be some pesky hidden bugs. :) Frequency ScratchPad.zip1 point

Hi, I was inspired by the "Courier" mission, to do this "first attempt" video ( In clear weather.) I used Fraps and my old Video editor to make the final upload in WMV format. I am still experimenting. The AVI files are too large at 500Mb for 30 seconds! This whole film was 353 Mb for about 5 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQSdcctry9c If anyone completes the Courier Mission, all I can say is well done and what a sense of achievement! ( You really can fly the Ka 50:) ) This is a superb sim. A10c next:thumbup:1 point

It isn't - the fuel gauge isn't even standard among MiG-29 versions. No but it clearly should - why else would the gauge indicate up to 7 tons of fuel? :)1 point

If your wingman wants to send a coordinate to your ABRIS ( or if you want to input coordinates to the ABRIS) it could be done by : Having the coordinates set in the wingmans system he would: 1. Select target type on Data Link Control Panel 2. Select the helicopter flight number on the Data Link Control Panel that is to receive the data( ie you) 3.If there is more than one target of the same type in system memory, he will need to go back and press the target type button on the Data Link Control Panel as many times as required to cyle through all targets of the same type 4. Press the "ПРД/ПАМ" (Send/Memory) button on the Data Link Panel to send the data to the selected flight members (you) The symbology will be on your ABRIS. To use the PVI800 to send Target Point Coordinates, or in put them into your ABRIS: Having already input the coordinates by either typed entry via PVI800 keypad or by Shkval designation: 1. Press the "ОТ" (Target point) push-light button on Navigation Control panel 2. Select the TP ID using the Navigation Control panel keypad. The number will then be displayed on the Navigation Control panel display and the ABRIS will have a blinking marker point as well. 3. Press the desired target type or ingress point push-light button on the Data Link panel (button will light) 4. Select recipient(s) number or all (button will light). 5. Press the "ПРД/ПАМ" (Send/Memory) button (button will light briefly). If you omit step 4 then the coordinates point will be input to your ABRIS. Hope this helps.:thumbup:1 point

(it's translation of my answer to PeterP's post in russian forum) In short, the user password saved in network.cfg is not encrypted, that can cause potential threat to theft it. I (personally I as an user and virtual pilot) do not think that it's serious issue, because nobody will share their game folder. But I'm agree with PeterP, that there is danger in some "nice" modes. This vulnerability will by closed and it's absolutely right (actually, it's already closed).1 point

Pilots in the Air Force are required a bachelors degree, engineering isn't required. A lot of them have degrees not related to engineering at all. Officers don't go through BMT, they either go through OTS, the Academy, or ROTC. All three have a BMT-like component, and yep, it sucks. I was at BMT while ROTC was doing their summer stuff and they took a lot of ridiculous crap on top of everything we did. Air Force Basic SERE Course is in Washington state, the basic SERE course covers all the components, and pilots are required to go through continuing training throughout their careers to reinforce the lessons in the basic course. It is true that following the evasion exercise, anyone that wasn't caught already will be shipped to the resistance training site. Wouldn't really be a SERE course without it! As an aside, the code of conduct still states that you will make every attempt to escape, but escape is a violation of the LOAC, and, by extension, a violation of the UCMJ. Neat little catch-22 not even JAG could answer for me. Additionally most situations prisoners find themselves in preclude meaningful escape attempts, so your insinuation that we no longer train for escape is rather insulting. Air Force pilots are required to go through the centerfuge as well, not sure the G load for A-10 pilots, or if it's even different from the rest of TacAir. To the original topic... I haven't had an opportunity to touch base with the 104th FS here in MD... should do that. But I do remember a few years ago we were doing some training at the F-16 simulator the 555th FS has. After a few hundred hours with Falcon 4, I didn't have a problem starting it up, and I more or less figured out how to get things done. Correlation? Nearly none, as anyone that's taken an I-Ride in a 16 can tell you, you're so far behind the jet your first flight it isn't even funny. Even pilots at the RTU will tell you that. I think I could get it started, taxi, takeoff... get out over the Chessie, or Atlantic here, and pull the Oh-SH*T handles. With enough time, I could probably figure out enough to arrive back on earth in one piece (won't exactly classify it as a landing!), but I doubt I'd get the time before the DC Air Guard came in their jets to say hello.1 point

