The "this must be new" thread
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to 666th_birdy's topic in Screenshots and Videos
aimmaverick - hey that basketball court is from my Caucasus Tour! Nice to see someone has actually flown it and noticed the fun places. 666th_Birdy - I'd always thought it was an error by the Devs putting that soccer field right next to the docks, until I found a picture of it in real life. I wonder how many balls they lose in the water per game? Tuapse soccer field -

And Best Picture Goes Go...
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to warthogmadman987's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Great to hear you did so well - winning the key Best Picture. Also getting the public's choice prize, glad I voted and got my friends to vote too. -
Maybe they have 2 Mods? One based on F-15 (the in cockpit views you have seen) and one based on Su-33 for the tailhook. I have seen many posts in the Forums where folks have assumed something is possible because they saw it in a movie. Many times it is just clever editing of a flyable Mod plus footage of an AI aircraft. Much of what Movie makers do is "smoke and mirrors" to make us think the impossible is possible. Extreme example - Bill et John 2. They used blue screen techniques to add heat blur to the A-10 (insane amount of work for a few seconds of action).

After you finish a mission in a campaign you have to save your progress by clicking the debriefing button and then, while looking at the debriefing screen, click (top left) "file" then "save". Don't confuse this type of saving with "save states" (ie the save button on the window you get after quitting, I have never had that type of save work, most folks haven't it seems). But anyway, you are getting frustrated with the whole thing and just want to fly and get further on in the campaign.... There are possible workarounds, so lets get into those. You can declassify the campaign in the Mission editor and fly the campaign missions in any order you want (plus change skins, weapon loadout, etc). I use this method all the time to cherry pick the fun missions in a campaign and miss out the dull ones. Go into Mission Editor, upper left of screen click on the open button, bottom right TYPE OF FILE select CAMPAIGN, navigate the folder structure to the campaign you want and select it. Bottom right click on MAP. Now you will see the 1st mission of your campaign. Many missions and campaigns are classified with a password so that they cannot be easily/accidentally changed. The stock missions and campaigns that come with Lockon use the password EAGLE. Top left click on EDIT, then DECLASSIFY, enter the password EAGLE. Now all the missions in the campaign should appear on the right hand side. Select the mission you want and you can select your aircraft, select PAYLOAD and pick different weapons/fuel load/skin. If you have downloaded any of the excellent missions/campaigns designed by the Lockon community, then some may be classified. Either the briefing notes or the readme file may tell you the password. Some may not. If not, and you really want to change from what the campaign designer wanted then you can "cheat" by overwriting the password with your own. Use keystrokes rather than menu to do this. Press "ctrl + left shift + C" then type in a password e.g. 1234. Now press "ctrl + left shift + D" and enter your password e.g. 1234 Secondly, there is a really useful utility that will extract missions from a campaign (link below) so you can fly them as individual missions. No real difference from flying them in the campaign.... http://www.checksix-fr.com/bibliotheque/index.php?page=detail&ID=2739 Hope this helps.........

BIg Problem with FC...need help, plz
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to PB0_Mighty-8's topic in Bugs and Problems
I use a media player called VLC, it seems to play just about anything. Give it a try, its a free download. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Hopefully with VLC, you won't be so worried about losing that codec pack. -
The Alas Rojas site I mentioned in the previous thread does contain a C-130 Spanish skin. Did you try it? My Spanish is rubbish, but the readme file for the F-4 Spanish skin in that skin pack seems to say it replaces the Turkish F-4, and the Leo-2 tank skin replaces the German Leo-2 skin. Maybe the skin designer used a similar method of replacing some other country for the C-130? Did you try every possible countries C-130? I'm sure I did get this to work in the past on v1.02 but removed it again as the C-130 skin was so-so quality, I seem to recall the Leo-2 skin was nice. I can't try it again at the moment as my gaming PC has died. Can anyone else help rattler with this?

P-700 anti-ship cruise missile video.
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to DPS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Have you had a go at knocking down Kitchen's air-to-air? Probably unrealistic but I recall doing it occasionally in v1.02, dunno if you still can in v1.12a. I had set up a little mission where I was flying an Su-27 on CAP over a naval group with AWACS help. -

Good luck - you deserve it this time for sure ! -
http://www.alasrojas.com/Descarga/lomac/ficheros.htm Try the "pack de mikoyan" at the top of this page on the Alas Rojas site, I think it has a Spanish Hercules contained within it. I vaguely remember seeing a post a couple of years ago(?) of an RAF Hercules skin, but have no idea where. Anyone else recall more details? Yes - I have, link below. http://www.airwarfare.com/Sims/lomac/lomac_skins.htm

Each persons PC is different. Each person prefers different aircraft, type of mission (air to air, air to ground). Higher FPS at 15,000 metres compared to 15 metres. Each person is happy with different eye-candy. There are some tweaks for better FPS but they just set a bunch of options lower, so maybe better is to take a couple of hours and experiment yourself. You can use other persons settings as a starting point, but what I am happy to fly with, you may hate. Make notes of what you change and what effect it has on your FPS. Use a standard mission (maybe one of the ones from the startup menu?) to see how it looks after each change. I actually set shadows to one less than maximum, not the lowest. As for images - Sorry, my Gaming PC has died :( Starting to suffer from Lockon withdrawal symptoms.....

