I was inspired by a thread that Bahger created, and some great links that bartleby provided (Thank you Gentlemen!) to write up another Tutorial based on the Offset Page of the CDU. I have said it before, and I will say it again....the CDU is the "Final Frontier". So let's put those previously unused Bullseye Calls to use, using the CDU. This Tutorial covers how to take a Bullseye Call from AWACS and turn it into a waypoint you can navigate to, and engage with "great vengence, and furious anger!!" (nod to Pulp Fiction and Tarantino, and Samuel L. Jackson) I hope you will find it helpful, and as always, please let me know if there are any needed revisions or corrections. CDU Offset Tutorial is attached below in PDF format. Good Hunting. CDU OFFSET TUTORIAL 04-14-2011.pdf11 points

As I have mentioned in another thread, with the upcoming Steam Release, there will be a lot of new pilots coming on these forums for guidance. Some will be veterans of previous flight sim's, but I think the majority will be green recruits. Having that in mind, I would like to provide them a thread they can come to find community created guides aimed squarely at them. I need you all to help me out and please consider making a New Pilots' Guide that has your own advice and wisdom based on your experiences. Please try to provide whatever you create in a PDF format for consistency. Post them here, and please try to remember your target audience, and how it was for you way back when you first met the Hog! We want the Simulation Community to grow, so let's provide a resource for the new pilots that show up. I have created my version, and have attached it below. Based on the response from the Community, I hope to see this thread made a sticky. Guys, just to be clear, I am looking for you to create a short document with your best advice, and help with things that were stumbling blocks to you when you first started. Thanks, WarriorX, top notch as always. Other useful applications of the Offset page include: 1. Creating a break-to waypoint relative to a target point - provides a reference to fly to as you break away after releasing weapons during an attack run. Use the Offset to set a point 90 degrees off your attack course, toward the "friendly" side if such a thing exists. 2. Creating an approach fix relative to the airbase you intend to land at, especially when said airbase is different from that issued in your original flight plan. Using the airbase as the base waypoint, create an offset waypoint 10nm out and on the reciprocal runway heading for use as an approach fix. Especially helpful in bad weather / poor visibility. 3. Setting a waypoint when approach control instructs, "HAWG 11, fly 235 for 20...". Mark your current position and create the offset at 235/20 from there. I agree the CDU is kind of a "final frontier" for me, too, and a very useful tool indeed.2 points

Hey guys, been working on this for a bit. I wrote a log parser for DCS that will create some formatted, readable log files for you in either HTML (for CSS formatting, just throw it in a custom DIV) or plain text. Contains all the events sorted by player/unit with times converted to 24-hour clock local. See README for sending bug reports, ideas, etc. Its BETA, but it works. Hoping to add more functionality soon based on your reports. Linky: http://www.filedropper.com/a10logparser1 point

I'm working on a software that will allow you to configure indicators form DCS in an easy way. Jus select your LUA monitor Setup and check/uncheck the indicators and place/resize them as you want on your screen, save an play! For helios owners it's an easy way to setup your indiwators while having helios running, no need to edit manually files and run multiple times DCSW EDIT 2/18/2013 : New Version available, fully compatible with DCS: World. Modules included : A-10C (Both MFCDs, RWR, CDU, CMSC, CMSP, UHF frequencies, UHF channel preset, UHF Repeater, Clock) KA-50 (ABRIS, Shkval, UV26, PVI, Caution Lights, Ekran) FC3 is planned but will not be included before the release of the final version of this module Kneeboard will be released with the management software. You can also manage the center view size and position and the ingame GUI usefull for those with multiple monitors Known Issues : In A-10C module CDU and CMSC are truncated in EMC view this sis due to th way ED managed this two viewports, the viewport is not rendered in the zone set by lua monitor file as the ekran in KA-50 module only the bottom part of the ekran is readed from lua file to set the viewport size and position (look at gif below to see what i mean). PS: ED devs can you have a look at this three viewports please? PS2: Can someone remove the WIP tag in the thread title please? i cant. 2 weeks ago I started to get tingling feeling in my stick hand, like pins and needles in the thumb, and forefinger and nerve pain in my palm. I just got back from the doctor today, he told me it is carpal tunnel syndrome caused by my love of flying with the warthog hotas :( He told me to stop flying for a few weeks to see if it heals, if not an operation can treat it, but its not always succesful and in some cases can make the situation worse. So, now I have 2 options, option A, is rest my hand for a few weeks and dont fly and see if it gets better, if it does then I will find a lower position for the stick so that my wrist isnt being compressed, so that hopefully it doesnt happen again or option B, sell my warthog and go back to using a smaller stick or god forbid stop flying entirely. I am gutted, truly gutted. I think having it lower down and possibly centred mounted between the legs would fix the problem, but i dont know. So, is their anyone else out there who has started to get nerve pain in their hand due to the warthog ??? or am I the only unfortunate one ? My love of flying could be cut short by some stupid nerves, this is not a happy day for me :(1 point