Tracks_SFM_MiG-29C.rar1 point

A little contribution of info regarding my country's role in the conflict, Late last night the Danish parliament approved the decision to send six F-16's(four for operational deployment and two reserve) to Italy in order to participate in the enforcement of a no-fly-zone over Libya. Immediately after a challenger jet with pilots and ground crew left for Italy in order to make preparations for the arrival of the F-16s, which in turn took off from Skrydstrup AFB at 06:00 this morning, so they should have arrived in Sicily by now. It is expected that our jets will be among the first to be ready for missions over Libya, but frankly the way events unfold at the moment the question is whether it is too late - at least the point to a no-fly-zone by itself seems to have long passed. Latest reports says that Libyan government forces are already moving into the suburbs of Benghazi, so my guess is that the missions may now be directed toward strikes on ground forces and installations outside Benghazi in order to try to halt or hamper the attack on the city.1 point

The objects emit if they have temperature above 0K according to Planck Law. But in IR emission index(e) is much higher than reflection index®(e+r = 1 for non transparent bodies), and in visible part of spectrum r is higher than e. That's why it IR is used for devices working with the objects own radiation.1 point

PoAF is not going to do anything. The country will only send out "humanitarian" missions, as Libyan C-130's sit idle at our maintenance center. Got some of their engines next to my desk at work. And thats probably why we wont lift a finger to help. just surreal.1 point

Nope. I was a Navy carpenter Seabee in a MCB unit. Of course carpentry was rather scarce, Navy has a sense of humor, concrete is what we did mostly. 1974 to 1982. I enlisted after Viet Nam was almost over.. They never called my draft number in 1970. I built houses for 4 years. My attitude changed. Oil Embargo and no work. Me and my brother enlisted. My Navy test scores qualified me for Annapolis, but I am color blind, so I stayed enlisted and stayed awhile. I knew a hard azz guy that volunteered for SERE to test himself. But I remember them saying, "you will be caught". I popped a blood vessel in my head when I turned age 50. It is surprising I remember as well as I do. The rest of that memory doesn't exist. LOL I read your profile. Have you talked to a recruiter? Talked to anybody at the Air Force Academy? If you want it, do it! Don't let anybody stop you. Go for it. Erich1 point

It should also be noted that the Hog was originally designed as a single engined aircraft with a meagre nozzle sticking out the back, but because of the extreme nose down on take off's they added 2 huge oil drums strapped to the back to counter balance the weight of the GAU. Having realised the potential here they replaced the oil with two spanking new engines then removed the tail nozzle engine and replaced it with a stocky dwarf who they sealed inside with a lifetime supply of chupa chups. Well, remember that the current sandy bridge releases aren't even meant to replace the 9xx line. 1155 replaces 1156, with the future 2011 being the replacement for 1366, complete with triple channel. So it's not that they are "going back", it's that they haven't released the "top-line" Sandy Bridge products yet. That said, 990X is overpriced crud for almost any application a consumer would use it for. If you play games (including ED simulators) as your main computer activity you are paying 5 times the price for identical or lower performance. Triple channel RAM isn't going to have any real impact on your game performance. Hell, in Metro 2033 the 1156 CPU 875K actually beats it, and that's old gen and dual-channel at the same time! :P http://techreport.com/articles.x/20486/41 point

"Well, it’s just really hard to do. Looking back on it, I think the only reason we took on what we did is because we were too inexperienced to know better." Coming from the guy who created F4s DC. So there you have it. ED did the right thing to stick with simulator part and got that one right, than implementing DC and cause even more bugs and delays. ED builds its games around the plane they simulate, i don't expect a DC from them. DCS are already complex products on their own.1 point

Yeah- combining was OK for LOMAC up to FC 2.0.; In DCS the problem lies within the rudders & the new availability of differential toe braking. Note that axis assignments are repeated over the spread of the 3 devices. If they were combined into 1- you would NOT be able to do this. Conflict.1 point
