  1. Oh nice, don´t own the supercarrier, so I didn´t know it´s in the works. Is there a list of planned functions somewhere ? But anyway, I think this should be a core feature and not only for the carrier.
  2. I always find it a bit weird that the pilot already sits in the aircraft and then tells the ground crew "Oh, could you please exchange these Mavericks for a pair of JDAMs, and add a fuel tank. And also, I don´t like the color of the aircraft, please repaint it" So, I would really like to see a Briefing Room, a room where you start missions in, you can review the mission briefing, select your aircraft and your loadout. This could also act as a multiplayer lobby, so when you join a server, you are put in the briefing room, instead of just being presented with a rather long list of aircraft slots. Make the F10 map available there, so players can see what´s going on in the current mission without blocking one of the player slots. Give it a chat function as well, so players can discuss the mission.
  3. Depends on which year you are referring to I think we´d be happy if the F4 is ready until the end of this year. If we are really lucky, there might be nice screenshots of the Typhoon by the end of the year, but I wouldn´t expect anything more than that.
  4. I just mentioned it, because the whole thing was discussed in this forum before and some people wanted this to be enforced (though I can´t find the thread anymore)
  6. I would buy the pack if it had some late war russian assets that could be used to create missions set in the Korean war era. Have something for the F-86 and Mig 15 to fight over.
  7. Yeah, I´ve been flying the F-86 recently and love it. Building missions for it is kind of difficult without fitting assets. I would love to have like a T-34, AAA, artillery pieces like a Katyusha or something... maybe some bomber aircraft...
  8. Not sure if you´ve seen their videos before ... but calling DCS a game is kind of a running gag, at least on Movers channel, hence his reaction when Wags called it a "sim game" They consider it a game and made that clear in previous videos.
  9. No, though I don´t use an office chair that could move left/right. My seat is fixed, so I´d have to actively lean out of the chair to reach through the cockpit glass.
  10. I couldn´t get DCS to start in VR with the MT version, so I just kept using Steam VR and it works absolutely fine. Rendering in higher resolution is also normal to compensate for barrel distortion. But that has always been the case and did not change with the MT update. It´s also no problem to set the render resolution to something closer to the G2´s native resolution.
  11. It is, and I find it quite annoying and almost nauseating. If it is implemented in DCS, I hope it will be optional. My best advice is: Just don´t do it ! My head never leaves the cockpit unless I deliberately try to do it.
  12. Some might even call it a "sim game"
  13. Well I hope I learned my lesson to not buy early access stuff from Razbam I think for now I´ll uninstall the map to make space for Baldurs Gate 3 and check back with this map when it leaves early access...
  14. I feel you, when I moved out of my parents house, I scrapped around 150 game boxes (stored most of the contents somewhere in the basement) and just kept a few favorites. And yeah, purely digital games are more convenient, but sometimes I miss discovering all the goodies that came in those boxes...
  15. They talked about it in the video, those privately owned jets of course don´t have any of the weapon systems, but also stuff like radar, radio equipment and possibly other systems are removed. So they probably would get the flight model mostly right, but they wouldn´t have enough to simulate the rest to make it a viable full fidelity module.
  16. I´m quite new to the Sabre, but I´m loving it. So I thought I´d share some pics of my training session yesterday. I build myself a little training mission on Cyprus, and decided to learn how to shoot rockets... As usual, we took off from our homebase at Paphos at the southern end of Cyprus: The target was not too far away on the northern coast. It was quickly spotted (thanks to conveniently placed green smoke), so I readied the rockets and dove down. Scored some hits but didn´t do much damage (because I was aiming at the static objects I placed there instead of the trucks...) So the guns had to do most of the work: While my wingman was dropping his bombs on the target, I spotted two little dots coming in from the east: Unfortunately, the replay freaked out at this point, so I wasn´t able to take screenshots of the actual dogfight, but I´m proud to say that I scored my first ever aerial victory in DCS Didn´t have enough ammunition to engage the second one, so we headed home...Mission complete !
  17. On a lighter, more nostalgic note, look what I´ve found in the cupboard: Funny thing: When you look at the small pictures on the back of the boxes, the graphics look way better than I remembered them. Oh, and I think, I´ve posted this in another thread a while ago, but it fits nicely here as well:
  18. And again, you are making up numbers ... "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II became the fastest-selling Call of Duty game of all time.[58] The game earned US$800 million in revenue in its first three days of release,[59] and US$1 billion within 10 days"
  19. Again, not exclusive to flight sims. The first Tomb Raider 1996 had a budget of 440.000 (british) pounds while "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" 2018 cost a total of 135 Million Dollars...
  20. I´ll assume you just made up that "30x" number ... but even if it is correct, why should I as a customer care how much it cost to make a game ? What I care about is what is offered to me. If in the 90s, dozens of studios managed to create 95 flight sim titles for me to choose from and still make profits with it, and todays companies don´t, doesn´t that make the 90s more "golden" ? And as I said earlier, EVERY genre was x-times cheaper to make 30 years ago, whether it be action games, adventures, RPGs, Jump&Run ... that´s not special to flight sims.
  21. So you´re saying they weren´t better, yet as you said yourself you didn´t play any of them in the 90s ? OK, I´ll try one more time: "Golden Era" doesn´t necessarily mean that each of those games was "better" than DCS in a 1:1 comparison. Of course, none of those sims would hold up to DCS in the simulation aspect. But, most if not all of those had stories, campaigns, some even dynamic campaigns, nice intros, (rendered) cutscenes that told a story, NPCs you could talk to, etc. In these aspects they were better than DCS. And the number of titles is quantifiable. Every couple of months/weeks, you were presented with a new sim, with a new story, setting, better graphics, etc. that you got excited for. Of course, in DCS you can get equally excited when a new module is announced, but the thing is: You´ll probably have to wait for it for 1-2 years ... Don´t get me wrong: I´m happy with DCS and combining all modules in one sim has it´s own merits. I would probably agree on that, but mainly because the whole gaming market itself has grown a lot since the 90s. The total player count today is most likely higher, but I don´t think the percentage of the whole gaming market is.
  22. I watched that yesterday and it was much more fun and entertaining than I thougt it would be. Those 2 hours flew right by. Absolutely recommend to watch.
  23. I don´t think anyone in this thread said flight sims are dead. We wouldn´t be here if they were... Maybe we should rename the thread into "The good old times" and just share those fond memories ...
  24. Ah yes, 3dfx was a real gamechanger, I remember my first flight sim with 3dfx was Longbow 2. Back then, we thought this was "almost photorealistic" I think my first multiplayer experience was "Flight of the Intruder" in 1991, of course I had to carry my computer over to my friends house and we hooked them up with a cable. But that was great fun, I was shooting down Migs with the F4 while my friend was bombing in the A6. Yeah, the discussion isn´t going anywhere, but it brings back good memories. Edit: Wait no, in 91, I was still playing on my Amiga, so it had to be later, I don´t think I played that on the Amiga, but I´m not sure...
