Mission 4 Fighting alone
Cathnan replied to Cathnan's topic in F/A-18C Rise of the Persian Lion II Campaign
Yes, I could probably have returned to the carrier without fighting them. I chose to attack because I thought, "I didn't hear anything about the Mig's and am already at waypoint 2. I must have missed a trigger". That's on me though -
Communications menu issues
Cathnan replied to twiddle's topic in F/A-18C Rise of the Persian Lion II Campaign
I think the comms menu binding you used is for easy comms. It doens't work when easy comms are forced off. Not sure it's done in the campaign tho. -
Hi, I played mission 4 a few days ago, and am not sure it went as intended. I did ultimately succeed, but I splashed all 4 Migs on my own. And that only after first trying running for them. Matrix did not even offer to assist. I'm not sure what is supposed to happen here. Did it actually go as planned? Did I fly a path that lead to me not activating triggers and so on. That's why I'm not posting in the bug section. I did go high and rather fast after signal RTB. My guess is that I've overflown a triggerzone. My Tacview of the flight is attached. P.s. Are the Migs unarmed? Was already surprised during the flight and even more after watching the Tacview that I didn't get shot down. Had the kneeboard registering Supercarrier and Awacs calls earlier.

You don't need the files from Hollywood anymore. There is an installer but also a zip file with the files you need. You can get them at the community github here https://github.com/Penecruz/VAICOMPRO-Community/releases/tag/v2.8.0.0 and installation instructions here https://github.com/Penecruz/VAICOMPRO-Community

Thoroughly enjoyed the event. Didn't expect you actually put skeletons on the carrier deck when I saw it in the Halloween sale announcement. Also that green moon, and fog look awesome. Well done

I want to add my thanks to @Hollywood_315 for this awesome tool and making it open source. Also a MASSIVE thanks to the members of the community who picked it up. You guys rock

[Solved] VAICOM> no longer works with F-18 after DCS 2.8 update
Cathnan replied to IronStar95's topic in VAICOM
I respectfully disagree. It's not ED's job to to keep unofficial Add-ons that have seemed to stop development functional. This one is definitley not on ED, but on the Vaicom dev. It would however be great if ED could reach out to Hollywood if they have other means of reaching him to clarify what is going on with Vaicom. Just out of personal curiosity. What has the programming language to do with it stopping to work? When they way two programms communicate changes, It doesn't matter what language either of it is written in. Yes the internal functions are not offended. But also completley irrelevant. To keep the interface up to date is the job of Vaicom. Anything else would mean keeping ancient code around. Something ED is often heavily critiqued for in other places. -
Has ED ever tried reaching out to Hollywood? They gave him a Subforum. Maybe they have other means of getting in touch? Even if only to clarify it's dead.

I think it would be awesome to have this option. For SP I think it would make sense to have a check mark or button in the mission selector / before spawn, that let's you decide if you want a new jet or "your" jet. Especially for campaigns it would make sense. But obviously optional.

As we all know the replay tracks are inaccurate over longer periods of time. It is widely requested that a reliabe replay system is implemented. TacView - if installed - provides accurate recordings of every mission, and at a reasonable filesize. So I think it would be nice if TacView files could be loaded and replayed in DCS. The engine would only have to faithfully overlay the recorded paths with the units and projectiles. Certainly seems more easily done than it actually is, but I think that way the wheel wouldn't have to be reinvented from scratch, since at least the recording part is already done. All that's left is teaching DCS to provide the graphics to it. Would be amazing to not only have TacView recordings of epic dogfights and CAS missions, but being able to rewatch them in all their glory.

I have a problem that's related to this. I have a hard time focussing on it for a long period of time. Usually I can fly fine with it for a while but at some point I can't focus on it anymore. Meaning I can see everything inside the helo and the area outside just fine, only the IHADS get's blury. For this problem being able to adjust the position of the IHADS would be nice as well. Even if it's unrealistic it would be good for accesability. I think being able to position it a little bit further away from the eye would solve the problem for me. It's similar in the Hornet as well. I even went to the optician because of this and have glasses now for the first time ever because of this. Didn't notice I didn't have perfect vision before

You're aware life involves risks, aren't you? What if you order a shiny new car build after your custom order. Finally after months and months of waiting you're finally out your door on the way to the dealership to pick it up, but OH NO. A careless driver runs you over and you loose both your legs, and you shiny new car for you turns into an expensive - and very large paperweight. Why bother ordering in the first place if that can happen. Those are plans that are made. And plans are always made with assumptions and best available knowledge. In this case the assumption is that the third party actually intends to bring this module out, and the best available knowledge is that no one else is there who intends to bring this out sooner. And who says other 3rd parties are even interested in developing for DCS? Do you want ED to start knocking on doors? Cue those complaining about ED staff knocking on doors when they should work on the core instead. What would you say if two 3rd parties would develop the same module simultaniously because they didn't know of each other, but one of them would have been well able to develop a different module in the meantime? There are different ways to approach all this. And ED's way is up there among the best imo.

The way I've come to look at module/map announcements, is as a long term roadmap for DCS. I may get hyped if it's something I really want, but as the vast majority here I'm well passed my teenage years, and I know how to wait. So I remember it'll take years to come out, am happy to see what's to come and wait. The only thing I'd recommend, to manage expectations of newcomers would be to add a "ETA: TBD" at the end of the announcement trailer. So it's clear the release is a bit further down the line. That said, I'm not much of a prop plane flyer, but the skyraider does seem awesome. I'll definitley keep a closer look at it, especially if it gets torpedos. Can a Nimitz or Forrestal handle it?

Got it, user error. I grabbed the Stable version Server while running open Beta. Open Beta Server is found immediately.

I've been playing a lot of Foothold Syria lately, and this mission can be very taxing on the system. Mainly the CPU. So I thought try to spread out the load to at least one additional core by running a dedicated Server on the same maching. Make it do double duty. I have 64GB Ram and a Ryzen 7 3700x. Should be able to handle it just fine. Only I don't get the Server to show up in the Server list in Multiplayer. Is it possible to run the dedicated Server in the same network (or in my case literally the same computer)? I don't really like the idea of setting up portforwarding and punching holes in my firewall just to run a server on the same computer. I also thought about running a VM but that would increase the overhead even more.

HB said they'll release it as an AA plattform first. I don't know which missiles it will have but for ground pounding you won't have more than the gun in Air to Air mode as far as I know. AG will be added while in early access. I'd say that counts as base level functionality

going to need forcasting data if dynamic weather comes to fruition.
Cathnan replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in Wishlist
Haven't thought of this yet, but yes. We do need that then -
I get where you're coming from. I too would love to get an update on dynamic campaign, multicore and vulkan etc. But I have a bit of a different perspective. 3rd party devs working on maps and modules leaves ED resources for core development while the cash flow remains. So I think that's actually a good thing
-
I feel that wouldn't be in the spirit of DCS if you mean by that ED should simply do an educated guess on what their performance probably is without hard data to back that up. Would be dangerous territory for ED as well. I've seen people here complain about the sensor of the AIM 9X not move as many degrees/second as it apparently is supposed to be. If I were ED I wouldn't touch that with pliars while wearing a hazmat suite until I had data to back up my work.

correct as-is AZ/EL unavailable in NAV master mode
Cathnan replied to Hulkbust44's topic in Bugs and Problems
I always wondered why it wouldn't be available in NAV -
This still leaves me wondering why I still don't see it in tws/rws despite my radar antenna being within gun range Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

+1 for the request, and actually selectable spawn points like we have on airfields would be a HUGE help. I really don't want an E2 that I need on position when I launch be blocked again because my INS is not aligned yet.
