  1. 1. On the F10 Map, ALT-Y toggles the different coordinate systems. Yes it is a pain that different actions require different coordinate systems. 2. Haven't seen this. Entry error? Calculation Error? 3. YES you must also BOX WPDESG and the WPT indicator will turn into a TGT label. Boxing WPT just displays WPT info. To make a Target you have to WPDESG. 4. In AG MAP mode you can use TDC to designate a point on the MAP for SEA/GMT mode you use the SSS in the direction of the DDI 5. Weapon labels are sometimes confusing. You just have to learn them. MOST are self-explanatory. The CBU example is NOT. The RETURN option, however is RTN if I recall correctly so no conflict.
  2. It has been a constant source of amusement for me in the BUG forums: "RWR framajance is off by 2 degrees" OMG! THANK YOU! WILL BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY "Missiles never fire" INVESTIGATING/MAYBE LATER/CORRECT AS IS (OK a tiny bit of hyperbole here...)
  3. I hated the Maverick Boresighting in the F-16 (BMS) which I guess is also a thing in DCS F-16 but not in the F/A-18 (YET) and wasn't in the Harrier. I could just hear the rivet counter pearls being clutched!!
  4. That is what I meant
  5. OK can someone enlighten me here. Given the constraints of weapon Video and TPOD that has been extensively discussed, I am confused by the contradictory "LOBL" type and the contention that "the missile can't be guided by the Launching Aircraft" If you create a Target Point from TPOD video, I assume that is still the point to which the Maverick gets slaved (locked on before launch) regardless of whether or not the TPOD video is still up. I agree that LOBL means you cannot do any mid-course correction "guidance" once launched for an AGM-65F but the INITIAL designation is still possible with any Sensor of the launching aircraft, correct?
  6. Wow... did that whole other thread, 11 + pages just get summarily DELETED? Never mind. I saw the latest RAZBAM post. Nothing to see here.. move along
  7. Dare I be struck down by the Gods of Realism, but I have made peace with using the small dot labels as a visual aid. Whenever I fly in a commercial airliner I am struck by how easy it is to spot cars and trucks on the roads below even at fairly high altitudes. Much easier than in any Flight Sim I have tried, including DCS. Doubly hard in DCS when vehicles are not on a road but blended into greenery. I feel like the small dots are actually a better representation of what the eye can make out from the distance to get you in the right direction. Also make use of the TPOD aids where I can USUALLY pick something up even before the label becomes visible, but it is a crapshoot getting the pod CLOSE enough to the actual target area when given rough coordinates to be able to get it onto a vehicle in the clutter.
  8. Yes.. Seems like it was reported back in May.. I guess we wait..
  9. Here is a little video (crude) showing the process of: - Locking FLIR on target via WP DESG and SLEW to lock -Uncaging MAVF page to FLIR target location. -UNDESIGNATE with TDC on MAV page FLIR goes to BORESIGHT (MAV stays ground stabilized) -HOLD DOWN TDC DEPRESS to SLEW Maverick Seeker. (if you have Realistic TDC unchecked in your Options, you MAY not need to hold TDC depress) -When Seeker is in range for a decent contrast LOCK, releasing TDC DEPRESS locks the MAVERICK. -After firing, the Seeker will CAGE to Boresight. TDC Depress will UNCAGE and allow slew. You can re-acquire another target with the MAV seeker. In this video, I didn't see the tracking gates collapse, so I didn't think it got the second target, but both did get hits. This was the simple case with stationary targets, so I didn't go to POINT/AUTO track.
  10. Reported several times....(Undesignate wiping TOO coords) let's hope it gets addressed
  11. Just to clarify... AGM-65F or AGM-65E? For -E you need to illuminate with laser before you can fire (but you should STILL be able to UNCAGE and have the x marker slew to a designated target. It just won't FIRE until you have Laser illumination and the x turns to a solid box). The following refers to AGM-65F: Also, did you allow enough time for Cool. Even when you do uncage, there is a timer in the upper left of the WPN Video page that needs to count down before you can fire. SOMETIMES even when cooled down, uncaged and slaved to a target, it will not fire because the Maverick hasn't achieved a contrast lock. I find sometimes repeating CAGE/UNCAGE works, or in the worst case scenario, undesignating the current target (IF desgination is done by another sensor) and slewing the MAV seeker slightly to pick up the target. If targeted by the MAV Seeker, you can slew without undesignating (hold down TDC depress while slewing) But as others have said, make sure TDC is assigned to Maverick and Maverick is Uncaged (Master ARM ON) Also were the ships MOVING? If so, and if you didn't target them either with the TPOD in PTRK (AUTO for ATFLIR) so the designation was continuous or with the Maverick Seeker (or with SEA RADAR) then your target point might be over water instead of on the ship and you wouldn't have a MAVERICK lock even though the other sensors were tracking that point. A .trk file would be useful.
