  1. MonsterTech Centre mounts. The MFD includes the Cubesim display and needed to cut out the slots on the MonsterTech plate for the USB and Power Cable for the Cubesim displays. As stated not cheap but superb quality, the Virgil Control Panel mounts are also the MonsterTech angle side mounts that could be used with new MonsterTech mounting plates
  2. Excellent presentation on Luftwaffe Fuel and Engine Development in WW2 especially regarding the limits on late FW-190 Manifold Pressure despite high fuel octane ratings. Overall the more that I can learn about the luftwaffe is that they were not in the same league as the Allies, somewhat similar the IJAAF and the IJN - excellent training at the start of the war then overwhelmed by the scale and industrial demands of the war. Luftwaffe was further hindered by wasted effort on too many wonder weapon projects/blind alleys
  3. Pre-ordered, good value too
  4. Great Tutorial video, can take off, but now realise how many mistakes that I have been making. Thanks
  5. The Merlin and Packard engines ran there coolant at much higher pressure and therefore temperature than the Daimler Benz - due to much better metallurgy and casting. The higher temperature results in a much higher radiator LMTD which improves efficiency. An excellent summary of the development of the respective engines. And as per the presentation the fastest piston engine plane ever was a specially tuned Mustang. The video also shows how large the Bf-109 radiators really were and the low quality compared to the Spitfire radiators. At the end of the war the quality of manufacturing in Germany must have been terrible. The same was the case in Japan where metallurgy and quality as well as palm fuel had a terrible effect on the IJAF/IJN The anecdote about the Mustang outclimbing the Bf-109 is Bud Anderson on Dogfights I am sure
  6. The standard Thrustmaster Warthog grip is the same as the Thrustmaster F-16 grip, don’t waste any money on that as it offers nothing. I have the FSSB R3 mounted on the Monster Tech mount and indeed the mounting plate is all that you need to mount on the MonsterTech desk mount, though to be honest I just bought a new assembly. I think you have the long desk mount so I would order a standard desk mount. I also have a Sahaj 100 mm extension specially for the Realsimulator (i gave him the dimensions of the sleeve nut), this is because the Realsimulator F-16 and F-18 extended sleeve nut does not fit over the standard extension tubes from Virpil, MFG or even the standard Sahaj extension. See the picture of the FSSB R3/F-18 grip versus the Gunfighter/MCG Ulimate bases and rips mounted on the MonsterTech standard desk mounts For the F-18 I have the standard finish and actually the rough finish is good when used, it feels strong and pleasant to use, much higher quality that the Virpil, or VKB plastics and the buttons are superb quality. The F-16 grip is the Custom Edition which has a smoother finish, which I don’t like as much as the standard finish. There is a new rubberised finish, but the cost delta is excessive. Both the F-18 and the F-16 have the Bluetooth (the reason for purchasing the Custom Edition) and can be used with any other base and still retain added functionality, but this in no use to you as the FSSB would cover the functionality. I am waiting to see the details on the F-35 grip and if it has the paddle (which the F-16 does but the F-18 grip doesn’t) I am pretty sure I will purchase it. One thing to add is the customer support, I have emailed them once and got immediate response - the trigger on the F-18 was getting sticky. They are a small company and provide excellent customer support - check out the forums - not many posts there really but they usually are addressed - better than VKB and Virpil http://www.realsimulator.com/FSSB_R3_Forum/index.php?sid=863e6d618765863f3d8157a9388abe91 With the FSSB base you input a demand by entering a force to the grip (the extension tube helps, but the software allows you to set the force range to lower values). That input then creates a changes in state of the plane. The plane maintains that change of state even when you then remove the force on the grip, e.g there is no centering effect - where the plane attempt to restore to the original state as would be the case with a standard base. To change the plane state requires further force input. This does not sound significant but it is intuitive and makes flying FBW planes super precise. There is also no centre dead zone required
