  1. I'll bet it did the first time you attempted it though.
  2. Yeah, but given that the graphics card alone cost me more than the latest console, I didn't mind paying Chillblast a little premium to do it all properly rather than risk my fat man hands breaking bits. They ended up going through four faulty 680s so it was probably a wise decision. I will certainly do it all myself next time.
  3. Not a cheap hobby. I paid a fortune for mine, I'm thinking I'll actually have a go at building one when it needs replacing. I wanted to build my current one last year but just didn't have the knowledge or confidence given the cost of the components I chose.
  4. Ironically the Jaguar was designed to be a trainer, it was far too complex an aircraft however and it became what it was. Look I'm with you, I'd love to see a Jaguar in DCS: World, I'd love a Tornado and Harrier just as much. But nobody has said we wont get them? This is just the start of what is to come and we need to demonstrate a bit of patience. The developers have given the reasons for starting with a trainer like the Hawk, that is almost ready and no doubt they learned a lot from its development which will go into future products to make them even better. The Eurofighter Typhoon is coming after the Hawk, we can't really complain about that now can we. As for the others, well other people would have complained just as much about the Colt no doubt. And if the owners of the Skyraiders don't want to be involved in the industry it sidelines that aircraft in favor of others that give the developers more access. We will see such aircraft in good time anyway, the P-47 for example which is already in development.
  5. Awesome set up SuperKungFu!! Dare I ask how much excluding the monitors and peripherals etc? As for buying current hardware, well it's a never ending battle. You think you'll wait for the next one, then you tell your self the next next one will be even better still lol. I have a superclocked GTX680 and it is still serving me well. I'll upgrade when the rift arrives if need be, I don't need to otherwise. Go for it and make yourself an awesome set up now, you'll spend your life waiting otherwise ;)
  6. Yeah that is true once you've seen them, they can even become an annoyance which is why I mentioned the disable option. But I always watch them at least once. If you make it good enough that is all it would require to prompt more interest. GA is the man of course, but people need to find his videos.
  7. Maybe even a well filmed short intro video to DCS World would work (something that can be disabled in the options perhaps) I have downloaded free games in the past, played them for 5 mins and never tried them again. The SU25 doesn't capture the feeling of DCS World really. But if new people opening it up were subjected to an exciting video showing just what the higher end modules are capable of it may help suck them in a little more. I'm talking lots of A-10c Cannon bursts, F-15s in tight dog fights with the SU-27, The P51 generally being awesome and the Huey thudding along at low altitude strafing targets.... A good intro works wonders, I can still remember the first time I fired up Starlancer on the Dreamcast... or even earlier, Earthseige 2 on the Pc as a very young lad! I think I know just the man to make it as well...
  8. I'm not sure if that first bit was aimed at me, but I hope I didn't whine about anything, I just disagreed and gave an alternative opinion. A lot of the developers are gamers and flight sim fans themselves, they are aware of what people want and don't want. But that is my point, there are a lot of assumptions here about exactly what that is. Whilst I can appreciate not everybody feels the same way, some of us, me included are really looking forward to advanced simulations of more basic aircraft. DCS: World for me isn't just about the combat, I love just sitting in these things and learning the systems and how to fly them properly. Trainers are great for this and will no doubt help me and others learn to fly and fight better in the more advanced stuff that will no doubt be heading our way soon. I can't wait for the F-18, but I'm looking forward to things like the Hawk just as much. I don't think anybody has been saying everything is great, that just isn't fair on people like me who are genuinely interested in the aircraft that are being developed. If a developer chooses to make an aircraft I don't have any interest in, I won't criticize them, I'll just wish them the best of luck and buy from a different developer. There are all sorts of factors we just don't know about behind the scenes, licensing etc that also effects the choice of which aircraft to model. The open nature of DCS: World means it is almost impossible for the developers to please everybody, your time to be excited will no doubt be just around the corner as the trainers are finished up and the Typhoons and Hornets start appearing. Just give them a little time to make mistakes and learn of the slightly easier stuff first so that those awesome machines can be the best simulations they possibly can be. I'm not going to give you the same kind of time as I did OutOnTheOp above, he was polite but you're coming across as an aggressive hypocrite imo. You say this is a discussion, well I gave you my opinion which just happens to differ to yours. No you don't need the training aircraft to jump right into a game and blow stuff up, but some of us would like the added experience. And more than that, just the ability to fly the aircraft we see in our skies and dream about having the chance to fly one day. I think they will all come together to make DCS world better. You don't agree and that is fine. I'll leave you to your discussion.... all the best.
