  1. Thanks David OC, after 15 years of LOMAC-FC-DCS I never knew about the fact you could change the FOV in the game like that... I always thought one had to mess up with config LUA files... BUT... I dont know what I am doing wrong, but after I have adjusted the FOV as you said and did hit RALT-NUM0 (and yes the SAVE USER SNAPVIEWS is selected in options), when I unpause my Tir back to life, the FOV reverts to the previous setting... any idea whats wrong? thanks!
  2. perhaps THIS post can help you? I had the same problem and it solved it.
  3. actually, just made a small experiment and I was very surprised! With dynamic weather, the wind barbs are indeed showing the normal way (like a flowing arrow) and pointing in the direction where the wind is going!!! I was not able to check the wind speed wether it was in knots or m/s because ATC wouldnt give me the winds for takeoff... but they seemed close to what I was seeing in knots (with the barbs...). IRL you get the weather from any source in terms of the direction FROM which the wind is blowing and on the weather maps, the barbs show the direction TO which the wind is blowing. If the wind is indicated 18015 in the METAR, you have a wind of 15 knots blowing FROM the south (180) and you would get, on weather maps, an arrow pointing north with one long and one short barbs... In DCS, the barbs are the same, but in static weather, when you input the wind with the little rotating dial, you punch in the direction INTO which the wind is blowing (just like the arrow of the barbs but contrarily to normal WEATHER REPORTS AND METARS...) all this is confusing... add to this that in order to takeoff on Runway 360 one has to taxi in a 180 degrees direction to be at the south end, pointed north of course, with a wind coming FROM 360 therefore blowing TO the south, and the windsock 's cone is also pointing to the south... Or better : you get a 360 wind... that is why you takeoff runway 360... (because you takeoff AGAINST the wind...):megalol::megalol::megalol:
  4. This rises an old issue... in all aviation, the wind direction is always the direction the wind is coming FROM!!! when you ask the tower for a wind check and they say WIND 180 AT 15 it means that the wind is blowing FROM the south at 15 knots (in most of the world...). I find it very complicated to translate the DCS way (which for some strange reason, not only it is the direction the wind is blowing TO! ... and on top of this... in meters per second...). If I may, let me quote : ''Wind direction is always given as a radial measure in degrees stating the direction from which the wind is blowing'' from the SKYBRARY website Takling about the m/s problem, we know that meteorological stations in many European countries including Russia give the wind in m/s... and I think that it would be nice if in the ME or UI we had the possibility to switch from international knots to m/s if we wanted, just like we can go from metric to imperial at a switch of a menu... BUT I AGREE THAT THIS THREAD IS IN THE WRONG PLACE:music_whistling:
  5. Thanks Matt, nice to hear it from you!!! While waiting for this feature, I do use masaIV's technique myself. This is all part of enhancing SA... By the way, talking about the SA placeholder, will ED implement the 'INTEGRATION OF TACTICAL IMAGERY' as described in the paper in the link quoted in this thread? thanks so much for listening to us like this all the time!!:) JEFX
  6. Sorry if I missed a post somewhere, but does anyone know what is intended to be implemented at some point in the future for Bullseye navigation or Bullseye SA? a graphical aid or something? (Similar to the F-16??)?
  7. Acutally, since we are talking about it, one of my whishes would be for DCS to implement meteo just like in real life... with METAR reports (with wind direction where the wind is FROM), with the wind in Knots, and with the sky in Octas... another thing that I find very strange in DCS is the cloud system in 0-9... In real aviation, clouds are measured : SKC (sky clear) 0/8th of the sky FEW 1/8 to 2/8 of the sky SCT (scattered) for 3/8 to 4/8 BKN (broken) for 5/8 to 7/8 OVC (overcast) for 8/8 on top of that, just as winds have various layers with altitude, clouds can have layers of different composition... It would be soooo cool if DCS implemented a more advanced weather system (just like normal simulators like X-Plane and Prepar3D) and it would be more like WORLD... like... This is an example of the METAR report today in Montreal : METAR CYUL 061600Z 32014G26KT 30SM SCT040 BKN240 22/11 A3004 where we see the Zulu time of the observation but most important and something that would be so cool to see in DCS: 32014G26 is : wind coming from 320 degress at 14 knots gusting 26 knots 30SM is : visibility 30 statute miles SCT040 BKN240 is : a layer of scattered clouds at 4000 feet and another layer of broken clouds at Angels 24 or FL240 (24000') 22/11 is: temperature is 22 degrees celsius (get use to it folks...) and dew point 11 degrees A3004 is : pressure (Altimeter) is 30,04 inch of Mg (QNH of course!!! it is pointless to give QFE...) anyways, we are far from that... we are still getting the winds in meters per seconds... and blowing in the direction it is blowing, and sky half full of clouds at 8/10 and overcast at 9/10... just some thoughts...
