Effect of hardware virtualization on cpu usage
Glide replied to skypickle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is a "red herring", and it has nothing to do with the DCS engine. Your GPU is designed to run at 100%, but with the CPU, after 50% performance starts to degrade. After 85% you are hitting max CPU utilization. The idea that if my CPU was only running at 100% I would have better FPS is just wrong. There are lots of threads here on how to tune DCS settings. Perhaps you should be more specific about what you are trying to achieve. Happy to help out. -
This is a very challenging problem to solve. If you are testing the AI attack ability, you want them to attack and not fly around for hours waiting for them to "decide" to attack. There has to be some predictability to their behaviour. Check out Growling Sidewinders video on the new AI. This is a work in progress, so it will get better.

If you haven't found the Matt Wagner tutorials on youtube, they are excellent.

I've been struggling to get my E-2D's to maintain a decent airspeed so their escorts don't have to hang in the air like kites. Can anyone share some tips for good AWACS/Escort setups for missions?

Shift+F10 will cycle through labels.

My understanding is that DCS runs on Lua virtual machines. They have not indicated they are changing that anytime soon. If you want to think about how they could possibly use multiple cores, then you should read up on scaling Lua. Coroutines are the components used to scale in Lua 5.0 and up. VM's in my experience (JVM's) don't scale to multiple cores. When I was spec'ing non-Intel hardware for JVM's, I would spec one core for the VM, and one for the OS. This was a few years ago though, so I may be out of date.

I'm not using any detent on mine. I never use the finger lifts. There is only one notch this way, and it sits right at full mil in the F-16. Perfect, IMHO.

Solution: How to fix stuttering in the Syria map.

Yeah, VR is a holy mess. I'm waiting for a miracle. Until then, the headset is just a novelty. -

BTW, Terrain Textures = Low, Textures =Med, Vis Range Low, Terrain Shadows OFF, is a good combo for cards that are short on VRAM. I haven't seen a stutter in 2d in ages even with my settings. Haven't tested VR with the latest yet. -

Hey bro, shared GPU memory is in RAM, but not as fast as VRAM. It does not get used until the Dedicated GPU memory is full, although there is a small allocation to it when the game launches. You can have Task Manager running while the game is on. I only use one monitor these days, so I have to alt-tab to see what's happening in the last few moments. The graphics on the second monitor get swapped out while the game is in fullscreen mode. This is handled by the windows desktop manager. -
Military and Aviation News Thread (NO DISCUSSION)

Can I add one? Not sure what to call this.

The key difference is the amount of VRAM on the cards. The Syria Map can easily use up 10GB of VRAM depending on units and visual quality. Get as much VRAM as you can afford.

You can bump up the "Engage Dist" under the Escort task as well. I know that's pretty obvious.

Congrats! I have my G2 set to 60hz with motion repo ON. This causes it to sync at 30fps which is fine by me. I run my PD in the VR tab at .5, and with this resolution I can add MSAA x4 SSAA 1.5, and more. You need to sharpen it up if you run low resolution like PD .5. I just gave the latest release "the Beirut test" (hard turns over the city at low alt), and experienced zero ground stutters. This is dogfight quality performance. If you are just cruising around at altitude you can turn up the PD. G2, 3080Ti, i7 11gen

That's by design. Try CTRL-ALT-DEL and launch task manager. This will get you to the desktop while the sim is running.

The ingame vsync is the most efficient. You can also try FAST in the Nvidia control panel. 1080p is still an excellent resolution. I run mine at 1080p on my 60hz 4k monitor. I can get 4k running smooth as silk, but my eyes like 1080p better.

It will fit like a glove! Some functions are not implemented yet, but all the basics are there. You already know how to fly this one if you have spent any length of time in BMS.

Awesome!

You can try it on for size for free.

I run Vis Range LOW, so I get a lot of things rising up out of the ground a low alt.
-
Thanks for this wonderful update! Beirut is looking amazing!

The sim seems sharper with greater depth perception in the last release. The current engine, IMHO, is the best yet. I love how they just keep surprising me with more quality!

I'm still geeking out on the Viper flight model improvements to even take my Apache out of the crates! Fabulous work! Thanks so much!