  7. Mongo5725 go to around 8:34 in the YouTube video and it is covered. Need to watch the video all the way through that was my error
  8. There is also a Mig-17 Fresco in development, that will be interesting for the Straights of Taiwan scenario against F-86 and potentially against the F-8 and A-6 as well as the community A-4. The main killer of the Mig-17 in Vietnam was the F-105……
  9. For the Viper, and to be honest any modern FBW plane, I would only recommend the Realsimulator FSSB R3 base as a force sensing base. It is based on the Thrustmaster pin connector so is incompatible with VKB grips, but then Realsimulator make some amazing grips too, with an F-35 grip in the pipeline. I have the FSSB R3 and the Realsimulator F-18 Grip mounted on a MonsterTech with 100 mm extension, it can be used either centre mount or Right Hand mount as in the Viper etc. I do have the Realsimulator F16 grip but that is used for the Warbirds with a Brunner FFB base The Thrustmaster grip is weak at the mounting point and there are reports of the grip failing at the base when used with the Realsimulator base. The Realsimulator grips have a much extended and secured collar compared to the Thrustmaster nut I have the MCG Ultimate as well and it is fantastic, just incompatible with the bases I have and is sadly only really used for Russian jets Mig-19 and Mig-21. These jets use hydraulics and do not have any force feedback so the Gunfighter base and MCG Ultimate are not a compromise. Just wish that there was an interface to allow the VKB grip to be used on a Thrustmaster pin mount base
  10. School boy error, the DCS Stream Deck Plug In is based on the standard DCS installation folder and not the DCS Open Beta folder, changed the ID Lookup Folder setting to the Open Beta installation and now have the functionality
  11. For example in the UFC page for the F/A-18 when I press the A/P button nothing happens in the game. When i press the game A/P button I get the screen for the Auto Pilot options but pressing buttons 1 through 5 on the stream deck does nothing. That is what I am lost about at the moment, am I doing something wrong?
  12. Hi sknowledge and depth can not be questioned for sure and through his videos I am getting a much better grasp on how and why the planes were optimised the way they were, choosing the best compromise for the selected profile. He also addresses some technological dead ends where cost were excessive - the P-47 for example was more expensive than the P-51 and the differential in performance did not justify the cost, but oh to try a P-47 M or N
  13. Hi All, I must be doing something wrong and looking for some help from the community. My Stream Deck XL arrived and installed and I have set up the applications and these all worl as advertised It is the next steop getting the profiles to work with DCS. I have installed the DCS Bios and the DCS Export Script based on the youtube link in the posting https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317152/ I can get the Stream Deck to perform simple F1- F12 applications as per the attached screens hot, however the more complex UFC issues such as on the F/A-18 profile do not work Clearly I am a complete noob and not doing something correctly. I have the export.lua file looking at the svaed games folder C:\Users\XXXXX\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Scripts\DCS-ExportScript Is this correct or should I install all the default.lua files in the individual C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Input\FA-18C\keyboard Any help that can get the Stream Deck working to the potential that I think it can and the potential I was hoping for is much appreciated Thanks
  14. Was interested before, now this is a day one purchase
  15. Just ordererd the Steam Deck XL and looking for help in how to install the profiles. I have read the posts and it seems for a complete noob that creating a profile is something from 10 to 20 hours of commitment, anything that can accelerate that process from the community is appreciated. Specifically looking for A-10CII, F/A-18. F-16, F-14 and especially the Mirage M-2000C - any help is appreciated I do fly Warbirds and early Cold War jets mainly and these are can mainly be managed through the HOTAS, though the communication menu and the sub menus using the Function Keys are still using a clunky keyboard
  16. Very interesting and thoroughly researched article on the Corsair versus the Bf-109 and the FW-190, and the Hellcat. Long but worth if you don’t mind the monotonal delivery