  12. Yeah, that is why I posted as a question instead of jumping into the BUG REPORTING forum. Between the reasonable explanations of velocity gate to filter out slower moving traffic, issues with ground clutter (though in my case I was pointing right at it almost co-altitude) it might just be how it works. I seem to recall reading something here about the efficacy of Air to Air radar against helos but I cannot seem to find it. DUH.... I must not have searched very well:
  13. I looked at the TRK. They were Mi-8's/ KA-27 at 80 knots indicated at 1500 ft. I was almost co-altitude (~2000 ft) when I put the radar boresight right on the sucker at about 4 miles or with GUNS ACQ . Aspect was pretty close to 0 so it wasn't a BEAM situation. Never saw ANY brick on the radar at any time in TWS... VID, AIM-9X tone.. boom! Along with some decent visual Guns passes But no radar locks. If it was a speed gate, maybe I should have tried GMT radar
  14. So last night, we flew a Helo Hunting mission. Could NOT pick up the Helos on radar (elevation set correctly) even when within Visual Range using AACQ BORESIGHT mode. AIM-9 seeker picked them up just fine as did visual acquisition for GUNS, but I would have thought those spinning rotors would have made a really good radar reflector especially when looking down from above. Bug? Operator Error? or are Helos this hard to pick up? Doesn't seem like ground based SAM radars have a problem and even with ground clutter and problems inherent in Look Down Shoot Down, I would have thought that BORESIGHT AACQ would have managed a lock.

    Harrier's JDAM

The other JDAM TOO caveat is to make sure your TOO spot is not directly on top of the target but at the intersection of the target and the ground as JDAM only seeks a ground position not any kind of lock. As I understand it, setting TOO right on top of a target will actually target a spot on the ground somewhat beyond it based on slant angle (unless, I guess, if your sensor is pointing STRAIGHT down when you make the designation which is almost never the case). EDIT: Oops... you already knew that. Sorry! My guess is that aiming with TGP is subject to error, but i can't be sure because i always try to aim to the ground where the target is but the result can change..
  16. Yes. It was changed to be similar to the ATFLIR with discrete steps for magnification (digital zoom) vs. the previous smooth more analog-like magnification. I think it was part of this from 20-May-2021 Litening TDC Diamond not showing on second try with TDC Depress - Fixed Maximum zoom - corrected to 3.5x AA mode can not slew diagonally - Fixed
  17. I love the Harrier, but every time I fly it SOMETHING confuses me especially with all the changes. Real world pilots say it is a very stable platform but I find it really hard to keep in trim. Still when it works, it is a great bomb truck!
  18. This might be helpful
  19. Hmmm I just tried it and did NOT see this behavior. Reticle stayed where it was after slewing in TV mode. Do you have TDC Action/No Action selected? In that case, IF you slew without holding TDC Depress, it will snap back to the previously Designated Target as you haven't made a designation. If you are HOLDING TDC Depress while slewing, it will re-designate when you release. I thought that was what you meant by "letting go of the TDC Slew Axis). If TDC Action/No action is NOT toggled on, then you will designate a target wherever you stop the slew.
  20. I usually leave it off since that is how I learned the Harrier before this feature was available. Sometimes it is confusing as in the F/A-18 I am used to mashing TDC depress for every desgination so there is muscle memory there.
  21. Double tap SCS Down to go into TPOD mode. You can sweeten the lock to your heart's content. Otherwise it remains SLAVED to whatever designation was originally made. There is the added complication of turning on TDC ACTION where you need to re-deisgnate with TDC Depress, but with it off, after slewing the TPOD, the new location will be effectively DESIGNATED. I know there is some hating on GR, but this video lays it out. NOTE there was a recent change around needing to box DESG in the EHSD, but otherwise this should get you the basics.
  22. DUHHHHHH... Thank you... My Bad... Sorry...
  23. Anyone seeing the Marianas map? I don't see it or the Instant Action Missions mentioned for it.
  24. This happens to me too. Fix is to go to the Window on the monitor and do an ALT-ENTER to make the DCS window Full Screen. Then you greatly minimize or completely remove the "clicking out of bounds" that loses focus.
  25. Have a look at this: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3300819/ Might be somewhat out of date, and I personally found it hard to follow, but it made more sense after getting familiar with the various DDI pages.
