can not reproduce TGP not targeting correctly
Cathnan replied to Hammer1-1's topic in Bugs and Problems
Have you switched to area track at that point? I was always wondering if that was intended or not. If I don't have the tpod in area or pointtrack it's usually only a matter of seconds until it drifts away. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk -
can not reproduce Waypoint Designate isn’t working in multi and single
Cathnan replied to Punisher74's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just remembered, that it works very similare to this for me. When I designate a target with Waypoint designate, the TPOD slews there and everything works just fine. Usually I then switch to point track or simply designate from the tpod again, no problem. But if I make the SA page soi I can't undesignate. Have to switch to the TPOD to undesignate, then the rest works fine. Didn't report it because I wasn't sure if it's a bug and it was easy enough to go around. Don't think it's supposed to be like this tho. Everytime I encounter this it looks exactly like in the video. -

Only played SP today but haven't had an issue. Worked for me as advertised. Since this will inevitably be asked by a mod sooner rather than later anyway, do you have a trackfile? -
I agree. While I don't mind the choices of maps, I also don't really understand them. The channel with the maps we currently have does make sense imo. And in terms of quality I think it's way ahead of normandy. But the extension of normandy will likely make the channel obsolete. Especially if Ugra gives the entire map a makeover in syria quality. I have no doubt Afghanistan will be an excellent and interesting map. But huge parts of it will be another desert. That's why I'm very much looking forward to the south atlantic map. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed for a iron curtain and vietnam map at some point.

I think if the F16 launch taught us one thing, then that ED is far better of postponing once more if need be. The reputation of not keeping deadlines is already there anyway (not saying I hold a grudge against them), and at least parts of the community don't forget and - which is the problem imo - don't forgive a botched launch. Can't remember a single thread about EA in which the F16 wasn't brought up as the sole reason not to pre-order. Despite ED having launched several modules since, which I haven't heard complaints about. I mean more than the complaints you hear about any module. A botched launch apparently burns itself in the collective memory and you never hear the end of it. A succsessful one, even if postponed, seems to go more or less unnoticed in the long run. I know what I would choose.

Can confim. Doesn't work for me too exclusivley in the Viggen. What I also noticed in the Vaicom Config tool the Viggen doesn't get recognized. It's just the default display on the PTT page as if no aircraft is loaded. The Hornet get's recognized, displayed and works just fine.

One way to at least roughly sort them would be by folder where they're stored. Like one bookmark the default DCS Kneeboards, one for pages stored in the mission, and then for every additional Folder that contains kneeboard pages an additional bookmark. That should be rather easy to implement and would probably meet the needs of most people although not being as flexible as one would wish. But certainly better than slapping them all together and having to go through all for the info you need.

Changes to overload wingbreak mechanic in Beta 2.7.7.15038
Cathnan replied to Preendog's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
What I'm wondering, is it really unrealistic to snap them wings off when you pull the paddle with the stick in neutral and then fully pull it back immediately? That's what it seems like Gripes has done in the video he posted. My thinking is, that most likely creates peak G of way beyond 14. I used the paddle with full stick aft recently too. My wings stayed where they were supposed to be. But I didn't go from 0 to 100 in an instant on the stick. -
So what would be the best case scenario for the apache? CPG as primary slot and a helper button or command for the AI to start up the aircraft?
-
Sout Atlantic Map and then Apache and the new FLIR system it supposedly comes with. After that I'm mostly excited for any and all core game improvments and hoping for proper radar reflection of helos

I get where you're comming from. And I agree with you that ultimately these community projects should not be necessary because they are part of the core game. But as things stand, they are not part of it. And considering the development time I have observed in my 1.5 years of actively playing and enjoying DCS, it will easily be another several years until DCS with core functionality comes even close to offerig the features the community projects offer today. Personally I mainly use SRS and Overlord Bot (the later if available on the server). And since you said you never used any of these projects, using SRS is as simple as installing any other windows program, choosing your settings and starting it when you start dcs. And if I didn't know better I could easily mistake it for professional software. From a user perspective it's the same for overlordbot. The experiences these projects offer are so good, that I can see only a tiny fraction -if any- of the community switching to built in VoIP any time soon. I for one sure won't as long as something like Overlord Bot isn't available. That is something that can be fixed if ED develops a possibility to assign voice Chat slots to Bots and LotATC users. That way the community can use the Built in Voice Chat without loosing functionality currently provided by third party projects. In the meantime ED can built their own Overlord Bot and LotATC. You could consider that a stop gap solution on ED's side until it won't be necessary anymore. I think the most likely outcome if ED doesn't provide this possibility is, that no one will switch to built in Voice Chat and it'll burn itself in the communities memory as a sub par experience you don't have to bother with. Again this is not to say the community projects won't be replaced by built in features at some point. But realistically these features won't be available for several more years. And the community won't just sit and wait without the features if they're available outside of built in Voice Chat.

