I stand to be corrected, but isn't mulithread and multicore two totally different technologies, that somewhat are meant to achieve the same goal? The way I always understood it was, multithreading is running multiple processes or parts of a single process on the same core at the same time. Multicore is taking advantage of a second or more cores. Both aim to achieve simultanious execution of different code. One through clever timing and use of cpu cycles (Multithread) one through actually executing the code at the same time (Multicore). Multithreading has been around for ages. Don't know how long exactly, but I think it should be long enough for the first engine of DCS to take advantage of it.

While I get where you're coming from, and I myself also am eager for every uppdate I can get my hands on, I think there is no such update needed yet. The Apache is due to release in less than two months, and this sort of list imo makes more sense as a quarterly update. And in that sense there are other modules I'd rather see such an update for :). If the Apache is postponed again however another list is definitley needed.

We Need a New RAM Management for the Game Engine!
Cathnan replied to _UnknownCheater_'s topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS uses a ton of RAM, but saying it loads the full map into it makes no sense at all. Was flying over Syria yesterday withoug pagefile being used and DCS consuming a little over 11GB. IIRC Syria is more than 20GB. I had 11GB of available RAM left. Sure it was a simple mission. This is just to say that DCS doesn't load all of the map into RAM. And there is no reason to do it as well. -
So what you're saying is you don't expect much of a performance increase, but you expect a performance increase . Jokes aside, I think you're right. My uneducated guess is, I expect Multicore/Vulcan to increase performance in terms of fps by < 30%. Which in VR especially can be the difference between pleasantly playable and motion sickness. My big hope is that it enables larger scale missions and better AI because physics calcualtions can be spread out as well as pathfinding and decision making.

Nvidia upgraded the DSR feature with an AI downsampler, that promises much better performance than the old version of this tech. So I thought, let's see if this squeezes a few more frames out of my computer if I trade in MSAA for it. I enabled the option in the driver and set the new resolution in DCS. The problem is, DCS does apply the higher resolution, but the image isn't downsampled to the resolution of my screen, so that only the part of the image that does fit on my screen is shown. In the Main menu the right sidebar get's completely cut off, as well as parts below the module bar. Has anyone else succeded in enabeling DSR?

Hey ED, could we possibly have the full flight manual please?
Cathnan replied to Rogue Trooper's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Not necessarily the full flight manual, but some advice on how to use the weapons the CCIP doesn't work for would be nice I can't aim bombs and most rockets to safe my life -
Mere speculation, but I would bet it has to do with the new Voip system. You can add radios to planes that don't actually have them to make communication within your flight easier. Like you can add an ARC210 to a FW190 A8.

Thank you, I'll check this out tomorrow

I did the same. Doesn't say much anyway. Getting it on the ship is one thing. Especially in DCS because of lack of fear of death and minor sidenotes like that. But getting it on the ship without endangering the plane, the ship and everyone on deck and yourself, everything while dealing with things you don't get in DCS like g-forces on your body is bound to make it much harder.

F/A-18C Hornet :: Raven One Campaign. The Immersive Experience!
Cathnan replied to cru's topic in F/A-18C Raven One Campaign
Awesome, enjoy, it's a great campaign. Did you also get the computer in the $1500? -
Wow, I'm far less optimistic than you. But even so with the ones I expect this year, Apache, BS3, Corsair, South Atlantic, F-15E, new FLIR, Multicore and possibly Vulkan, this year will be amazing.

Of course it takes time, and I know it's all in development. And you obviously can't conjur up work. But maybe a little more detailed info can be shared? Without naming dates or timeframes of course. But what are the items left for the next update. And what has been finished for it so far. Personally I'm most interested in the wands for the plane directors, and selectable spawning spots in the ME. The latter of which I don't know if it is actually planned but it would be such a quality of life improvement. Personally I'm more on the satisfied side of SC custemors. And again I know it takes time and is in developement. But can we at least get an update of what is still missing before the next features are added. I mean like the list for the Apache when it was postponed in december.

Future of DCS complex modules, thoughts and opinions
Cathnan replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS Core Wish List
That's a really hard guess. I think it's likely they will eventually do the F-104. I know I would love to see it and I think there are more who would do too. Also I can imagine the Tornado. One thing that would seem possible age wise but I can't judge because of possible confidentiality is the F-117. I'm not sure however if a stealth bomber would really have it's place as a player module in DCS. It would fit the high profile criteria tho. -
Sounds like it's more of a core issue within DCS. Easy comms are nice to start out, but actually I'm passed them . Well guess I won't have proper AI comms in Helos for a while.

It does show up in VAICOM and it works at the beginning. It's only after a while when everything stops working. Haven't tried easy Comms yet, but I will later. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

Searching for proof of underperforming AN/APG-73 radar
Cathnan replied to GumidekCZ's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
From my admittedly limited understanding, yes. I didn't read that far back, so apologies if I'm saying something you know already. The doppler radars are filtering signals based on their closing speed. With this ground clutter is removed. So if the closing speed of a return is in a certain area (in DCS F18 this currently seems to be +-100knots, no idea if this is accurate, have no hints either way) it get's filtered out as ground clutter, at least in a lock down configuration. -
No, the only shots fired came from me. But I also dipped my toes into sling loading. For that i made a simple mission. Four cargo units and my Hind were all that was on the map and the radios still failed after a while.
-
I tried both. Including the additional binds on my HOTAS and Vaicom. Nothing works at that stage. For Vaicom I also reset it's lua.
-
I've been flying the Hind today (singleplayer) and when I wanted to contact ATC for landing the comms menu didn't show up. No matter what combination I tried it simply didn't react. It worked just fine on take off. I'm posting here and not in bugs because I have no idea what specifically triggers this, so I can't recreate it for a track replay. All I know is it happens even on shorter missions of less than 30 minutes. I tripple checked my bindings and even did a repair of DCS but it didn't help. Does this happen to anyone else?

Funnily enough they did exactly that after they had to delay the first time. Everyone who bought it standalone without ed miles got iirc 8000 ed miles Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I get what you mean, but I guess it's not feasible because people are people. Not matter what the communication is, there will be people who complain because X, y, z is missing and a,b,c is bugged. And they will be loud. Loud enough for it not being worth it. And iirc quite a while back Wags gave an interview in which he explained how EA came to be. It was basically the reasoning behind your demo idea. People were bugging them because they wanted to have it, no matter the state it's in. So in a way we do have the demos you are taking about. Just in a more polished way than you are talking about. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

The way I see it, if the team isn't satisfied with where the apache is for release, I'd most likely not be satisfied either. So yeah, I'm a bit bummed, but I still rather have it this way than getting it and being annoyed for things not being where they're supposed to be. One thing I haven't found the answer to anywhere else and I'm wondering especially in when it comes to the apache. Are there news on the new FLIR technology? I know it's more difficult than simply adding it to the modules because every single unit in dcs has to be touched, but will the apache come with it's module part of this tech?