THANKS!! Thanks Warrior for another great clear, helpful and very well designed tutorial! WOW! Perhaps I can add my personal way to play around with BULLSEYE CALLS… Just for the fun of adding to the discussion. When in the heat of battle, you can get many different BULLSEYE calls very quickly, some that can be very helpful. They can come from friendly aircraft operating near you and calling their targets, they can show you the location of enemy assets and, especially, SAMs and other threat… They can also come from AWACS. Those indication are very precious for a better SA and you need to process them quickly. I like to use the TAD for this purpose : -Set the TAD as SOI -Hook something (yourself, for example) with TMS forward short (that will make active the bearing and range indicator in the lower right corner of the TAD. -At first, the default indicator gives you the bearing and range from HOOK TO OWN which, if you just hooked yourself, should give you 000/000 J -press OSM 18 6x and you now have BULL TO CURS (Bullseye to TAD cursor indicator) and you have now a very quick way to look around to check where are those BULLSEYE locations. -you can even make mark points with the most important locations (threats, SAMs, etc) with TMS right short, and then, if you put your AAP dial to the MARK position, you will be able to see the markpoint icons in the TAD as well as steerpoints in the HUD. That can give a real boost to your SA. Hope this helps and is clear enough (without the nice annotated pictures of Warrior:smilewink:) JEFX1 point

My only other MMORGP (I think that is the correct acronym...maybe...) online, lots of guys in a server is: http://www.hitechcreations.com/help.html Why I quit that flight sim game I have done since 2007, on 4 independent, company owned servers, is what I perceived as cheating. And I said so on the forum and separately to the owners. That "cheating" may very well be the inadequacy of my Frontiernet.net lousy DSL connection running only at less than 5 mega bytes per second download speed and frame rates. My PC is more than adequate, but something just does not gel there. You guys do the server thing here differently; maybe that is more common in the real world than being spoiled to Aces High. I quit that game paying $15 monthly for something new and more challenging because there is just too many moves that have to be memorized between the 2 sims. The older I get, I am almost age 60, the harder it gets. But I DO MISS Aces High, sometimes. Realize too, I did cerebral hemorrhage at age 50 and survived it---no small feat. I type mostly with one finger. Delphi and Yahoo Groups forums forced me to type, therefore forcing me to use the hand/eye/brain/muscle relearning process and saved my life. Some guys think I am a bit slow learning---yes I am. But at least I have use of both hands. Aftermath of brain hemorrhage is not fun and retraining the brain to create new pathways is the goal. I walk a lot, BUT not enough. I love the Internet, but not Facebook or Twitter. I love flight sims. Now to answering your question: ====================== Both! And then some. Depends on the squad. Aces High has over 500 guys, probably over 1000 guys in it worldwide. And they have many, many squads in it. See their COMMUNITY drop down. Each squad is different. Some squads operate very casually and some squads act just like a full military flight unit should function in real life. Some squads are very demanding, very aggressive, very similar to the way the Marines train killers or the SEALS operate after BUDS. I got LockOn Platinum in January 2011 is how I found DCS through KonKuSSion, I call him Kon. Once I ever get up to where I need to be as a useful squad member I will request a squad membership. I know where I will need to be before being useful. And from what I have seen so far the 77th Savage group may fill YOUR need and MY need. Ask him. http://www.s77th.com/forums/login.php?redirect=cal_lite.php&sid=55c1459e84c45d7771f5680459dabd71 Just jump in and try a squad and feel it out. I did that doing the USA Navy in 1974 at age 22, but I was committed, no way out for 6 years. LOL! As to lots of guys on one server? Aces High has approximately quarterly, 500 guys, in squads, at one time recreating a WWII battle that can last 3 hours, but the limiting factor is, WWII era planes, via machine guns, mostly toss bombs except for the precision bombers. And too many guys ramming and head-ons like an arcade game mentality, which I hate. The owners will not enforce not allowing it, so I left. Maybe LockOn is similar. I played LockOn FC about a week. I would love to see a Korean war sim: F-86 vs. Migs of that era as realistic as DCS is. I am a bit wordy.... yeah, right... and veer off topic too much... And might get scolded for it. Erich1 point