  8. I agree with you all that this is all very confusing (especially between the editor, the F10 map, the other aircraft, the DCS level aircraft, etc... not talking about the weather... where the winds are reverse than usually and given by ATC in meters per second...
  9. see another post I just answered: magnetic VS true
  10. Hi! There is a rule in all aviation : what is WRITTEN is true, what is SAID is magnetic (including of course the instruments in the aircraft)... therefore, maps are ALWAYS true (with the proper deviation indicated in the legend). On the other hand, if you listen to the ATIS before taking off (I mean IRL), the weather described is SAID therefore magnetic (contrarily to the weather in the METARs which is WRITTEN therefore TRUE).
  11. Dear all passionate fellow simmers... My intentions was to have a clean thread of REALLY true Hornet drivers' videos... But in a way I am happy to see that Lex's videos are stirring up a lot of interest, because I must say that in my whole 'carreer' of simulators (including Falcon 4.0, LOMAC, FC 1-2-3, DCS and also X-plane 8-9-10-11...) I have never seen someone explaining so well real life training (just like I got with my instructor in ground school right before every flight on a very more modest level of general aviation..). But perhaps, if we can keep that thread as clean as possible, we might save a very precious ressource here...
  12. @JIMJAM: I can see your point very well. It always depends where we are arriving from... For example, I am a professionnal musician, and I would never want to do scales and arpeggios in a sim.. ;) Especially that the military training is deisgned the hard way... ( I guess for efficiency reasons over stressful events). But still, in a this Sim world there are always hundreds of guys asking questions or looking for answers (including me) and hundreds of other guys giving answers, many of them (often very modest) are incredibly knowledgeable... But... too often, people give answers based on their (limited to the sim world), experience and it is VERY hard to filter out what is REAL info or what is suppositions or assumptions made by people who have never flown an aircraft at all... That is why I feel that the mods should Sticky that thread I made with all those videos of Talionis and A.E. W. to make it clear that they are from real F-18 pilots... here Anyways, I agree 100% with you about the checklists, they should be in the manual!!!
  13. As requested by some of you, I have made a new thread with all the Youtube videos embedded: the ones from Lex Talionis and the ones from A.E. W. hoping the devs will make it a sticky. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=213934 I dont know, I have the funny impression that all that procedural stuff that I personally love (especially being a pilot myself, it really speaks to me very much!) might be a bit too much detailed and strict for many casual gamers and in the end, this gold mine will get lost in the very numerous threads about this and that... too bad! 17. please, DEVS, make this a sticky perhaps together with A.E. W. videos We need to find the real REAL instructional stuff in one place !!
  18. OUPS SORRY, It doesnt seem to be working like that, here is the Pitching decks US Navy
  19. ${1} Here is a fantastic video (if you have never seen it) : PITCHING DECKS
  20. Thanks for posting! I agree with everyone, these are the most instructive videos and they SHOULD be at least in a sticky and perhaps ask him to do the official training stuff!!! It is great to see him explain on paper just like my flight instructor used to do all the time... reminded me so much of this (just very humble general aviation... but the principle of visualising is the same!!) There are too many people here on this great forum who perhaps speak like if they knew everything... and there is nothing like the real knowledge gained from real life experience... Very precious!! better than the manual!
  21. Thanks pimp, exactly what we needed to understand how this function works for now...
  22. Anybody has any more pertinent info on that (promising) feature? For now it seems a bit useless? I ws thrilled when I saw the title... I thought we could make large groups of static objects that I thought we would be able to place wherever we want on the map... but for now this feature seems a bit limited? is planned to be different? devs? thanks!
  23. thanks for your answer sslechta. I didnt mean on the multiplayer platform but rather campaigns with a series of missions (like the SP campaigns) but playable for 2 people, for practicing... ??
  24. By the way, HiJack, if you dont mind me asking, I have a question about Multiplayer. I have played SP since LOMAC 2004! But multiplayer is fairly recent : are there good multiplayer campaigns (or collections of multiplayer missions) that I could play with my buddy? and how to host them ? where to look for these? (I am not talking about a live server but rather campaigns like Bear Trap or other but that I could play with my friend? thanks JF
