  1. I really hope they are listening to us because this is a game changer for busy people... I really LOVE flying DCS but I dont have that much time... it gets discouraging...
  2. Hi Try here and good luck. And also Here as well.;)

    F/A 18 Manual

just a thought... perhaps it would be great if ED published an online version of the manual that has the additions gradually, as they come out... (for example the new HARM mode of this week, the way the SA page and D/L functions, etc...) Wags videos are great to present us with the new content (and thank you sir!) but a reliable official reference document would be great, without having to wait that so many systems are finished... (I beleive that is what the folks at Heatblur are doing with the Tomcat manual no?... I thought it was a good idea. thanks
  4. This topic continues to annoy me a lot, I dont know about you all... Look at this picture: I have both the HSI and the Radar visible... on the HSI, one can see that I am heading about 315 degrees and I had designated WP1 as AA WP, and one can see in the top right corner of the HSI that indeed WP1 is at 314 degrees! That is MAGNETIC. Looking left at the radar, right away one can see that our heading (top center of the radar display) is 328 degrees... In Nevada where I am now, the Magnetic Variation is around 13 degrees EAST, therefore one needs to substract it to go from TRUE to MAGNETIC (which is almost exactly what it is, 328 TRUE minus 13 is very close to our 315 MAGNETIC... Furthermore, looking at the BRA reading on the radar display (bottom left BRA) that shows where my cursor is looking (exactly on the AA WP 1), it shows TRUE as well... (328 DEGREES) I found the same discrepancies with the new SA page we got today in the update... It is not possible to have one display in TRUE and another in MAGNETIC... this is very poor SITUATIONAL AWARENESS:cry:
  5. Hey BlackReef welcome to this wonderful community and forum! I think that since this is New Year, I wanted to hep and give you a direct link to a few good tutorials. But first off, lets make one thing clear : you want to make yourself some simple MISSIONs and not INSTANT ACTION. Just go to the MISSION EDITOR and make yourself whatever simple mission you want. You can read the appropriate section in the DCS WORLD 2.5 MANUAL it is very well explained. Here is a couple of links for some video tutorials: try one and one also There is a very good series of rather quick and to the point turorials from SUNSTAG here is a LINK for his Youtube where you will find what he calls his MISSION EDITOR SANCTUARY. There are 20 good videos on mission editing. But if you want to get going real quick, open the mission editor, select your aircraft on the left panel (AC ICON), clik on the map close to an airport and give the waypoint the role of TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY. As mentionned before, set your SKILL to PLAYER (this is a catch for newbies)... and just clik on the FLY icon on the left... Have fun and I hope you can start to enjoy this wonderful sim!!!
  6. Perhaps I didnt look in the right place.. But I cannot believe that nobody did comment the glimpse at the viper that we get at the end of Wags today’s video???:smilewink:
  7. Thanks for carifying Wags, very good video (as always GA)! I thought that the last image was a nice surprise! An actual glimpse at the upcoming Viper??????
  8. Today’s DCS World video... nobody comments on the F-16???????? Perhaps I didnt look in the right place.. But I cannot believe that nobody did comment the glimpse at the viper that we get at the end of Wags today’s video???:smilewink:
  9. Actually, I had not read the last few 'mini-updates' and Wags says (regarding the new Bulls AA waypoints and BRA functions: so I guess I have my answer! Thanks again Wags for all the very informative and precise communications!
  10. Hi, I hope somebody from ED or Wags could answer this question please: there has been a discussion going on about the fact that in our Hornet, the HUD and HSI are in MAGNETIC degrees and the ATK RADAR in TRUE... see here And I did some research and actually asked Vincent 'Jell-O' Aiello from the Fighter Pilot Podcast about this and his answer was unequivocal: 'everything in the cockpit is magnetic' see here . This morning, Wags posted a nice video about the upcoming BULLS and BRA function in the radar, with so-called AA waypoints. Looking at the displays, it is evident that this situation has not been corrected : both the HUD and HSI point to 057ish degrees and the Radar is 060 degrees and, Yes, the magnetic declination in the PG at that latitude and longitude is about 2.5 degrees East now... I find this a bit annoying, especially in this context where directions given are very important for tactical purpose... how are we supposed to use BRA calls and functions if the instruments dont match? thanks
  11. yes of course, that disctinction about high latitude is a real life thing that doesnt apply at all, unless one day we do have a high arctic map !!!!!
  12. I just wanted to add my voice here as a fervent admirer of the 'Fighter Pilot Podcast' which I discovered only recently (because off Matt's interview!). If any of you have not yet listened to the Carrier operations series, it is a must!! (and everything else the podcast offers!) https://www.fighterpilotpodcast.com/
  13. Yes I was thinking in North American and European terms... Didnt know the Russians would give ATC headings in True... Here is the answer about Magnetic and True in the Hornet... I was puzzled by the fac that our HSI and HUD is in Magnetic and our Radar in True, which seems totally not practical. I asked Vincent 'Jell-o' Aiello from the great 'Fighter Pilot Podcast' and here is his textual answer: Regarding your question: 1) everything in the aircraft is in magnetic, unless true is selected on the MPCD and I believe that only effects the HSI and HUD. 2) all AIC calls are also in magnetic. Bottom line, we almost never use true headings except when going between charts and actual heading, which we almost never do anymore. Thanks to Jell-o for answering this for us!
  14. ????? could you explain more clearly what you mean? I dont understand your words??