Can confirm. It works. I flipped a switch on manual cold start that wasn't meant to be flipped. This can be closed. Thank you.

I took out the Mig 21 after a while today, to take it for a spin. Couldn't properly use it because the Fixed Net and Pipper where impossible to turn on with a cold start. Couldn't turn it no neither with a manual cold start nor the auto cold start. With a hot start it works as intended. Track of the auto cold start attached. Mig21_Hud doesnt show.trk

Since ED has to sell modules to survive there for sure will be one. But man would I love it if there was only one word appearing from the darkness "CORE". But since that won't happen and a Super Hornet as well as a Raptor seems unrealistic for me I'm almost certain it'll be a full fidelity Mig 29A or early SU27. Wouldn't mind a Starfighter either tho

DCS: F/A-18C Features Roadmap for Early Access
Cathnan replied to Kate Perederko's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I guess a lot of the frustration comes from not understanding how priorities are set. For me that's the case at least. For example I don't understand why the now rather limited time of the remaining hornet devs is used to create the ACLS. Yes it would be nice to have, but in the bigger picture it's a rather secondary feature of the hornet. But It's being developed while primary features are still bugged. Some to a degree that makes them unusable (looking at you ground mapping radar). It would be nice to know how these things get their priority. I don't want to pretend that I know how software development works, but especially those radar bugs take some of the joy out of the hornet for me. And therefore i'd love to see a roadmap of the bug fixes, or at least get an update which point it is on the development list. I'm not saying you're not working on the bugfixes. I know you do. But for some major bugs it feels like they are here to stay. Which is not exactly great. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk -
correct as is Enemy missiles in flight on TWS
Cathnan replied to Eagle7907's topic in Bugs and Problems
I'm not really familiar with what a radar can detect and what not. But those missiles seem to be 10 to 15 miles out. With most fighters not being detectable much beyond 40 miles at that aspect, is it plausible for missiles at that distance to be detected? That's an honest question because I have no clue. Just feels a bit odd considering how much bigger a plane is. -
I don't think they'd dare to remove this feature. Considering there are people who spend thousands if not tens of thousands (if not in money then in workhours) in their simpits. Imo this will probably require changes in the software (like DCS Bios) but will continue existing. And I as well can't think of a reason to remove this funcionality. AFAIK breaking this functionality was the reason they rolled back the IC changes a few weeks a ago so quickly.
-
You can only lock them if they are very fast (120knots +) at the moment. A 120 launched in their direction will happily take them out tho.
-
I agree, definitley do what works for you. I also very recently did my first successfull plug in the tomcat, and focusing on the tanker was everything but easy. Because the KC135 isn't big enough. I often found it completely blocked by the by the cockpit frame. And that's the same as with the basket. Hard to base your movements on something you can't see. Ultimately I found a path the made focusing on the tanker work in the tomcat (adjusting curves helped here as well).
-
Locking helos is a problem of the hornet radar - and has been for a while now. In the rise of the persian lion campaign there are helos going very fast only for the sake of being lockable. don't quote me on that but the magic number is in the 120kts range iirc. AIM-120s indeed have no problem finding helos and never had.
-
I've learned it first in the Hornet using the tanker as reference. And I must say, I'm glad I learned it that way. I got the Harrier during the sale right now, and I'd say it took me about 30 attempts to plug. Being used to have the tanker as reference helped me here for sure because in the Harrier the basket is outside of peripheral vision while you're plugged. Of course always do what works for you. Imo this is just something to think about while teaching someone. They may want to learn a module later in which you can't see the basket.

Luckily never had that happen to me . But that sounds like it wasn't anyones idea but a bug. The catapult is not a place to be with engines cold.

Allow Updates in the background, While the game runs..
Cathnan replied to StevanJ's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Absolutely agree. Especially since they're not just your average 50MB updates. They sometimes take hours to download even on a decent connection. And it shouldn't be that much of a performance impact if the download runs in background. At least for single player Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk -
By coincidence I head thos spots blocked at first. That only made the E-2D and S-3B not appear at all.
-
Since ED does some quality of live updates currenty, please let us choose the spot the planes spawn on carrier decks. I'm sitting at this very moment in my tomcat cockpit waiting for INS to allign while blocking an E-2D ready for take off.
