This may be along shot, but the latest Nvidia drivers were a bit unstable for me until I did a Restore Defaults on the main 3D Settings Tab (not the DCS tab) in the Nvidia control panel.

Got my 3080Ti and HP G2 working quite well now. I still need to get new glasses made that will fit inside the headset, but for now an old pair of reading glasses is getting the job done. I fly at 4k in game with SSAA, MSAA, and Anisotropic filtering OFF. Now all I want to do is fly the Syria Instant Action mission in the F-16 and pretend Colt-1 is a refuelling tanker. LOL! Awesome stuff!

Agreed. They don't have damage modeling, destructive environment, all the combat bells and whistles. It seems like it's easier to port from the FSX, P3D, and even the XP world. I see they have a Google maps add-on for it now. Lots of innovation coming to the flight sim world.

Yep, we're over in this section to dream the future...

I can see how they might make it possible to fly anywhere in the world, but launch into "AO maps" for combat. Or ED could just port their mods to MSFS like IndiaFoxTecho and make tons of cash.

I love my F-16! I took this massive 20 year break from flight sims, and stepping back into that cockpit felt marvelous. Thank you thank you thank you ED! I love to just fly around. I am sure this sim saved my life during this horrible pandemic. Again, thanks ED.

Okay, I turned 60 this year, so I better not wait. I found a nice 3080Ti in a custom build from newegg. Should be lighting the fires by Christmas. Vroom VRoom

Thanks for the heads up. I have my eyes on the 3080Ti for next spring, and there is that other sim that is looking so good now that may be playable on my 1080Ti.

Yep, I can crank everything up in 2d and get 40ish fps at 4k, but at 1080p i can make it fly. Right now 2d is awesome, so if VR doesn't quite thrill me I can always go back. Cheers!

@speed-of-heat Thanks for all this hard work! My HP G2 is arriving on Wednesday. I've been tuning my system (I7-7700, 1080Ti) to run above 90fps based on your suggestions. I can get 90fps (2D) on the runway at Beirut on the Syria map and easily 120fps in other spots. Not bad for oldish hardware.

Winter flying is a must. Smooth air! Gotta love it!

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Glide replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Mine is collecting dust in the hangar with the Spitfire. Too bad about the takeoff performance. Nice try. -
If I have a favorite mission, and I want to make sure it's using the latest features of OpenBeta, how would I go about that? My usual approach is to start from scratch with the latest release. Is there some other way? Copy and Paste? Save as template?

Well, if you read the latest update, they will soon be multi-core cows with a new path-finding model AND rendered in Vulkan. A big thank you to the OP for asking about excitement coming down the pipeline. I think there's plenty.

I hear the stall horn for sure at 140kts, but I think it starts at 150kts. Weight is definitely a factor for approach speed. I find myself keeping my approach speed higher if I am coming in with over 3500lbs of fuel. I never think about AOA in the Viper. I just fly the "hook". I like to keep my FPM floating just over the hook until flare at the threshold. Once I enter the flare I center the hook with the FPM and put the FPM on the end of the runway with the horizon line. At this point I throttle back and settle onto the runway with the main gear. If I'm high in the flare I may hear the horn just at touchdown. If all goes well, when the main gear touch you can simply hold the flare as long as you can.

What countermeasures program do you use in the Viper?
Glide replied to Sneeki's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I like Program 3. I don't put a lot of radar guided A-A missiles in my missions. I'm also frugal with my stores. I used to dial in a 2 and 2 program, but I don't like that much buttonology these days. You can make 60 last for quite a while. With PGM 3, I usually run dry of countermeasures. I like to keep it simple. When I hear Betty call "Low" it would be nice to switch to a 2 and 2 program, but with PGM 3 you get the same level of protection for a shorter duration. With PGM 3 when you hear "Low" it's time to go. -
Welcome, and wow, all that wonderful discovery time ahead of you! Two bits of advice. Imagine that you are a real pilot, not a space invader trying for a high score. Fly like you think a real pilot would even if you are not a real pilot. For example, even though you are not going to refuel, fly to meet the tanker like you would, wave and carry on with the mission. Also, imagine you have cadets behind you. If I imagine that I have to explain my action to a cadet I think about what I am doing a bit more. This is also the type of radio chatter you might expect during a training flight. "Nose up 3 degrees, roll right 30 degrees, level at 2400, heading 300 etc." These two things should help you develop discipline and muscle memory.

Try the really big ones.

If you want to go sightseeing this is your bird. Quiet ride, great range, handles great in the canyons, no nags. Great flight model!