  15. Actually, I am the one who wrote this, and, yes, it is a fact in aviation (I am a private pilot). Now, in DCS 2.5 in general and in the F/A-18C in particular, the situation is right and wrong at the same time... What is totally like real life is the fact that the ME map, as well as the F10 map while in the game, are both in TRUE degrees (for example when one checks a distance and direction with the ruler). In real life, aeronautical maps are always in TRUE degrees. The other thing that is totally similar to real aviation is that in the cockpit, all the NAVIGATION instruments are in MAGNETIC degrees (in the Hornet we are talking about the HUD, the HSI and the backup COMPASS), of course if one doesn’t touch the option to change the HUD to TRUE in the DATA page. The Air Air Radar is in TRUE degrees in the Hornet (but I have no real-life experience of flying with an ATK radar, I have no idea why only the radar is in TRUE, but I will ask a friend of mine who is has flown the Hornet just to check on this one, and will report later here. This is why we see a 7 degrees difference between the 2 : the magnetic declination in the region of the Black Sea now in 2018 is around 7 degrees East. That means that from TRUE to MAG, one must subtract 7 degrees If one wants to have TRUE degrees in the HUD and HSI, (I have no idea why one would want that, although, it might be a good thing because of what I will say later...), this can be dialed in the DATA page of the HSI under A/C with the button labelled MAG HDG, changing it to TRUE HDG. Then, the word TRUE appears at the top of the HSI and a T appears under the heading tape of the HUD. Now, what is less compliant to real life practices is the fact that the runways at all Air Bases are labelled with their TRUE headings where in real life they are always labelled according to their MAG headings, and this is why their numbers might change over time because the magnetic declination varies with the years passing, as did point out Deano87 in a previous post. The other thing that is very strange is the fact that ATC gives you vectors in TRUE degrees (I just made a quick experiment to make sure and it is unfortunately the case!! And it is the same with the AWACS BRA calls, they are given in TRUE degrees… In real life, when ATC gives you a vector, it is always in MAG degrees. (Not sure about AWACS, no experience there…) So to summerise, as El Bastardo just said above about the game: ‘Hornet shows magnetic heading by default, and F10 map, AWACS calls and Mission Editor are all referencing true north’ And I would add that : -magnetic for navigation instruments in the Hornet are like in real life to be MAG -F10 map and ME are right to be TRUE BUT!: -Runway headings are wrong to be in TRUE and ATC calls are wrong to be in TRUE (a good example is something we all learn when you learn to fly: when you taxi to the runway, and you are cleared by ATC to LINE UP RUNWAY XYZ, you enter the runway and you always check if the big numbers printed in big white paint on the runway are the same as your heading in your navigation instruments: HSI if you have one, but usually DG and compass)
  16. Wow JARL that is quite a great spreadsheet that you have done!!! Imagine if the ground units and weapons had dates as well... and if ED accepted to incorporate this info in a searchable field of the encyclopedia... actually I am amazed that there is no search engine or filters in the Encyclopedia... it is not a great tool now...
  17. Just to help mission building process, I thought that it would be really nice (and probably simple to implement) to have a simple filter in all the DCS lists (units list in ME or weapons dropdown menu in the Encyclopedia, etc.) in order to sort things in relation to the ERA of combat? I find it difficult sometimes to have some WWII weapons and... cruise missiles in the same dropdown menu... With the list of (fantastic) modules and units getting longer and more diverse every year in DCS, it would be pertinent to have a filter that could manage the info into such categories as: -WWII -Vietnam era -Korean war era -Cold war era -present day (?) for example...
  18. I agree 1000% I have experienced all the above mentionned reasons to implement this myself ...and just even for the sake of pleasure!! I recall one particular campaign that I did abandon because I had to fly for 15 minutes to get somehere where I was systematically shot down and I really wanted to try different tactics to get better.. but after having to cold start and fly for 15 minutes everytime.. i just let it go... bummer... Pleasee ED, listen to this request!!!
  19. I agree totally. So many times, especially with new systems, weapons or units, I want to see what it is and my first instinct is to look in the encyclopedia, and almost always I dont find what I am looking for and revert to going to wikipedia... -missing units and weapons/models/variants -incomplete info -different names than in the mission editor etc... One type of info that should be included in ALL entries in my opinion is the range/rate of fire/lethality, of a particular weapon since this is vital for mission building... Since DCS mission editor units lists are based on model numbers, it would be really helpful to have an encyclopedia that has ALL the same elements that are included in the sim, dynamically, always! thanks
  20. Chih-wei Congrats on your first post! Welcome to this old community!!!
  21. Wow! Rudel, that did it!!! First I did as you said and copied the view lines in server.lua from the view.lua file as you said, named it correctly (took a couple of tries) and nothing worked... now I did what you just said and LO it works! What I understand now is that those 2 numbers 20 and 140 are the lower and upper limits of the zoom axis and the default view is in the middle! therefore before I had something like 80 degrees (too close in my setup) and now with 50 and 190 my default view is now something like 120, just what I wanted!!! good to know!! thanks!
  22. Snacko, the problem for me is that after I do this, whenever I activate (unpause) my TrackIr, the view reverts back to what it was before... (much too zoomed in for me)...
  23. Hi Rudel I have been following this thread with great interest. Perhaps you can help me? My problem is with the F/A-18C's FOV. I am using Tir and I dont have any view limitation problems, I can zoom in (Z axis) very very close, etc... My problem is rather how to save or how to tell DCS a default FOV setting for my F/A-18C... I am using 3 screens with TripleHead2Go (3840X1024) and TiR I tried the solution proposed by David OC in THIS thread... But the minute I activate (unpause) my TiR, the FOV reverts to its original 80 degrees (which makes a very very closed in zoom with 3840X1024...) I need a FOV of approx 120 degrees to be comfortable... I remember that in the old days of Flaming Cliffs, there was a clear line in the view or config LUA file where one could edit the FOV of the game and later of each aircraft, but now I am not sure anymore how to do it, thanks Any hint? thanks