  9. I couldn't agree less with the opening post. I am delighted that we will get getting advanced simulations of aircraft such as the Hawk and Tucano. Some people seem to think they are owed the aircraft they want to have for whatever reason, well the devs can make whatever they wish to make and whatever aircraft capture their enthusiasm. Ultimately this is what will lead to top quality products. I'm just happy we are getting anything extra outside of ED at this kind of level. Third parties are still quite new to DCS world so it does make sense to start with such aircraft and learn the basics before moving on to more advanced aircraft with far more detailed systems and flight characteristics etc. Not to mention, there is another aspect to Combat and that is training. In fact that is the most important aspect, so if we end up with a Combat sim that can start you off at the bottom (In a tutor for example) And move you up through the ranks (Tucano >> Hawk >> Typhoon etc) learning basic flight and then more advanced stuff and weapons etc, well in my opinion that would be amazing!!! I can see why people would like to skip all of that and have the most advanced military aircraft right now, but you wouldn't have had them anyway. It isn't fair to suggest third party developers are somehow wasting their time. For those of us that want a little more than just to jump right into the cockpit of the latest fighters they are actually providing a pretty welcome service and I wish them all well. ED is making the F-18 as we speak. Ultimately you don't have to buy the modules that don't interest you, just don't assume all of us feel the same way, I think DCS: World can become so much more than it is now and this is just the start... I can't wait to tear up the skies in my Hawk. :pilotfly:
  10. I tend to agree with this, I have the P51, I paid full price for it but I've had my monies worth and wouldn't be too upset if they offered it up for free. The SU-25 doesn't particularly show the sim off to its potential, the Mustang however would. Maybe a WW2 bird wouldn't be very representative of DCS: World though. Perhaps a limited time demo of the A-10c would be a better option along side the TF-51...
  11. I agree, I have been saying this since the rumors about it first surfaced...
  12. I'd love an F4, but the poll is unfair in its descriptions. I'm very much looking forward to training aircraft such as the Hawk and Tucano down the line. There is plenty of room under the DCS: World roof for a whole variety of different types. Even as a fast jet fan myself I'd love to see aircraft such as the C-17 and B1B created also...
  13. I hope they do a decent job of the port this time!
  14. I don't know, Alien Isolation was a pretty exciting announcement. The rift with that will no doubt be an experience like no other. It will be the closest thing yet to actually being in a horror movie. That said I would rather be reading about DCS of course...
  15. Cooooooool!! More money to spend. The cockpit looks great!
  16. You probably made the right decision, I have no experience with the X55 but I didn't much care for my X52 pro while I had it.
  17. I'm happy they got out okay and were picked up by their own people!
  18. One for you Russian folk... T-50 damaged beyond repair it seems. http://fotografersha.livejournal.com/539678.html
  19. This is very true, that is what I meant by maybe the projects will be more closely related now. I do hope it is all kept under one roof however.. DCS: World.
  20. Well maybe, but maybe not... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123426 We'll see how that one progresses but the future looks bright for WW2 fans, maybe those two projects will be more related now. Either way I'm happy they are happening.
  21. I think ED themselves would have a lot of support if they ever needed it. This one probably isn't ideal for them but I suspect it will end well now... I would actually up my pledge now ED is in command if they required it.
  22. Pilot Killed in Eurofighter Typhoon crash. Rip.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-27768001
  23. That's a great shot! Rain on the canopy would add so much atmosphere to help immerse us all into the game more imo. I'd love to see it happen.
  24. I'm patiently waiting with you..
  25. I didn't say it was. My point was it is ready and the people who have been lucky enough to try it have spoken very highly of it.. There are other companies out there putting in the hard work.