With all due respect but I feel I need to ask why this thread that Grimes posted was deleted? I can understand that it was moved if it wasn't apropriate for that section but no.. it was outright deleted... may I ask why? It was a giveaway of TrackIR units guys from our squad have left and they were meant to be given for free to people from flight sim comunity... does it break any forum rules? A simple explanation of why it was deleted would be nice :noexpression: EDIT: alright I checked forum rules again and wondering if this rule was the reason if so, I still think that post was not advertising any product as we were not selling anything... it was for free... does this fit into same category?1 point

A good way to script Hi, some information concerning LUA and how you can use several scripts together. For example, the folowing was done to use Tactview and Lotact together. - First of all do not use Export.lua to integrate you lua script. Export.lua is a big comment ans should stay as. - Add you export script in a new file (My_script.lua) - Add the folowing line at the end in export.lua to call your script : dofile( "./Config/export/My_script.lua ") - Your export script "My_script.lua" should have the folowing structure to work together with other scripts. Myfunction = { Start=function(self) -- Add here your code who will be executed once at startup (after pause) end, AfterNextFrame=function(self) -- Add here your code who will be executed at each cycle time end, Stop=function(self) -- Add here your code who will be executed when your leaving the simu end, } -- ============= -- Overload -- ============= -- Works once just before mission start. do local PrevLuaExportStart=LuaExportStart; LuaExportStart=function() Myfonction:Start(); if PrevLuaExportStart then PrevLuaExportStart(); end end end -- Works just after every simulation frame. do local PrevLuaExportAfterNextFrame=LuaExportAfterNextFram e; LuaExportAfterNextFrame=function() Myfonction:AfterNextFrame(); if PrevLuaExportAfterNextFrame then PrevLuaExportAfterNextFrame(); end end end -- Works once just after mission stop. do local PrevLuaExportStop=LuaExportStop; LuaExportStop=function() Myfonction:Stop(); if PrevLuaExportStop then PrevLuaExportStop(); end end end1 point

Well we all are still learning, thats the fun part! I for example, have just been illuminated by a good hearted forum member, as to one of my bigger fubar's...all I can do is laugh, and shake my head. You see, I have been thanking DCS in all my Tutorials, and I really should be thanking Eagle Dynamics. DCS=Game Series Title, ED=Game Company. I will get it right in my next Tutorial.

I've been using Arduino all along, I think Gadroc was using PIC or maybe someone else. My solution is about 2/3 finished. I have to stress test my firmware to make sure I don't run out of memory on the boards in practice. I'm doing some tricky things with dynamic memory that aren't exactly recommended on AVRs so I can pass configuration to the board from the PC and never have to re-flash the firmware when I make a hardware change. I also have to finish the server. Attached is a shot of how that is going so far. It looks better running on Windows 7, but it will run on XP, Vista and 7 and possibly Linux if I get around to it.1 point