Su-33 & Kh-41 Anti-Shipping Tutorial
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to DPS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Nicely done ending with the Tico and the helo's. Smoke on the Water? LOL!! Reminded me of being at school. I was suitably soothed by the voiceover though..... -
Well, you could switch mirrors off in the options, you dont need them 99% of the time. Remember that during the game if you need them you can always press N or M and they will appear for as long as you hold the N or M. Heat Blur - looks nice when you make movies, but do you really need it? Reflections - again a matter of personal taste, I manage without. Civ traffic - do you need this? It is a lot of trucks, trains etc running when you add up the whole map, but so sparce where you are that you see scarcely any. Shadows - I manage fine with this set to one less than maximum. I run low water with a mod I found somewhere (sorry I cant recall where) that makes it look a little better. As i rarely fly over the sea low enough for it to make a difference, I dont miss the better looking water. My advice is to try some AA and AF and see if it actually affects your FPS at all. Lockon is CPU limited once you have a half decent Graphics card.

Sorry no. The changes for FC apparently removed the code that enabled that v1.02 Instructor/Student Mod to work.

As promised: Black Shark Promo video here!
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But Glowing Amraam didn't make MaximumG, it was bSr.LOCsta. I am guessing by this statement that you have little or no experience of Software development. The delays experienced in the releases of BlackShark and their other products are typical of the industry. Eagle Dynamics seem to take pride in their work and it is better they take some time to get it right than release it too early. As for release dates they have been burned by harsh critisism on the Forums when they missed promised dates, so I dont blame them for keeping quiet. Unlike many companies their development staff visit these forums to help with questions and problems, I dont know of that many software companies that do that. Or maybe you are an accountant ? Well, the source of the money is the Russian publishers who commissioned them to develop the Black Shark helo add-on. They are the ones taking a financial risk, but of course if it sells lots of copies in Russia, then the publishers will reap the rewards. That's how business works. As for other sources of revenue, who knows what other projects they are doing? That would be commercially sensitive information that no Company tells to any Tom, Dick or Harry in the street and frankly is none of our business. -

I managed to find a 1:300,000 scale tourist road map that is quite detailed in a specialist map shop in London. It is actually by a french publisher. Institut Geographique National Map 3615 IGN Edition 1 copyright IGN Paris 1997 It has a barcode on it that might help you find it, 3 282118 605316 -
I am a liitle confuse here, can help me?
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to Red Hammer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Imagine it is a foggy night and you are driving and there is a dead dog in the road. On a normal night, your car lights can see the dead dog at a long distance and you can avoid it. On a foggy night you cannot see as far with your car lights. Your radar is the car lights and ECM is the fog. Suppose the enemy is using ECM against you, it means that your radar is powerful enough to "burn-through" the effects at 25km or less and see the target. Sometimes your own plane has ECM and you can use it against the enemy aircraft (and SAM/AAA systems). -
Bill & John - Ep II : Danger Attacks at Dawn
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to SebTom's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Cheers Seb! I already had Episode 1 1/2 but good to have it with the subtitles embedded. Yeah, my first guess was that it was a tribute to the HAL 9000 computer in 2001:A Space Odyssey. Terminator is also a good possibility. What other film references and influences do folks think they have spotted? "HI THERE!" on the Instructors Mk-84 bomb (tribute to the film Dr Strangelove - the nuke bomb that Slim Pickens rides has "Hi There!" written on it). Maverick missile speeding through the town, am I the only one who was thinking ACME rocket powered Wil E. Coyote from the RoadRunner cartoon? Other nice touches that I liked.... The little wisp of smoke from the tail before the Mav takes off. The traffic lights (No right turn on red in France). The flashing rear (and front) turn indicator lights on the truck. The engine exhaust from the truck. Red Master Caution light and other warning lights flashing inside the Instructors F-5 cockpit after he is hit. Explosion rocks the General's Humvee. Weather vane spins. Watch the explosion in slow-motion to see the cows spin as they fly through the air - brilliant! -

Bill & John - Ep II : Danger Attacks at Dawn
Brit_Radar_Dude replied to SebTom's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Watching this took me back to the early Lockon days when the Forums were awash with posts about some funny French Lockon movie called Bill and John being entered into a Machinima 2005 Awards competition. I was totally confused. What the %$£@ is machinima? How could somone make a funny Lockon movie? Finally I found the Machinima Awards 2005 site, followed the link to Bill et John I and the Bill et John II trailer. Amazing stuff !! Side splittingly funny. The same machinima awards site also led me to Red vs Blue which is pretty d@mn funny as well. I waited and waited for the full Bill et John II to come out and eventually assumed that the makers had moved on to other things. After all, not everyone has the same Lockon addiction as I have, folks come and go. Now it is obvious why it has taken the best part of 2 years for Episode II to be released. I laughed till tears ran down my face. Even now I am E-mailing my buddies to tell them to watch this. If this doesn't win awards at Machinima2006, there is no justice.....