    Corsair Hype!

The Corsair was adopted in 1943 by FAA but it was not till April 44 that it was used in combat operations, this seems reasonable considering the training required for a new aircraft. The operation against Tirpitz was Operation Tungsten and the Wikipedia page states the Luftwaffe was relativity small and short of fuel by this time, again seems reasonable considering that the USAAF had just finished big week operation where the Luftwaffe in the west was largely defeated. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Tungsten wikipedia is not always the most accurate source of information

    Corsair Hype!

I think that more recent views of Eric Brown detect a bias, he certainly was a naval aviator first and foremost and the Corsair was not rated fo carrier operation till 44 in Fleet Air Arm - long after its introduction in the Pacific. However as a pilot who not only debriefed the Luftwaffe, but also flew several poor quality aircraft after the war including the He-162 and I believe the Me-163 I can understand the safet bias, flying planes that were put together by slave labour would require an inherent safetty perspective. Either way he occupies an almost unique position in aviation history and experience
  19. Considering the era of WW2 USAAF and USN planes that are/will be available in DCS the A6M will be outclassed. The IJN did use them to the end of war, sadly more often as Kamikaze so they can be placed but would be outclassed. I would prefer to see the Ki-84 which was produced in relatively large numbers and along with the N1JK1/2 was used as escort for the Kamikaze missions to Okinawa where they faced the F4U, F6F and also the P-51D when over the mainland. That would be a much more balanced engagement. there is only 1 surviving Ki-84 which was originally airworthy in Chino, CA but sadly when returned to Japan fell into disrepair. Chino also has the J2M3 whilst RAF Cosford has the Ki-100 both interesting late war IJN/IJA aircraft with the latter scoring the last kill against a P-51 in the war

    Corsair Hype!

I no longer have the book, but did read it a long time ago. From recollection you are right, he preferred the F6F over the Corsair. I do recall that in the duel between the F6F and the Bf-109G he gave the result to the F6F. I think he disliked the Bf-109 more than the Corsair. Eric Brown preference was always the FW-190 and always rated this highly along with the Spitfire as the two equal best fighters of the war. The Fleet Air Arm adopted the curved approach to the carrier which allowed the Fleet Air Arm to use the Corsair from carriers before the US Navy. The Fleet Air Arm did use the Corsair in Europe mainly in anti shipping missions as fighter cover along the Norwegian coast in the summer of 1944, but I do not believe they ever engaged the Luftwaffe there. In any case I am looking forward to this iconic fighter and fighter bomber that served in WW2 and Korea being added to the environment.

    Corsair Hype!

Looking forward to the Corsair, would prefer the early Marines version as this is the Blacksheep version. interesting article comparing the FW-190A4 to the Corsair regarding manoeuvrability - the Corsair was regarded as the better dog fighter. http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/fw190/ptr-1107.pdf Eric Brown compared many planes in Duels in the Sky, and I can’t quite recall the comparison of the Corsair versus the Bf-109 G6, but have a feeling that he would prefer the Corsair
  22. I had the issue of the brakes being calibrated in configuration software but only providing 50%-100% in windows ano thus all windows games, I contacted Milan at MFG and he quickly pointed out that the FAQ on the website addresses these issues. Feeling stupid, for not RTFM, i read the FAQ and indeed it did address the issue. Strongly recommend to read the FAQ to avoid feeling my embarrassment. I apologised to Milan and he was gracious https://mfg-sim.com/en/content/6-faq
  23. To the best of my knowledge and experience, if the item is used and is more than 6 months old it does not incur duty, so sending from EU to UK would not incur additional expense, however the paperwork is another story.
  24. Came across this site to own a piece of aviation history and immediately bought the Bf-109 G10 (similar to K4) and the F-86, unfortunately the P-47 is no longer available but for sure the P-51 will be the next one on order. https://planetags.com/collections/vintage-aircraft The difference in the skin thickness is marked between the Bf-109 and the F-86, with the F-86 much thinner - a higher grade of material

  25. I have a couple of Cubesim displays for use with the Thrustmaster MFD. In other modules, including the AV8B and Mirage 2000C I can export the MFD/radar display to one of the secondary displays. Is this possible also for the Farmer
